Some of the most undog places you've taken your dog?
 

Those of you that carry your dog around, while you're out and about, in a dog carrier? I was talking to a lady at the nursing home today that told me about one Sunday when she had a tiny Yorkie, that she carried in a purse, about bringing it to church with her. I'm curious about the places some of you have taken your dogs? :)

I have a 3-in-1 carrier that works great for odd situations. It's an airline carrier with wheels and a handle. It serves as a backpack carrier for walking around. In the car, it's used as a carseat.

The backpack was particular helpful when I found myself at a crowded street market. I couldn't set him down because he would have been stepped on. I've snuck him into restaurants as well when it was too cold to leave him in the car.

Sneakiest I've been with a dog is sneaking Eddie into a no-dogs hotel in my coat. It was a big coat, and you could hardly tell!

ZoE's been in her bag in many restaurants, many stores, orthodontist, library, movie theatre, bank, post office, gas station, cider mill...I know there's a few more I'm forgetting...

Hmmm, I've taken Sophia and Peyton to church before. :)

And, we stayed somewhere in TN that didn't allow dogs. :mad: :eek: They were none the wiser as the Yorkies were excellently behaved! ;)

I took my first Peyton to a kids place....out of business now, but at the time it was sort of like a Chuck E Cheese's...it had rock climbing, laser tag, etc. Someone complained. How rude of them! :mad: :p He was not well and just slept the whole time in a blanket on my lap. I had to go sit by the front until my kids were done playing. :rolleyes: The employees were nice, but the complainer threatened to call the management on them. It was winter, so I couldn't leave him in the car, and I couldn't leave my kids either.

I haven't taken Bells out in her KB yet, but I plan to. I am hoping to take her to Walmart, the mall, and so on.

....If only I could get her in her KB :(

We took Allie on a dolphin cruise with us in south padre. Needless to say she edged her nose under the zipper of her stroller and jumped into the ocean....

So far Cody's only gone to the mall with me. But he and his KB are about to take a vacation with us, so I'm sure I'll have some stories then! We did pick a B&B that allows pets though, and we even found a local winery that lets dogs come. Now if only I could figure out how to take him ziplining with me. (Kidding! Don't worry! He'll stay safely in the room that day. ;) )

Razzle has been on a ferry boat ride. Climbed a lighthouse with me. In a local museum(he was in his purse carrier). Been on a plane 4 times. Various restaurants and coffee shops, and to the zoo.

Razzle has been canoeing, and motorboating.

We winter in Key West and I take Bella everywhere, restaurants, grocery shopping, wine bars, jewellery stores, mall...There is a church in Big pine key that the priest has two large dogs.. golden retrievers and when he was doing mass the two dogs would lay on the alter during the service. Before church would start the dogs would go up and down the aisles and people would bring treats for them. There were lots of other people there with small dogs also. Once a month he wouild do a specialty mass just for the animals. I thought that was a great idea. Key West is such a dog friendly city. We love it there!:)

We have a comedy series 'over here' called The Vicar of Dibley - and one of the episodes was just what you're describing! :)

Our local church also often has 'pet friendly' services (unfortunately, most of the kids round here just take their teddy bears.....:D) Sally + Harry x

I'm afraid to take our Chihuahua and Sparrow with us except to the pet store. I see signs everywhere that only service dogs are allowed so I don't do it. I know of one story on a Chihuahua forum where one of the forum members worked at a hardware store that allowed dogs until one or a few dogs brought in fleas. They had a really tough time getting rid of all the fleas.

I know my dogs are clean and free of parasites, but other people don't know that so I understand why there are rules particularly around food. I think it should be okay in outdoor dining areas because it's open to the elements and a dog is really not the worst thing that could be around the food.

I would like to take my dogs to more places so I wish there were more dog friendly places to go.

I haven't taken Princess out much, just because I'm very shy (typically:rolleyes:) & don't want the extra attention. Plus after going to a bad groomer I believe, she is terrified of places like that.:(
After I got her however, I put her in my purse & snuck her in a store to weigh her. It was funny because a couple days later I walked passed a woman going into the same store & she had a tiny Chi in her basket in her electric shopping cart.

Slowly teach her. I had Kaji sleeping in his at night on my bed. Then I'd carry him to the park in it, and carry him home, and eventually we were going everywhere with our KB. He goes to the movies, restaurants, church (outside of the carrier), the grocery store of I have to pop in for something quick. I don't like taking him places he shouldn't but it's nice to know I have the carrier for spur of the moment stuff.

Well, I bring Jackson a lot of places, but none that he's not really allowed. He's been in Home Depot and Lowes and walked on the ground on leash, nobody said anything. I bring him to Gettysburg every summer and he stays at the pet-friendly hotel with us and eats with us at this one Irish pub that has an outdoor area. Downtown Annapolis is always pet friendly, so he will come with me and walk around and sit at the outdoor restaurants. Most stores in downtown don't mind if you walk in with them either. He's been camping with us in my dads RV at different campgrounds... etc, etc. He's gone a LOT of places but most he is allowed. lol. There no sneaking 16lbs of him anywhere. ;) At the campground, there's an arcade and I always just let him come in when my brother plays the games, nobody has ever told me not to, ha.

I live in a fairly rural area where most people are "big dog people" so we don't have a lot of signs up to keep dogs out. I've had no problems when I need to run into a store with Gracie in the bag. No one has ever caught on.

I think it's so funny that the lady the OP mentioned felt the need to take her dog to church!:)

Funny story, the only time I have been 'caught' was when this lady at Macys went crazy for my red Coach purse. She kept touching it and talking. Finally Gracie popped her head out to see who was patting her. The lady jumped back and said "Sweet Lord she has a alive thing in that purse, a cat, rat or something !" The sales girl grinned and I just walked away. No one ask us to leave.

We haven't gone in anywhere with Bailey yet, except petsmart and stuff. I was in TjMaxx the other day, and I am looking around and suddenly I see a dog pop out of a carrier in some lady's cart! It was a little chi in a dress in a pink juicy bag. Sounds a little like Bailey! :)

We have been everywhere... Almost. Couver and Khloe are really well behaved in their KB bag, so they are always with me when I run errands. The only place they haven't been with me is to work. They have been to: Costco, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, the movies, restaurants (I usually avoid, but they have come before), the mall... Everywhere :)

The most "undog" place I have taken mine is probably the plane- it really isn't very dog friendly but we always survive just fine and get to other side fine. I do wish they would make air travel more dog friendly since so many people travel with their pets.

Lets see, we have been to the mall (including Dillards, Bath and Body Works, JCPennys, and many more), Dollar Tree, Fabric stores, and gosh I don't know where else. A few office places. Anywhere I think I can get away with it. :D

I left mine on the floor and put one of Rosie's toys in it. She started smelling it and put her head in it. I then started to put her in it without closing it up. After a few days she would just jump right in it. She is EXCELLENT in her KB bag!

I have had 5 yorkies and through the years and they have gone to some very odd places for dogs, I traveled for work when I had my first one, and he flew on a plane with me almost weekly, that was before the airlines security was so strict and I figured out ways to smuggle him on board, he must have flown more that 100 times. He went on ski trips with us, and rode the lift to the top several times, I once had him on chair lift. I attached a picture of him in a bar at the base of Aspen Mt. He also went to the top of whatever they call that place in downtown St Louis. We are involved in offshore boats and do a lot of poker runs, all my dogs have participated in those, attached are a few pictures. I even smuggled my last little guy Kirby, into a bar named Kirbys! I have had my dogs in movie theaters, Wallmart, Whole Food, most department stores, HomeGoods,(they love my current Lola) the dentist's office, an elementary school, nursing home (two were therapy dogs) and so many places I can not remember. When allowed in places like Lowes, HomeGoods, and Garden Centers, I bring a flat fuzzy do bed and put it in the childs seat in the grocery cart and Lola sits it in like a queen bee.

Lola (yorkie/pom mix) just turned one and has flown about 6 times now, bummer though it costs an arm and a leg, here are some photos from a recent flight to NY The one of her hanging in the bag is taken in a stall in the woman's bathroom at JFK, thought that was pretty funny.

Bummer the phots are to large for this site, there is even one of her with the pilots, I will have to figure out how to resize them

Katie Scarlett goes everywhere with us, but we haven't been anywhere unusual yet. I have taken her in Lowes, Petsmart, Petco, and the vet of course. I tried to take her in IKEA with me in Baltimore and got stopped at the door. They were not rude or anything, just nicely asked if she was a service dog. I said no and they explained that since they serve food there, she could not come in. So I went back out with her and waited on my husband. Then he swapped places with me. I haven't 'snuck' her anywhere yet. I guess I am kind of afraid to. I don't want to get into any trouble or have people yelling at me. If we have big places to go that she can't, she goes to doggy day care. She is never alone though. I know, she is spoiled, but I just can't leave her at home alone. If she is not with us, it's daycare, where they spoil her worse than I do. :)

Roxy and Zoey go to the movies in their bag. Roxy and Zoey is my bag monkeys. They everyplace and never make a peep. Roxy accidentally went with my mom to work. She was sleeping in my mom's bag with her knitting project. Mom went to show someone at work the progress she had made and found her then 2 hrs after she left the house.

Cozy and Lucy pet friendly places only. They get hot quickly in their bags and start to move and fuss.

Lol my son said to the guy driving "our dog just jumped in the water, can you go get her?" and they backed up their boat, scooped her out with a fish net and everyone applauded. Meanwhile my husband was holding me back from jumping in after her, all the while reminding me that I don't know how to swim and would panic, while wondering if he had taken his phone and keys out of his pocket so that He could jump in....

My heart was pounding the entire time she was in the water! I had visions of her getting sucked into the motor, or getting tired from swimming and going under, or a dolphin deciding to ply with her like a beach ball!

We laugh now, but at the time, I was hysterical! And I truly don't swim...I panic if I know I'm in water over my head. But I was at the edge of the boat about to jump in, with my husband and son physically holding me back, while my husband empties his pockets. It's good to know he would have jumped in to save my baby!
