So glad I'm the only one who got hurt. My DH never understood why I have a baby gate up in front of our tiny kitchen. Last night he realized why. I was cooking dinner, and managed to overheat the oil. I got a big splash of it all over my right hand and on the floor. Now my wrist and hand are burned fairly badly. Hurts like all kinds of get out. Had that gate been down, Lola would have been at my feet, just like always. She would have been slashed with boiling oil. Even as I was shouting, Lola was freaking out to get to me to see why mommy was crying. I was so happy she didn't get hurt, even though I did. Moral of the story: Baby gates! They save little lives from the dangers of tiny kitchens! (My kitchen is about the size of a closet) |
I'm so sorry you got burnt! That hurts real real bad, but like you said, I'm so glad Lola didn't get hurt. Smart thinking! I hope your hand heals soon. |
i hope you get better real fast! glad you had the gate up. |
Im sorry you got burnt but Im glad Lola was kept safe. Those type of burns really hurt Ive did it to myself so I know. I hope your hand heals and quits hurting. I like putting aloe vera gel on burns |
OMG, so sorry you got burned, so glad you baby was not there, I have many baby gates all over too... specially they only come in the kitchen when I let them.. feel better soon... |
Sorry you were hurt but commend you on being a responsible mommy |
sorry about your hand, burns are the worst, you might even want to see a doctor so it does not get infected. My kitchen is open to the whole house and would be almost impossible to gate and it is a concern when I am cookings, since i tend to drop things, like a knife! this makes me think that maybe when I am doing allot of cooking to tie her so she is out of reach |
Thanks you guys! I've always been a baby gate brigadier! I always wonder, what if I dropped that knife and one of the furkids were in here? OMG what if they sniffed in the oven??? I'd feel like the worst mommy ever. My mom taught me about gates, and I think they're the best for home pup/kid safety! |
DBlain you might wanna try an x-pen, or you can even extend several baby gates and put them together to make one big one. That way your pup can move around without being tied up. I also have a big crate I got for free from a friend that I put both of my small dogs in when I'm leaving or vacuuming. Keeps them safe and outta mischief. Lemme tell ya they are GOOD at shenanigans. |
I am so sorry about your burn. My grandma spilled oil on her feet a long time ago before I was even born and it was very bad she still has scars and gets pain in her feet off and on. I have taught Callie not to be under foot in the kitchen because I was scared of something getting spilled on her. |
I am so sorry you got burned. I know how bad that feels. But, like you said, at least your baby was at a safe distance. I got burned pretty good once when, after I'd just cleaned the range, my at-the-time DH came home and boiled something over. Without thinking how hot the heating element would still be immediately after shutting off the burner, I grabbed the thing with my right hand to remove it and clean up the mess. Immediately, I had the perfect imprint of the element on my palm. To add insult to injury, I had been making homemade doughnuts...cake and raised...all day and had the oil heating in the wok to fry the doughnuts in when this happened. I smeared my whole palm with my 'magic cure-all for burns' and wrapped my hand heavily in gauze and fried all the doughnuts with the hand. Next day when I removed the gauze, there was one tiny reddish spot at the base of my thumb. I do so very much hope you are better soon! {{Hugs}} I sent you a PM... |
Sorry about your burn and so glad that your baby wasn't in the kitchen. |
ouch but also have a baby gate so the dogs can not get to the kitchen Burns are so painful Hope you heal up real soon |
I'm sorry you got burned and hope it heals quickly and doesn't have any long term effects. Glad Lola was safe! |
So sorry!! That hurts horribly!!! And so very glad your baby is safe and sound! |
So sorry you got burnt. Burns are so painful. |
I'm so sorry you got burned. I'm a cook so it's an almost daily event but luckily nothing major (though the smallest ones can hurt like heck). If you can get to a doc, and should if it's blistered, there's a cream called silvadine (sp?) that works great. It soothes & heals amazingly. I hope it heals soon & there's little to no scarring. Glad the pup wasn't in there as well, you're a good mama to have the aforethought to protect your baby.:) |
Burns are ridiculously painful, I am so sorry! So glad your little one was not hurt. This is exactly why I have taught my dogs that they are not to be in the kitchen when someone is cooking. They still try but are quickly shooed away and are getting better at watching from the doorway. Everyone always laughs at that rule, but it's situations like this one that totally warrant it! Hope you heal up well, take care of yourself. |
ouch! sorry you are hurt and glad Lola is not! |
So sorry and hope you heal soon |
Thanks everyone. You guys are great! |
So sorry you were burned and I hope it heals well and quickly. Good mommy to keep your furbaby out of your little kitchen. I understand how scary it can be to have them underfoot. |
wow I hope you feel better soon! glad you used the gate... I use an xpen in the kitchen when its busy etc They are in the kitchen free when the kids are in school etc with a gate up,(they are 16 weeks) I can only keep track of one room to make sure there are no small toys etc on the floor lol I love gates!;) |
This is the reason my son won't let dogs in his kitchen when he is cooking. He made that edict when he got his current dog and I'll have to confess that since he told me what he had started with his Tex, I started trying to remember to keep Tibbe out when I am cooking. There is a lot of dangerous stuff going on in there with knives that could be dropped, any number of hot liquids that could get spilled on them, heavy appliances/pans that could get dropped on them. So I have tried to remember to keep Tibbe out and your story will certainly help with my resolve. Glad your baby and you are okay! |
Oh my! You poor thing! Good thinking on the baby gates though! I need to do that. Katie Scarlett is always at my feet when I cook. With our open concept kitchen, not sure I could do a gate, but her xpen is set up in there. I think I'll start making sure she is in there from now on. I hope your hand heals quickly too! |

1 Attachment(s) oops missed one. |
Ouch! I am so sorry you were burned and I pray you recover quickly. You are a good mommy to have the gate up so that no one else was hurt. |
Omg... Thank you for sharing your story, I really hope you will be better soon, I know how much burns hurt... Just yesterday I dropped a large sharp knife, and was thinking thank goodness they weren't under foot. Miss Mini knows how to run at any of the danger sounds in the kitchen, she has bore witness to all my kitchen misfortunes! I really don't worry about her but having a new pup...you just made me think, I will be more careful from now on and put my baby gates in kitchen when cooking! Thanks so much for the reminder of how important this is! Take care and feel better soon. |
I am so sorry to hear you were burnt and I hope you recover quickly. I also gate off the kitchen when I am preparing food. Between hot pans and garlic and onions I figure better safe than sorry. |
