Prayers needed :( So I am going to back-track to about a month ago to start this story so it makes sense. My mom and dad drove about an hr away to pick up a female boston terrier, when they got there the lady had 5 of them sitting outside in like 30 degree weather...way to cold for them to be outside and they were only like 2months old. She told my parents she lets them in the house when it gets down to 15. Well my parents felt so bad they took them all so they wouldn't be outside freezing to death. My mom already had 4 dogs at home as it was, 2 chihuahua, another boston terrier, and a poodle. Well she had found great homes for all the boston terriers they had brought back except for 1 which they were keeping, my little sister decided to name her Darcy. Well Darcy threw up once the other day and my mom just thought she had an upset stomach and left it at that. Well today she has been throwing up with blood in her poop so my mom took her to the vet and they put an iv in and everything and told my mom she has parvo :( and told her that Darcy may not make it. Another sad thing is my mom hasn't gotten any of her dogs their shots...her oldest one is 8yrs I think. And please don't think badly of my mom...we've had dogs my whole life and never had this problem and never gotten them shots because they never leave the house. Also my mom is one of the most animal loving people I have ever met in my life. She accidentally ran over a snake once and had to go back and check to see if it was still alive, she accidentally ran over a squirrel and had to pull of on the side of the road and vomit, then she seen a turtle in the road and went to go push it off but it was a snapping turtle so it spun around to snap at her and so she went back to the car and got a long umbrella and pushed it out of the road. So she would never do anything to hurt her dogs and she is so upset right now and crying because she is so worried and it breaks my heart. So please say a prayer for my mom and her pups! |
Sending up prayers for all.... |
oh i am so sorry for darcy , i hope she can fight it and pull through. i will say a prayer for her and your mom also |
Did your Mom's other dogs at least get their puppy shots (the entire series before turning 1 year old? |
Also, tell her to contact the owners of the other pups... more than likely they'll have it too, and get them to the vets. Dogs can survive Parvo, but I recommend a 24 hour vet hospital if one is near you... or not too far away. It's better for the dog not to be moved back and forth constantly. And clean the house with at least a 5% solution of bleach and water... the yard too if the pup went out. Clean one room and put the other dogs in it until the house is disinfected. |
Ok got a little update. We just talked to my dad and Belle(Chihuahua) got her shots when she got fixed, Peeps(Chihuahua) got hers when she was sick a while back, and Spike(Boston Terrier) got his when he got fixed. So Lucy(Poodle) is the only one my dad is unsure about. My mom just went and picked up bleach at the store so they can disinfect the house since it's the only thing we read can kill parvo. So we got a little good news now just hoping Darcy makes it through and Lucy had her shots! |
That's good. Prayers for the rest of the puppies and her poodle... |
So very sorry to hear this. I agree with contacting the other familes so they can have the boston terriers and other pets in their home vet checked asap. Prayers for your family. |
Ok so all dogs besides Darcy has had their parvo shots! Yay! My mom called the families and they haven't had any signs of it but I think they are taking them to the vets anyways. My mom said Darcy is acting a little better now and she was walking around but right now she is sleeping. The vet gave her a 40%/60% chance on life/death. I feel so bad for them because Darcy is supposed to be my little sister's dog(She's 13). But they are all bleaching their house and shoes because they were told it could be tracked in with shoes. So I am making everyone wipe off their shoes before coming in my house even though Silver is utd with all her shots. I just don't want to risk it. |
Not sure if this is true, but my dad told me that his vet told him, that if a dog already has parvo and gets the shot, it could die and that there's a test they can do to check before they give it. That's what happened to his dog and it almost died. |
I will keep Darcy in my prayers and hope all of the others are ok. |
sending prayers your way |

My prayers to all of your dogs and family |
Sending prayers for the puppies and hugs for the people. You did not know and were doing a loving thing to help these poor puppies. May your kindness be returned with blessings on these dogs and your family. |
Prayers and hugs for all. I hope the baby is ok and the rest of your furkds are healthy. |
Sending prayers and hugs to the familys of all the pups. I lost a pup to parvo many many years ago , I was very young and we lost our first dog, I remember I was so upset that at that time , I told my mom I would never own a dog again. I think it was in the 70's, but time have chge so much , my kids grew up with furbabies all their life. I have some new furbabies now and they are on their 3rd set of shots, and I still won't take them out or be with any other dog , except my. I still ask everyone to wash their hands before handing the pups. I'm so sorry for the pups and your parents, they had such a good heart to take all of them with them and now this. Clean all of the furbabies bedding too and toys, wishing you and your family will rec'd good news. |

Hopefully your mom's other dogs have enough immunity from their vaccines to ward this off, but keep a close eye on them anyway. With Parvo, the sooner dogs are treated, the better they respond... Saying prayers for your mom and her pups, and your dad too! Also, call the seller and let her know... |
sounds like there is hope now anyway, thankfully the other dogs(your moms) wont get it..:) Praying little darcy will be ok:( Those babies probably would have died if your mom didnt do what she did. |
Yea I need to wash all of Silver's stuff and her bowls just in case. But my mom's dogs don't usually play with toys lol they are all lazy bums except for Spike, the male boston terrier. So I will tell her to wash his toys and she was up bleaching everything in her house until late last night. I haven't talked to her today because I had class. But if I find anything else out i will be sure to post. Also thank you all for your prayers, it is very much appreciated! |
Keeping Darcy in my prayers. |
Thanks everyone, talked to my mom a bit ago and she said Darcy seemed to be feeling a little better. I really hope she is on the road to mending! I know it will take a while but I pray that she will be ok. |
I hope your parents will start getting the dogs their shots yearly. Anyone can just walk where a sick dog was and track it into their home with their shoes. Many counties sponsor clinics where you can get your pets shots for much less than going to the vet. You can call your local county seat and ask for information on these so when it is time again they will know what to do. I'll be praying for little Darcy and the rest. |
How wonderful that Darcy seems to be feeling better. You are all still in our prayers. |
