Is my puppy really a yorkie Hi everyone I'm very new to this but already have found ur posts very helpful, my boyfriend got me a beautiful mini yorkie for Christmas, iv already fel in love so am not complaining but I'm just not convinced she's full bread, and was wondering if someone can help, her coat is completely smooth,but is black and tan she's only 11 weeks but any I researched have a fuller coat, maybe I'm being silly but just don't have a clue, and wudn like to think the lady he bouht her from has cheated him xx thanks in advance I will try an post a pic of her ASAP, unable to do it from my iPad, ursula xxx |
Hi TiaMadden My words exactly, l have a Yorkie puppy of now six months, she is great and very spiolt. We got the puppy called Misty in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, UK. and we saw the mother, a cute liitle thing, BUT how can you tell a Yorkie ? |
Yorkie puppies are not born with a full coat :) their coat looks like most any other pup when first born...give him/her a few months and the coat will grow long..welcome to YT :) |
Hi and Welcome to YT! As I recall, Black and tan for a puppy is good and will change when he matures. Thin haired pups mature into full, silky coated adults. 2 Attachment(s) When Lexie came home at 10 weeks her coat was the same. I was so used to seeing those very fluffy furball yorkie pups and thought her coat seemed so thin especially on her legs and rough in some places. It turned out she has a slow growing silky coat and the rough hair was just puppy hair. Now her legs still haven't completely filled out yet but she only just turned 1 so i'll be patient :D Here's pics of her thin puppy coat |
Thank you all very much, I'm goin to go now and post a picture, as her coat is still as smooth as a 3 week old, (going by some of the pictures), u can tell me what u think then, only have her 3 days an she is super spoilt already :) it's hard not to xx :) |
When I got Sophie Kate at 3 months she had the strangest coat, it was almost "wirey". She was not a pretty puppy, but she was cute as cute can be. Now she is 3 years old and her adult coat is very thick and soft. I am sure you little girl will have a beautiful coat when she grows up. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. Well there is no such thing as a mini yorkie a yorkie is just a yorkie. Also they are not born with full coats or there adult coat. Puppies are black and tan. |

thanks thats what i thought, he saw her mother but not father an she assured him it was a full yorkie. he like myself wudn no any better, but i had searched the internet an new as soon as i saw her she wasn a full! i adore her but feel slightly cheated ;/ xxx p.s looks like a yorkie/jack russell |
I agree with everyone... doesn't look like a yorkie, possibly a mix. How much does she weigh? Judging by you arm, looks rather large for 11 weeks, but..does look very sweet and loving. |
Not a full yorkshire terrier......looks like there is dachsund....at least from the face...adorable pup!!! |
1 Attachment(s) we have just rang the lady who is acting very defensive sayin i obviously dont no much about yorkies as they can all look very different, i eplained that alot of people have been asking wat shes crossed with and she said when the papers come through shel prove it, do u think if i take her to the vet 2mora they will be fit to tell me, no matter what the result i wud never send her back, but its just frustrating that we may have been lied to. heres another pic with her coat coming out a little below. she is so adorable and soooo loving |
She may be mixed with yorkie, but I'm not even convinced of that. People can put anything on papers. Ask to see the parents of this doggie. Your little puppy is adorable, but I think your boyfriend was taken advantage of by this woman. |
Yes....she is going to get very defensive because she put one over on your boyfriend. Tell ner that the ladies your talking to are on Yorkietalk and I do believe some of these ladies that answered your post breed and show yorkies. |

She is definitely a cutie. I agree she looks like she could be mixed with a dashahound. She also looks like she could be mixed with a miniature pinscher. I would be very upset with this women. She is defensive because she mislead your boyfriend. Yorkies can vary in size and coloring but they still have very distinct features. There is no way she can argue that this is a pure breed yorkie. With all that said, she is very cute and I know you will love her to pieces! |
If you have papers for her - documented yorkie type - then she is a yorkie. If not, she may be just a yorkie type. |
i have been researching yorkies for the last year an im quite upset i have been cheated. this is my 1st ever puppy and have only ever wanted a yorkie, i cudn believe it wen my boyfriend announced he was goin to get me one for christmas, she had them advertised at full bread and who was he to no it was a lie,i was over the moon! he now feels embarassed tho iv told him id never send her back an love her to bits, but the fact that this women is still tryin to deny it wen wev questioned her is making me angry, what do u suggest i do now?? :/ xx |
I know u feel cheated and deceived .....but take comfort in ur pups love.....she looks like a great cuddler .....I bet she will make an awesome companion! Keep us posted with pictures....she is so cute! Kim |

She is an adorable puppy but the woman woman who sold her to your boyfriend is a dishonest person. I guess I would be concerned that she took money for a puppy she represented as purebred when it was not. That is theft. She should return the money. If she trys to give you AKC papers for that pup I would report her to the AKC. She must be one piece of work to try to pull this one off! |
