Hi, I am a new member here, love this webiste. This is my story. I wanted a yorkie since 2009, but I did not find any breeders in our area. Finally,
we found two breeders. I choose one near me. When we went to the breeders house, OMG, it was a dirty house, and 2 cute Yorkies runing around, she has the parents, looked good and healthy to me, both have certifications of pure breed Yorkies (maybe, I dont know what is true or not but I saw the papers). She was honest with us (we thought), she said that She did not have money for vet and she went to petsmart, she told us that the puppies had their first shot and other thing, we saw the paper. I asked her the age of the puppies and she told us that the puppies were 8 weeks old. She told us the puppies are eating dry food, she gave us a grocery bag with some food, the name of the food, etc, etc, etc She told us that she never send the papers for the puppies AKA certification because she did not have the money, we saw the applications.

I was so sad because the house look so horrible, the place was cold, I told my husband I want the female with or without the papers, I will have a better place for her in my home. I was so mad but on the same time, I was happy to have my baby yorkie, I checked her and she looked fine to me. I had everything in my house waiting for the puppy. We went to our house, our kids were so happy, the puppy was ok but hours later, she (the owner) sent me a text and told me that the puppy that I named Bailey is 6 weeks old not 8.

I was so mad, but I need to be honest, I dont want to return the puppy to that house. The puppy cannot eat the food that she gave me, she drink
some water. We gave her puppy milk, nothing, she has energy, but we are worried, we mixed the food with milk but that did not work the food was still hard. Today she drank a lot of water, and we bought a can of a wet food and she ate a little bit in the morning, a little bit in the afternoon
and dinner, she used the bathroom for number 2, she looks great. I read here about the wet food and I want to change the food for dry. She is sleeping alot.

Me again: Hi !!!!! Bailey is eating well, the owner told me that the puppy ate eukanuba dry food, I dont think so but now, she is eating wellness wet food, in a few week a will change it for dry food. She loves wellness can food. This is my second day with Bailey, she is trying to bite EVERYTHING, but I bought some toys.

Does she have teeth ? just saying if she were my puppy i would buy a can of goats milk and dilute with water 50/50, give her a little a few times a day and keep giving the wet food for a few days until you feel that she is eating & drinking good, then slowly add the dry in with the wet

you have to make sure she is eating good, babies can go down so fast, and its not easy getting them back up...i wish you luck

goats milk can be bought at walmart or some grocery stores

Goats milk is a good idea or Esbilac would help . Esbilac is a puppy milk replacement that is available in powder or canned. There are also other brands of the same.

If she is eating a good brand of canned food I would not be in a big hurry to change her over. If it is a good natural variety of food then canned food is every bit as good for a dog as dry. There is no advantage to the dry except the packaging. You need proper dental care for a dog but dry food does not provide that. Brushing your dogs teeth with a good dog tooth paste and giving them things like bully sticks to chew will keep their teeth in good shape.

The size of the dog's teeth will tell you a lot about the age of the puppy. It sounds like you got totally ripped off by this lady. I hope you didn't give her much money.

Lol she has some teeth, and a few are coming, well she is trying to bite me right now lol she is eating and drinking water, she loves the wet food, I bought her wellness just for puppy. This is my second day with her. She is from neck to tail 10 1/2 inches and weight 1 pound 2 oz.

Your Yorkie's name is Bailey? Mine too! I don't know too much about a 6 week old puppy. But I think you should take her to a vet and see their say.

Welcome, I am pretty new here also. I know that if your puppy is really that young, there is alot you need to watch for. There is a wealth of information here and I recommend highly that you READ, READ, READ as much on this forum as you can! Best of luck with your puppy!

Grace, thank you for your inf. She is eating Wellness just for puppy wet food. About her teeth, they are growing now, you can see little tiny teeth inside her gums. She has the back teeth. She runs, plays for a few minutes and sleeps a lot. When can she take a bath ? Like a told you, the house of the owner was dirty, cold, and in bad condition.

@joyce, I think she is fine, eating, playing, sleeping lol

Bailey's information: She is 10 inches long from neck to tail, she has a short tail. Her weight 1 pound 1 oz. Born dic/2/11 eating 3 times per day, loves wellness wet food.

Mom: weight 6 pounds, the owner told me that. she was a big yorkie, her color was tan and a little bit of grey,
Father: small yorkie, face color tan body grey, owner told me she is 4 pounds.

The reason i asked about her teeth was most babies have teeth at 5 to 6 weeks
this can give one a idea of how old a baby is..if in doubt

it sounds like that you are taking really good care of her :) keep her nice & warm
they can chill so fast..if you have a heating pad turn it on (low) and cover with a warm blanket she will love it :)

Micah, Bailey has some teeth, looks so cute. She has a blanket and a nice bed. She is my baby. You can see her in my profile picture. I am writing everything in a notebook, eat time, how many minutes she sleeps, plays, amount of food etc, etc. She doesnt have her ears up yet, I dont know why :confused::confused::confused:

She is still so young don't worry they will be up soon, trim the hair off on the tips that helps..she is a babydoll :)

have you taken her to the vet yet, or spoke to one on the phone if you go, wait outside in your car until it is your turn to go in, 6 weeks is very young to have a yorkie puppy, and not all vet offices are as clean as they should be. Make sure you do not take her ANY place where other dogs are like Petsmart until she has all her shots. Don't worry about the dry food at this time

Bailey slept all night, she did not cry, this morning she ate, poop, pee, played, and now she is sleeping again in her pink bed in my bathroom, why in the bathroom ? Because my bathroom is warm, i have a pad for dog, but she can see it lol lol well sometimes. If a wrote something wrong sorry, I am learning english, i am from Puerto Rico but now, I am living in upstate Ny, my first language is spanish.

congrats on your new little bundle of joy! it's so sad that the pup came from such poor conditions and was given to you so young. but it's great that you are doing such a great job with her, she's a lucky little girl. as far as all the biting goes, you might want to read up on "bite inhibition" which can be a problem when pups are seperated from the litter/ mother so young. this could be why she is biting so much. plus if her teeth are coming in that could also explain why. when i adopted my little pixie she did a lot of hand biting too. she was almost 5 months old and was seperated from her brother and mother at a pretty young age (unknown exactly when). we would literally say "ouch" very loud when she did it to help her understand that it hurts. sounds crazy but it worked pretty well. wishing you all the best with your new little one that you have been wanting for so long, and welcome to yorkie talk. this is a truly wonderful place full of people who care and are always there when you need them!

I am a newbie, as of yesterday!!
 

Hi Everyone, I just found this site yesterday, and I'm so excited. I have a 9 month old yorkie, and have so many questions that I hope can be answered. This is my first Yorkie, her name is Maggie. She's a cutie,...but does not give kisses!!!.. She will lick my fingers, or give a quick lick on my leg....but will not give kisses. I'm so bummed!! She actually turns her head away, or straight up in the air, to avoid my face!.It's not just me!! She gives no=one kisses! I've never known a puppy to do this. I've had several dogs, and they all gaves kisses. Does anyone know what's wrong,,or what I could do? My second thing is, she will not stop eating everything in sight!. She runs around with her nose to the pavement, or floor or grass,,and puts everything she finds in her mouth. Had to take her to the vet last week, because I she was vomitting alot, and aster x-rays, they found bark mulch, in her tummy..She wasn't blocked up,,,but she was having problems digesting it. She is now on vet prescribed canned i/d gastointestinal health food for a couple of weeks...What can I do to get her to stop this? I've tried taking her out on a leash as opposed to letting her out in my fenced area,,,but she refuses to do her "business" unless she is free to run!..I'm so discouraged. She's not at all what I thought it would be like to have a Yorkie!!! She is more work, then I ever bargained for...and I don't know what to do. What am I doing wrong?

Are all these pups coming from the same breeder ??:confused: This is the second one I read today with pups at 4 -6 weeks going to new homes ??

This breeder whoever it is , is not a good breeder pups are too young to be taken away fr their mom and this is why these poor new owners are here asking for help. I hope they all get the help they need , but first go see a good vet .
And I pray all these little one made it.

I feel sorry for the puppy that still lives in the dirty house....perhaps you can help him....and then find a home for him?

@Manina: I came here to tell my story, I did not came for help BUT wow, this is my new classroom hahahaha, I am a member now, but I came before. About the breeder, she is not a breeder, she is an inrresponsable owner and yes, Bailey has an appointment friday.
@Geoffrey: I can not buy the male puppy but I did something, I called animal control and I explained to them my story, I told them about the house and conditions, etc etc. My sister wants the male puppy, but she doesnt have the money either



Hi new friends

I know, I made a mistake when I bought Bailey, without papers, or AKC, or vet. checked. I don’t know if she is a pure breed Yorkie, or if she will be a tiny dog (the owner told that) I was so prepared with inf. but when I saw this female puppy, in that cold, ugly house, I forgot everything. I paid $500, the owner wanted $650, I was so angry. This is the third litter. I saw pictures of the others puppies, looked so cute.

Question: Bailey's mom was tan, dad was tan and blue color, why were all the puppies black and red?? (I don’t know if this color is correct lol) Bailey is black/red and she has her legs and belly tan.

second question, how can I love an animal only in 2-3 days??? I don’t know, but I love this ball of hair. She is running a lot. Something new is that she is barking, well, she thinks, she is doing it lol, she is so funny. I think she is bigger than yesterday, I am not crazy haha, I bought her a few dresses XS, bad, TOO BIG lol so she is using the only one XXS that I bought.

Two days is a loooonnnnngggg time when it comes to falling in love with these little critters. I fell in love with the printed words that a Yorkie needed a new, good home and there was not even a photo of him...but I knew in that instant that he was mine!
