Bailey's Spay :/ Bailey is getting spayed today. I think i might be having a harder time that she is. I've been so sad all day, i cried for a bit when i dropped her off. I know this is for the best, but i feel terrible for doing this to her :(. She's having the laser surgery, and also she is getting the safest anesthesia. I wanted top of the line for my baby, b/c she is worth it. My mom is going to be picking her up this afternoon, I will be at work. I already can't wait to get off work and home to my babygirl. I'm wondering what i can expect now that she will be fixed. Bailey is a very active dog. She lives with 5 toy poodles, and so she is constantly running around playing with everything. This is going to be hard to not allow her to jump on things for the next 2 weeks. I'm going to have to make her sleep in her crate at night, so she doesn't jump off the bed throughout the night. It's going to break my heart. When I go to work, she usually stays in my mom's office (she works from home) with all the other dogs. But for the next 2 weeks, she is going to leave her in her crate and only take her out to go outside. My heart is already breaking for Bailey. She is not going to like this. Would it be a good idea to take her for a long walk since I can't allow her to run and jump around the house like she usually does? Is it true that dogs gain weight after being fixed? I really question this one b/c bailey is so active. Will her personality change any? I'm just not sure what to expect, I hope it's nothing drastic. I can't wait to have my little baby back in my arms, I miss her already! oh also, they will be sending her home with the cone for her head. Will she be able to eat with that thing on? or lay down? |
She will do fine. She may gain a little weight since she is still growing but if she is active she wont become overweight. I didnt like the cone but prefered putiing a baby onsie on. Two weeks will go by fast then you will be back to normal |
What size onesie should i get for her? she has a tail, so will that work? lol She is 8lbs, but she's a little long (maybe it's b/c of her tail). i was thinking of going to walmart now to buy her some chicken and rice to eat for a couple days, and i can get a onesie. I really don't like the idea of the cone either. |

Onesie would be great. You put it on the opposite you would a child. There are 3 snaps in the crotch area, snap to the two end one's and leave the third one unsnapped and pull her tail thru that. Now I had a 9lb girl at one time and the size I bought her was the 0-3 month old. You can probably try and judge the size by looking at them. |
Good luck at the vet today with your Bailey. Our Bailey was neutered about 5 minutes ago. The vet just called to say all went well. We get to pick him up this afternoon about 4:30! |
Hope both the Baileys do well. The onesies work great I used them on Bubba and Sissy. |
onesies are fabulous, I used them when Prada got spayed, and just bought a few more for my mom,her Ruby is getting spayed on Tuesday. sending good vibes for your girl.. hugs |
Oh my, I just called my vet and they don't do the laser and said that they keep the females overnight and that the vet checks on them throughout the night, not sure I believe that...now she won't be spayed for a few months now but I am already worrying about this.. Did any of your girls have to stay overnight with a typical spay? Yoshi got to come home that evening after his neutering... |
We dropped off Zoey for her spay around 8am and was able to pick her up later that afternoon around 4pm. |

EZ fix, go look for another vet. Also, your vet doesn't have to be the one doing the spay. Search online for vets near you who do laser those are the ones that tend to be more up to date. |
Don't they look so cute with their onesie on??? I love it!! Just remember she had surgery on her belly so don't pick her up from under the arms so that the belly stretches. Pick her up from under the butt...gently. Praying that she has a speedy recovery. |
With the type of surgery she is having I don't think it is going to take two weeks of confinement for her to recover. Gracie was very quiet the first two days but honestly acted totally normal after that. It would be very much harder on your little one to stay in a crate than to let her out and let her do what she feels up to doing. Gracie has pet steps to be able to get up and down off the bed but she still jumped up on the couch. There was just no stopping her and she did just fine. Animals just recover so much better and faster than humans. |
I am going to check into seeing another vet,,I just don't like the thought of her staying overnight, at least when she is here I know that she will have someone with her all night...Oh and I must find some cute onesies,,they are too cute anyway. Thanks everyone and so glad to hear that the spaying went well. |
Yes find another vet. Bailey is home and on my lap. He handled his neutering like a MAN, is pretty doped up, but doing fine. Look for references from other female dog owners and try their vet. |
