I took Cali to a groomer a couple times and said never again. I took her I in the early am (they wanted her ther by 8:00 am) and she was not done until around 5:00pm. She is so easy to groom. She would be exhausted and almost trembling she was so tired. I now take to a lady who shows Yorkies - takes her about 45 minutes to 60 minutes all totaled and I sit right there and read. Mostly I can't seem to be able to do the nails! Who puts the pups through that? |

Sounds like your groomer is great! The previous groomer was a place of chaos- constant barking etc. calinis accustomed to a pretty calm environment and I think all the noise was hard for her - plus she is a service dog and thinks she is always "on duty" when she hears any loud noises. She just could not seem to be able to settle down. Your place sounds like the ideal! |

Many of the bigger grooming places just stuff your pup in a cage for the day. I don't want my baby fit in. I don't like sitting waiting for them to do my hair and I sure don't want Gracie sitting in a cage terrified for the day. I suppose if you know the people and you know your dogs are being well treated and not stuck in a kennel all day it would be another thing. There is just too much of an opportunity for something to go wrong in a big grooming salon. Dog's being left in cages with the blow dryer on is one of the things that really bothers me. Nobody's is cheking the temp of that drier or watching the time while that poor pup is being held captive. If they are too busy to blow my dog's coat out they are too busy for me. The salon I use now is about four blocks from where I live and it is a very "exclusive" type of place. They don't take problem dogs and they won't do dogs that come in for a once a year shave down. I was nervous about calling them because I was afraid we might not be "accepted." The two that run it are experienced professionals that also do dog shows on weekends. I stayed with Gracie the first two times she went there but the last time I went home and got some other things done. She is comfortable there now. I sit there with her until they are ready for her and then they call me when she is done. Usually does not take much more than an hour. It's more expensive than the place I used to take her to but I know she is going to look like I want her to when she comes out and I know she is safe as well. |
groomers from hell! well I've heard so many stories from Pet Co that I would really be scared to take my fur baby I don't think so many people could be wrong though I'm just saying, and about you saying something amen sister you did the right thing shame on her!!! clearly you saw how hard she was twisting just reading your post brought tears to my eye's:( never feel bad for speaking up for a fellow yorkie:p |
I think you did the right thing. Your instincts told you something was not right and you spoke up about it. Good for you! Ringo and Lucy have a small scale groomer that comes to the house. They are always so happy to see her that I\'m hoping she is treating them very well. |
I am a huge animal lover along with my husban. We have our girl 2 guniae pigs and 2 fish tanks. I also do volunteer work. I would have reported her and filed a complaint with the humane society. The best advice I can give anyone because I have done this is use that handy little cell phone camera if you have video feature use that instead. This way you have proof of the incident. I had to do that with an employ at my kids school. It is really sad that people like this are out there working with kids and animals who are at their mercy. If you have away to post reviews on the Internet I would do that as well |
