Microchip or Not??? Trixie is getting her dental today and I was wondering if I should have her microchipped at the same time. I had read that the microchip could cause some problems because it is under the skin and was wondering what everyone here felt. Is your dog microchipped and if not, why. Thanks. |
I 100% encourage microchip implantation. The benefits and positives of microchips far outweigh the possible negatives. While ID tags are nice to have...they are in no way comparable to a microchip. A great example is something HollyandMommy (member) posted. It's a long story, but to make it short and sweet; her dog was declared dead by a malicious, mischievous AC worker. The dog was found a year later; very much alive. The microchip is what brought Armani back to the member. Another situation that takes place ALL too often is that dogs are stolen, and ID tags are removed along with collars...then you can permanently say goodbye to your pet. I strongly encourage you to get Trixie microchipped whilst she's in for her dental. |
I don't see any reason NOT to microchip. It's an added layer of security for getting your dog back to you if by chance they get lost. I am fairly certain most people on YT will say yes to microchips! Jackson has one, don't even know it's in there, lol. I do check it every year at a dog event we got to where they do free scanning, just to make sure it's still working. |
Zoey was chipped and she was didn't even cry. I think it is a great idea. No down side. Cherie |

Hope the dental goes well! |
All my pack is microchiped and my puppies NEVER leave my house to go to their new home without a microchip, they get the chip at 12 weeks just before they go home.. and I am the second contact in the chip registration, so my dogs will always be home in case of an emergency... hugs, |

Brew opted for the ear tattoo when he went in for his snip. i think i may still get the mirochipping done as an extra precaution, but i like that any old person could see it and know that he has a home. they can only do the tattoo when he is knocked out, mircochip can be done anytime. his ears stand up so i was worried at first that he would look like a prison dog ;), but it's actually very well done. it's not near the tops of the ear it's deeper inside the ear so some of his hair covers it up at bit. i'm really happy with how it turned out. his tattoo say 2JAZ. 2=the number of neuters they have done for the year, JA=connects to the vets office, Z=the year 2012. it's pretty much the same size as the font i'm typing in. i feel like in the rual area we live in people are more likely to see something, then to think of a microchip. i wouldn't say the mircochip is a bad idea at all though. |
Both of my dogs are microchipped. There is NO way I would not mircochip them! Roscoe got microchipped before I adopted him and Sukie got microchiped the next day after I adopted her. |
My 2 dogs and even my cat, that has never taken a step outside, are all microchipped. I know someone who had a pet sitter pick up their dog from the vet and was given the wrong dog...same color and breed, but wrong dog!! The dog had been given a bath before going home and the wrong collar was put on. The pet sitter wasn't familiar enough with the dog to notice. 24 hours later the vet realized the mistake and it was corrected... A fluke accident - yet you can see how that could happen in certain situations. I want to be certain that my pets stand every chance of being returned to me should they ever get lost...and I want it to be clear that they are mine. Collars with name tags are great, but can come off...microchipping is safe and sure! |

All of mine have been chipped.Never once have any of them had a problem with it. |
Morgan got microchipped when I got him neutered |
I would say get her chipped. Coco isnt chipped, but thats just because of the plain reason that we didnt know much about things like that when we got her. But if you have any opprotunity to do so, i would do it. Its just an added layer of protection(; just incase god forbid she doesn't have her tag on or something, she'll be returned to you(: |
Yes to the microchip! We got Cody microchipped on his first vet visit at 13 weeks. Just to be clear, while a lot of folks choose to wait until their dog is under, that's not a requirement. It's about a 2 second procedure and it's not that big of a deal. Animals can be chipped at any time and any age (well, okay, don't know about those wee ones under 8 weeks... but that's it!). Which is convenient, because they can get lost at any time or any age as well. ;) Both of my cats (who never get out of the house) are chipped as well. If there's a way to take an extra precaution to keep your baby safe in emergencies, it's worth it. 100%. |
Buddy is the only 1 microchipped. He is an escape artist who loves to run away and go to strangers to say hello. He opens the back door unless it is locked. The same with house windows and car doors. He removed his tie out by digging it up from the ground. My yorkies don't run away, wander, or escape. I walk them on harnesses and they wear collars with IDs on them. If they were stolen or lost I doubt someone would return them. It does also say on their collars- "I am spayed". My girls will not approach strangers. |
Gracie was a little on the small side so I waited until she was a year old to get her spayed. I liked the idea of microchipping her but I was concerned about doing it. She was still quite small at a year old and didn't have an ounce of extra fat on her. I decided to go ahead and have it done. I could feel the chip under her skin for the first 3 months but now I can't find it when I try searching for it. It's there and in place. She did put on a few more ounces of weight. I'm really glad I had it done. She also wears her ID tags. There is always the "other side" of any issue but I have seen way more positive reasons for having it done then any negative information. |
All four of mine are chipped they are far too important not to be. |
Louie is chipped because he came from Columbia Second Chance, and they chip all of the dogs they adopt out. I would have done it anyway, though. I also think the ID tags are important because if he gets away from me, I think non-dog owners would just not know anything about a microchip. This way, they have my phone number and I can get my baby back quickly :) |

Levi is microchipped! :) It definitely gives me more peace of mind. He was microchipped by his rescue before I ever brought him home, but I would have opted to have it done anyway. |
I beleive every dog should be and wanted to let people know nationwide Humane society shelters offer micro-chipping to owners at a discounted rate. It's a great way to protect your baby and support a worthy cause-especially if so some strange reason your vet doesn't offer the service. Many local city/county shelters also offer this service in efforts to bring in funds and protect pets. |
We had Katie Scarlett microchipped when she was in for her spay last week. It really gives us peace of mind too! |
Mine are all microchipped and always wear tags too. I want to make sure that if they are found they will come back to me! |
They didn't microchip her yesterday, but said that I could bring her in anytime and they would numb the area and insert the chip. UGH! |
