To the OP....I'm so very sorry for your loss, how heartbreaking! I admire you for trying to make others aware of this problem. Quote:

The only dog food or treats I currently trust is by Wysong. Otherwise I make home prepared meals (recipes provided by canine nutritionist) and home prepared treats. |
This thread has made me question the food I give to Sophie Kate. I need to research a little further Hills Science Diet and the Charlie Bear treats that she gets. Again to the OP I am sorry for your loss and thank you for the warning. JenCar and the other posters who mentioned the fillers coming from China, thank you for bringing that to my attention- Honestly I never knew. |
I am so sorry for your loss. I just do not understand why these things are still being sold in our stores....this has been a known problem for years. Horrible. |

To the OP, I hope you lab is doing OK, I have been thinking about you. I just looked at bag of milk bone brand pork chews, not sure when I bought them but they were not opened, after reading the fine print, I saw those were made in China, jeezzze I thought you could not get more American than the Milk Bone brand. I just partially cooked a sweet potato and cut it into sticks, this along with carrots and cooked chicken, will be Lola's treats from now on. Hope the milk bones themselves are OK, because they seem to help keep her teeth nice and white and her breath pretty good. |
That's a very good question. There are hundreds of comments on their Facebook page about dogs becoming very ill and dying after consuming their chicken jerky products. I only went back to December, I'm sure there are many more. They point the finger back at the consumers, claiming we all overfed our dogs. Everyone has the same story, it's very sad. Quote:

Thank you. Buddy, my Lab, was tested on Monday and all of his test results came back fine and he has finally gotten over his diarrhea after 3 weeks. We have only fed our 3 dogs WellnessŪ, from their regular dog food to dog treats. The one time we buy something new, this is the result. The crazy thing is Canyon Creek Ranch Brand is a company of Waggin' Train, LLC., which is a subsidiary of Nestle Purina. You would think that such a big brand would want to protect its name; apparently that does not matter. Quote:

So very glad to hear Buddy's tests came back good and that he's feeling better. Still so sorry for your loss. Continued prayers. |
That's just terrible. I'm glad we stopped purchasing treats made from China when we first heard. I'm sorry for the loss and offer our condolences. No pet owner should have to go through this. And to think we used to purchase Canyon Creek! |
My baby loves the canyon creek chicken chips. She just turned her nose up at 2 other treats I offered her. She had caught me looking at the bags where I keep the treats so she came begging for one. I hate to dispose of them, but I know I shouldn't take the chance. I printed out the FDA statement, Caution to Dog Owners About Chicken Jerky Products, and will bring it with me when I try to return the over half a bag I have left to PetSmart. It's hard, because she is so picky about her treats, and I felt good thinking I was giving her chicken and not just some other junk. What on earth could be in these treats that causes a problem? I assume the yams and sticks wrapped with chicken are also bad :( I guess it's ANY China made treat that has to go, right? So sorry for your loss, at least you have done good and hopefully helped others avoid this problem. You might want to look for forums for other popular breeds and post there. Maybe if enough people return, or stop buying, they will get the message. Aaagh, I'm so mad. For $10/pound for these darn treats you'd really THINK they were a good thing. |
So very sorry for your loss....Ive never tried the chicken jerky for my babies...and I never will thanks to you sharing your story. Many prayers for you |
I can't believe they still sell it at our pet stores and at a reduced price! They should take it off the shelf all together. Shameful. |
My friend lost all 4 of her Yorkies several years ago, before it became well known that these jerky treats from China were killing our pets. I personally stay away from ALL pet treats and only give mine human food for treats, especially since treats are just small "rewards"and not the mainstay of their diets. Green beans are a favorite around here, and then Cheerios and vanilla wafers and Gold Fish. |
