Macy is the same way. We'll be outside for a while, she'll pee and then almost as soon as we come back in she goes again. I have found that putting up toddler gates helps. She would always go upstairs and pee in front of the bathroom, well I've blocked off the stairs, and that has helped, it allows me to watch her better, and she cant sneak off unnoticed. =P I dont know if you've tried it, but Nature's Miracle is amazing. I've tried other carpet cleaners, and none of them work as well as NM. So if you haven't I would stock up on some at PetSmart. =] |
Yorkies in particular are hard to train. We live in Ohio and when it got very cold, our little Dee Dee refused to go out. When it was nice she would. I miss her so much. I now have BJ and she was so tiny when we got her and it is winter in Ohio so I continued her on the Wee Wee Pads and she is so far doing fine with those. I do know they have a mind of their own and good luck if they are not in the mood. |
I got that book too and the best advice I took from it was to get my dogs on a feeding schedule. 8 am and 8:30 pm. I can set a clock to her bm's now. lol |

Prissy poos in the morning and then in the evening. I tried to feed her on a schedule but I worry that she isn't eating enough. But it hit me that no wonder she wasn't eating as much since I give her a bit of a treat every time she goes outside. I have noticed that with Blue Buffalo that they don't go right after eating, it takes longer to digest, I guess. She is actually doing pretty well with the training but I was worried that she needed to go to the door herself, so I will keep taking her to the door until she has been fully house trained... Thank you all for you help and helping me understand that I am being impatient. My son and his girlfriend came over a little while earlier and she was all over them. So I would hold her till she calmed down and then let them hold her..Still hyper but I think she will be just like a fine wine, she will get better with age. Hey, have I said I love this group of Yorkie lovers???? |
The best thing to cure the hyper excited puppy when people come over is to pre-warn them ... no touch no talk no eye contact, until she is calm. It's harder than it sounds. All our friends and relatives are ok, but "grandma" and my son make a HUGE fuss as soon as they walk in, and it just gets him totally wound up. I have talked to them but they just ignore me. :( |
We pee pad trained dickie, and i would say it took about 10 days. It was not easy, but he had very few accidents during that time. All i can say is that we were persistent with him. Every time he woke up, to the pee pad. Everytime he drank, to the pee pad. Every time we finished playing, to the pee pad. We basically sat there until he pee'd or pooped. The whole time we just said "pee pee, pee pee, pee pee"... It was tiresome to all involved, including dickie, but it paid off. He has gone on the pad ever since(although he always tries to get us to go look afterwards for approval, if we did not see). If i can offer any advice, it would be to be persistent and consistent. Patience helps a bunch too. He goes outside too, if we are on walks, but he has not had an accident in the house after the first week or so. Knock on wood... Good luck |
My Link is 6 months old and im and proud to say he hasn't had and accident in a few weeks now. He whines in the morning to go out...during the day if he wants out he will go sit at the door patiently if i don't see him sitting there he will come and give me a little whine and go back to the door and scratch it to let me know...I gotta go mommy. When he wants back in he scratches. Good luck and I hope he gets the hang of it soon! |
