I don't argue the fact that the topics are controversial and the potential newbie is in dire need of some hardcore facts, my thread is aimed at the op's that seemingly look for the outburst, scolding reactions, only to continue to post their "opinion" in conflict even though facts and outside links have been provided. I will agree with megansmomma in that I may just stay out of it to save myself grief, regardless of the thought that it very well may be just another troll looking for a reaction. I may be giving people too much credit. I would expect them to have done some reading and at least know what they have done or are thinking of doing is erroneous. Then attempt to gain backdoor access rather than come in the front door with muddied shoes and completely oblivious, or inconsiderate to the light colored carpet and shoe-less household. I absolutely respect the opinions on this site, for one they are backed with years of experience that outweigh my own 5 weeks and the majority are absolutely sincere. Thanks again for everything guys. |

But some friends and I stopped in a local pet store after dinner one night - and there was the cutest yorkie I had ever seen. (No idea how old she was). I asked about the breeder and they said they were very familiar with her; from Missouri, etc. (We were in WV at the time). Anyhoo, I asked if I could bring Ringo in to meet with her and what would happen if they didn't get along. They basically said that she would be mine no matter what and if they didn't get along - OH WELL. No meet and greet. I kept stopping in even though I knew better. The last time I stopped in; she was still there - only now $1600 as opposed to $1400 because they had added a microchip. I forced myself to walk away and search for a humane breeder. (Whole nuther story). Long story short - I can see how easy it would be - their cute little faces grab your heart and it is hard to walk away. But more and more people are getting the message, I think. |

While I hate to speak badly of my state, there are a ton of "breeders" here who are actually puppy mills or bybs. They are EVERYWHERE! And legislation to stop it keeps coming through, but it's always written so that, secretly, it will help the puppy mills and hurt the few reputable breeders that are out there (the last one was actually really bad for farmers, too. Since my parents are farmers, I heard a lot about that one.) A lot of my friends have bought from bybs, and it bothers me to no end. I have a friend whose mom is on the board for Columbia Second Chance (the rescue where I got Louie) and you wouldn't believe how many puppy mill and byb rescues they take in every year. It's just sad, but there are too many people out there who are ignorant to the issues, even in a state like Missouri, where puppy mills run rampant. Okay, I'll come down off of my soapbox now  It just makes me so angry! |
i think it's true of any forum. i belong to several and on each one there are always those people who love to stir up trouble by asking questions that they know are going to upset the "long timers." for instance like on my soap making forum asking about coloring soap with wax crayons...LOL that question alone will end up being a loooong thread with alot of fighting among members. any forum is going to have the troublemakers.... just like real life. |

I've tried going to other forums too, there's just something about YT that I like better. Never really got into any others, even though I really tried. I know how it feels to be on the other side. |
I think it is about half of the new posters are fake. I try to be polite. If new posters have questions, I suggest good threads they can use. But I don't pour out my soul until I get know someone. |
Wow 50 % fake that's a lot, IDK I would have guessed about 20% overall. They do so seem to run in waves. What we refer sometimes to as "the full moon time at YT". |
I do not think anyone of the long time YT's give advice in the wrong way, I think it is the way it is taken. I have been here a couple of years now and I took things the wrong way but, since I have been here I have been educated by some really great people and threads and I also have found myself always trying to read anything I can find on puppy mills, BYB's and Pet Stores. Before I came to YT I would have thought nothing about walking into a Pet store and buying a puppy,Now, you wont catch me near a Pet store, I have become a foster Mom for YTNR and I have my own facebook page to try and help Yorkies. I feel that I have become one of the strong voices against Puppy Mills and BYB's and I will continute to share all that I have learned in the best possible way that I can, even if I think it is a troll I will still voice my opinion and what I know about it in a strong voice. We need to tell everyone we can what we have learned and try to educate them. |
