Prayers needed for our Marlee Grace Last night, our 2-1/2 year old yorkie, Marlee Grace :aimeeyork was accidentally left behind a close door with the trash (I lost her collar at the ocean...so no jingling of tags to listen to). Marlee :aimeeyork ingested some moldy chili at 10:30-ish, by 10:45 she began seizuring, we got into the car and drove to Tacoma, to the emergency vet. They gave her Valium, a muscle relaxer and something else I can't think of. The bill was facing over $1000 so I transferred Marlee to my vet this morning, they have kept her sedated as she keeps having seizures, they have been giving her fluids. We are picking her up at 8:30 and bringing her home for the night. Should she have seizures after tomorrow morning, it will be likely that she has brain-damage and we will need to consider putting her down. Please keep our sweet Marlee :aimeeyork in your prayers tonight, she is the sweetest dog and our family is so sad. Her son, 7-month old Thor is so lost without her and my senior yorkie, Rocco is even missing her. Please pray for us to make the right decisions in what to do. Thank you:love: |
OH my goodness how tragic this is. Many prayers going out for Marlee Grace. I pray that she will be Ok. |

So sorry. prayers for Marlee's quick recovery |
I am so very sorry to hear this. Keeping Marlee and your family in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |
Oh no! I would ask the vet to give her Denamarin, a liver protectant... and frequent doses of Lactulose (if she's liver compromised, it may stop the seizures). Has she ever been Bile Acid Tested? (not to do now) I'd call the vet and discuss this with him immediately. Keeping your baby in my prayers... |
Oh my goodness that is so terribly tragic. These little guys can be so very busy sometimes and things can happen so quickly. You and your family and Marlee are in our prayers. |

Thank you for the info. Marlee is unable to have anything oral right now as she may aspirate it. I have this info to ask about when we go back in the morning. |
I sit here holding Marlee, and the tears just flow…I am praying for a miracle. We brought her home tonight, with a ‘guarded prognosis’. She is not responding well to the valium and muscle relaxant, they have given her two doses of phenobarbital, which seems to help her rest. With mycotoxin poisoning, it could be 24-48 hours, or even longer. They feel that she likely has brain damage as she won’t hold her head up and turns it to the side. I keep thinking for a little 6.2 lb dog, she has had a lot of meds! I am going to be hopeful and know that she can be healed. Our instructions were to keep Marlee still, warm and quiet. So I sit here in my dark living room with my light of my Christmas tree...praying and softly singing her lullabies. She had one seizure since we have been home (it was about 11:45 PST). It was a moderate one and lasted about 15 minutes. I have her wrapped in her favorite pink minky blanket and she is sleeping in my arms. I am hoping to catch a little sleep...I cannot begin to tell you how much your prayers mean ti me, thank you from the bottom of my heart! |
we are adding our prayers. So very sorry that you are going thru this. Hugs. |

Denamarin or a similar product helps to rid the liver of toxins, and helps the liver to regenerate. It had been tested on dogs who were fed toxic mushrooms and the dogs survived, with no permanent liver damage. A dog can function with only 1/4 of it liver working properly, and the liver regenerates itself... quicker with Denamarin. These products are by prescription and are not expensive, and will not hurt her. My skin daughter takes Lactulose as needed (she has a seizure disorder and other conditions I won't get into now) and I have seen it prevent her from seizing, and I have used it to bring her out of a seizure. My dear friend was a nurse and contracted Hepatitis. We were discussing our pups (my Tink has Liver Shunt) and I mentioned Denamarin, and she was shocked.... that is what her doctor recommended she take to help support her liver. Denamarin is considered a 'nutraceutical' as opposed to a 'drug'. They assist the body in normal functioning. Valium is a drug that is given for seizures (my DD takes this also) but it works by limiting the neuromuscular responses, hence she still has seizures, just her muscles are inhibited from moving as much. Valium also decreases bowel motility, so the toxins she needs to get rid of will stay in her system longer. To stop the seizures the toxins have to be eliminated from her system. These two products assist the body in doing that quicker, limiting damage caused by the seizures. I am not a vet, (I am a retired Vet Tech), but after prolonged care of my DD (29 years) and my LS dog (3 years), I swear by these products and will not ever go without them. I pray for you and your baby, and that God gives your vets the help they need to get her through this... |
We are praying and checking back for updates. |
PS: She may or may not have brain damage, don't assume that bc she cannot hold her head up that she does. Seizures are quite severe and leave one's muscles feeling like cooked spaghetti.... very limp. Add mega doses of Vallium to the seizure activity and that will make muscles limp, as it is used also as a muscle relaxant. |
Sending up prayers for Marlee, sorry that she is going through this and I can't imagine how you are hurting...(((HUGS))) |
sending prayers your way |
Prayers still continue for Marlee. |
Just reading this now. Poor little girl. Glad you took her to the vet as fast as your could. And I agree with the other posts. My husband has epilepsy (he's "grown out of it" now) but I know when he would have a seizure, hiw whole body would ache and he'd barely be able to stand. So she may just be so exhausted to not be able to hold her little head high. Please take that into consideration as well. Sending lots of prayers your way. |
Prayers going up for wee little Marlee Grace as well as for her people. Please keep us updated. |
Continued prayers for Marlee Grace. God hears every one of our prayers. Bless her little heart. As I read your post, I could not help but feel the strong love you have for your little girl. I know your heart aches with worry and sadness. You are such a good mamma and I know she felt your love and comfort when you were holding her and singing to her. Oh, how that touched my heart. I think KJC's advice is good advice. I have also heard good things about the two meds that she mentioned. I had a cat that was given Denamarin for her liver and it helped her so much. Maybe I shouldn't say this, but if your vet is hesitant about this treatment, could you find another vet? It is definitely worth a try. |
