| Traveling to the UK January 21 2012 report. I want to relate my experience flying to England with my Yorkie last month. At US airways check-in in Orlando the staff did not know what to do, it took an hour and lots of phone calls and meetings before they were satisfied that I had researched the UK laws and was in possession of the correct documentation. Mogwi flew with me on my lap and the passenger beside me on this crowded flight was very nice and complimented me on my well behaved dog. We flew to Charlotte first where we had a three hour stop over. The service dog area is outside security, in fact outside the terminal building. This meant we had to come back in and go through the same search procedure as in Orlando, a bit of a pain. As it was an international flight we had to have my passport pre -checked. All I had to show was my passport and my doctors letter stating the purpose of the service dog, she did not check any other documents. Mogwi was great on the flight which lasted seven hours and thirty minutes , he slept most of the way. On landing in London Gatwick we had to wait for all the passengers to de plane so that the Animal reception person could come on the plane and check Mogwi. He scanned the micro chip first, then read all the documents. There were no problems so we walked to passport control. The officer behind the desk had never seen a dog come through with the owner before, so as in Orlando, I had to wait with Mogwi until all the managers etc had been contacted, about 30 min. The passport control officer walked with me and Mogwi up to the baggage collection area, he helped me with my bags and walked me through customs, great service! That was that, a very simple straightforward journey and one that used to be difficult if not impossible! |
