| Smokey2011 | 12-23-2011 02:39 AM | Been there, done that with my whippet and my greyhound. The whippet was a poo eater, which I could never correct. The greyhound was a rescue and we all know what kind of garbage they were fed at the track. They both had chronic diarrhea which usually started with vomiting and I wound up taking them at different times to a canine internal medicine specialist. Went through all the tests and rule-outs and besides putting them on a strictly limited ingredient diet (venison and sweet potato) the only thing that helped was extended courses of Flagyl to reduce inflammation. This always worked after only a couple of doses and things were good for a while, but the diarrhea would return and we would have to start the med all over again.
It's all very frustrating, with the quality and consistency of the latest poo being the main topic of conversation and quite expensive, but we do what we gotta doo.. (pardon the pun). I wish you the very best for your little guy and that you untimately hit on the right cure. I think (hope) there must be a special place in Heaven for those of us who take in the 'poor, tired and huddled masses' because we truly deserve that. |
