Ok we're going for it..but we need help Hey everyone so tomorrow I'm getting Brandy fixed.... This is the first time I have a dog this little fixed... I had a pit and it was different because he was big.. can anyone help with advise for preping for it and after it.. I know she's going to be in a econe.. but I forgot for how long.. and the rules.. HELP:cry8: My nerves are getting the best of me that I feel like to cancel.. Ok let me start again.. I need help with preping for her.. what are the steps I should do.. I gave her a good bath today and cleaned her bed with clorox and let it air out.. and cleaned with water and baby soap. Cleaned her linen.. brushed her teeth.. Should I feed her the in the morning? how long will she be down and out? will she be in lots of pain? if so can I give her anything for it? and if so what? what's the best care for the wound? and will the econe hurt her? I'm so lost I just want the best for my baby.. Again. please help |
The vet should go over everything with you, Don't worry she will be fine! Should I feed her the in the morning? No the night before take her food and water up at 8pm how long will she be down and out? Depends on her, they are usually down that day and sometimes the next- she might just be sleepy will she be in lots of pain? if so can I give her anything for it? and if so what? They should give you pain meds, if not ask for them what's the best care for the wound? Keep it clean and dry- do not let her lick and will the econe hurt her? No they have softer ones, you can also use a human baby onesie- |

She was spayed around 10am and I picked her up about 4pm. She was obviously sore and groggy that day and the next and she slept alot. The vet gave her pain medicine to take home (and I also bought extra because ZoE was spayed prior to a holiday weekend & vet's office would be closed). Also ask one of the techs if they can call you when she is done, that way you wont have to stress all day!! Just keep your mind busy and it will be over before you know it! |
Your vet should give pre and post-op instructions. You might want to give them a call they should be able to tell you what you need to do. Usually there is no food after a certain time the night before surgery. The should should give you medication to give her for the pain and give you instructions on how to care for her while she heals. |
here you go I got this from when I got Prada spayed.. I removed Prada's collar and put an onesie on her, she hates the collar.. then again you can call your vet if you have questions.. 1. All adult animals must have food withdrawn the night before surgery at 12:00 midnight. Pets must be kept indoors or confined. Any pet that remained outside all night without being confined will not be admitted for surgery. Animals 4 months or younger may have food until 6:00 AM the morning of surgery. All animals can continue to have water. 1. We recommend these items for your pet after surgery: Elizabethan Collars $5-6 - This will prevent your pet from reaching its stitches which can open or become infected. Dust Free Litter (for cats) - Regular cat litter can irritate or infect the incision area. (Yesterday’s News is available at the clinic $6 + tax) Relief Spray (optional) $10 - To relieve itching and discomfort of the shaved surgical area and stitches. It is applied ONLY to the shaved area, NOT the incision. Pain medication for home use – Given by mouth for 3 to 5 days after surgery to relieve surgical discomfort. Dogs $20, cats $10, Antibiotics are to be given by mouth as indicated by the Vet. |
You need to ask your vet about feeding before the surgery because I believe I wasnt able to feed mine after midnight the night before. I like baby onsies better than the cones |
How old is she? The vet should have told you no eating past a certain time. The incision needs to stay clean and dry and no licking it. Be careful with running and jumping because that can tear stitches and rip the incision. They should give you pain meds and tell what to do and what not to do. I think one of the most important things to get is the blood work before they put her under and spay her. |

Absolutely no food or water after midnight. I'll keep your lil girl in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow. As suggested, have them call you when she wakes up, so you won't worry any longer than necessary. They'll tell you when you can come pick her up. Don't let her try to run or jump. Not that she will want to, but you never know what they'll try to do. She will be uncomfortable and have some pain that night and the next day. Some drs give pain pills to take home. I slept on the floor with my lil girl that night so that I would know that she was alright. She probably won't want to eat that night, but the next morning she will be hungry for a little food. You will want to make water available, so she can get a little drink that night if she wants. In a few days time, you'll never know! She will be just fine!:) |

thank you all.. Okay the scoop is I called the vet.. their is to be no eating or drinking after midnight tonight.. the med will be avalible and up keep.. keep beding and lining clean, no licking the wound.. everything you guys said.. oh by the way how does the onesie work with furbabies.. what happens if she wets it? I mean I'll change her but will a little wet be ok if she has an accident? |

I also used a doggy diaper with Prada when I had to go out, the onesie is there for her not to lick her stiches. hugs, |
thanks again... I may just go with the onesies.. I know at night she will need it because she sleeps in a pen.. I may open up my sons playpen for a few days to have her near... I'm so worried.. but at ease at the same time.. how long will it take for the stiches to come out? |
