I'm New Here. Am I Welcome or Shunned? Hello, I do not have a Yorkshire Terrier. I have a Yorkshire Terrier mix, though. She's a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Maltese. Yes, she was purposely bred, and yes her breeders are excellent people. I was sure to thoroughly check them out before buying her, including a viewing of their home and breeding area. Both parents are AKC and health and temperament tested. Thus far, I'm not having much luck with finding a decent forum where people don't shun me due to having what they call a "designer dog". So...before I show my friendliness (which I've attempted to at several other sites already and was basically stoned to death), I would like to first know if I will be welcomed here, or if once again I need to go through an obstacle course of rude people due to the fact that I own a Morkie. Thank you in advance. lol S |
I know several members here own Morkies and I feel sure they aren't shunned :(..welcome to YT:) Would love to see pics of your baby. |
Like Jadabug said, there are several ppl here who own mixed breeds as well as breeds other than Yorkies, I've never noticed them being shunned or treated with disrespect for that reason. Anyway, glad to have you and hope you enjoy the site, which I think is the best of the Yorkie forums. Welcome to the YT family. |
We love Morkies too! I have a friend that is a member here, here Yorkie passed away 3 months ago and now she has 2 Morkie boys. Welcome to YT. |
Welcome. Glad you are here!! |
Welcome!!!! |
Welcome to YT!! We would love to see pics of your baby!!! :) |
welcome to YT i dont care what breed u have as long as you love ur furkids! that is the most important thing to me not what color dog u have. lol |
Welcome. I am fairly new and adopted my Chorkie (Yorkie and Chichula) mix from our local Humane Sociey. This forum has been friendly, informative, and I have enjoyed it very much. They helped me determine what my Yorkie was probably mixed with. You I'll like it here. |
I personally believe a single drop of Yorkie blood does an attitude make :D I think you will find us a friendly group, here( for the most part :p). Unless you are a BYB or animal abuser or any other form of lowlife  Welcome to Yorkie talk ~ where we talk about much more than only Yorkies but our dogs are treated better than most children ;) |
WELCOME! Would love to see pics! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk, looking forward to seeing pics of your furbutt. |
Welcome aboard! Lot's of great people here. My Carlo was part Yorkie! |
Welcome! sophie and Ziggy are both Morkies! |
Thank you very much for the warm welcome, I'm happy to be here, now. lol In regard to pictures, I stink with a camera, but she's on my avatar and in my profile. =) I'll try to get more of her. Questions: Her fur is gorgeous. I'm wondering if the coloring will change much when her adult hair grows in? How do I get her to sit still for putting on bows? I figured out she doesn't mind T-shirts, but hates outfits. Is there any way I can get her to accept them? I won't use them if she continues to be deadset against them...but I'd like to have the option of teaching her that they're okay to wear. :) She growls at her toys...is this normal? She'll latch onto her teddy bear, drag it around the room, yank her tiny little head back and forth vigorously like she's attempting to shake it to death, and growls at it....isn't that hurting her little neck?? Thank you again for the welcome! |
Welcome!! |

You may try using treats to get her to sit still for her hair bows.... good luck there. I don't use bows on Jack but when his hair was longer, I would use a clip to keep it out of his eyes. Not sure what to tell you about the clothes either - Jack will tolerate a t-shirt, only if its very cold outside. He hates his jammies and coats.... The growling, yanking and shaking her head back and forth with her toys is I believe a Yorkie trait. Yorkies were bred to hunt rats many years ago and I believe the shaking of their heads back and forth was a way for them to kill the rats... not 100% certain on this, but it makes sense to me. Good luck to you! Can't wait to see more photos of your little one. |
Welcome. Color depends on her genes. It took awhile for Sissy to get use to having bows put in her hair (she still isn't fond of it and will rub her head on the floor in an attempt to remove it). Bubba "kills" his toys, Sissy just can't be bothered with getting off the couch. Each one is different-I just can't compare wither one with my Bichon who has long since passed. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. We live next door to a Morkie that is the sweetest little thing on earth. Hope you enjoy it here - the wealth of knowledge some people on this forum have is a great help if you have questions or an emergency. |
Welome to YT.:) I hope no one throws stones. I've always heard they'll come back to you!:D |
we are not here to judge any kind of dogs, even though the forum says "Yorkie talk", I'm sure all kinds of dogs are welcome here! =D Morkies are adorable and I would love to see pictures of your little one. ;) Welcome to YT, and hope you enjoy being here, just as much as we'll enjoy having you! ;D :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Hello and welcome! I am sorry you were shunned on other forums. On this forum you will find varied opinions on the purposely breeding of mixed breeds. No one on here faults anyone who wants a mixed breed or has one but they have an issue that breeders are purposely breeding them when there are so many mixed breeds at shelters. The reason why I am telling you this is some thread will come up and this will be discussed and I hope you dont take offence or think your dog is thought of less here because it is a mixed breed because it is the breeders that some including me take offence to. |
Welcome. I love all furbabies. I am just a dog lover period. |
I think many of us her are just pet lovers in general! A morkie is more than welcome!! Welcome to YT! We are glad you are here!! :) |

Hi, and Welcome!!! :) You'll have to wait and see if there is any changes in her fur as she grows, because that all depends on her genes. To get her to sit still you will definitely have to make putting bows in her hair a routine thing (so she can get used to it)... and also it takes training too!! But most importantly just be patient with her... REALLY patient! & once you get it in praise her, when she doesn't wiggle around praise her, and when she doesn't try to take it out praise her!!! If you want her to wear outfits I'd say you'll have to be consistant in putting them on her, and praise her when she doesn't try to take it off!! (see training them is easy all it takes is some patience, consistency, and LOTS of praising :D, but be careful or she'll be the one training you ;)) && don't worry about the shaking... its the yorkie side of her . Good luck!! Oh and we LOVE pictures!!! |

I believe that's a normal behavior of dogs, my yorkies do the same, they growl at some toys, bite them, grabs them by the neck and shakes them. LOL that's natural... don't worry. Now, about the clothes, if she doesn't like it, then it'll be tough to force her to wear it, my little Lisa [R.I.P] hated clothes & bows, so I had to just deal with it... my little Belle is the opposite of Lisa, she loves dressing up and wearing bows! |
For sure you are welcome. IN terms of shaking the toy, so very typical of Yorkies. And the growling that accompanies it. |
Welcome! I think Morkies are adorable! |
Welcome to YT to you and your baby :) |
