close call for Sedrick
 
We had a close call for our little guy last night - actually a little too close for comfort. After hearing all the bad things about raw hide and greenies and the problems they can cause I decided to try Doogan and Sedrick on bully sticks. Little Sedrick was laying on the floor happily chewing away on the stick when all of a sudden he looked like he was having a seizure - he was shaking uncontrollably and then ran over to his bed. I ran over to him and he was gagging and not able to breathe so I yelled to my husband to pick him up fast while I stuck my finger down his throat. It took me three tries to dislodge a 4 inch piece of bully stick from his throat and I think the only thing that helped was Sedrick heaving his stomach at the same time as me sticking my finger down. Poor little guy was pretty scared after that not to mention his poor mommy and daddy!! I am happy to say that five minutes later he was running around and playing with Doogan and eating our homemade treats!!

I am glad he is okay. Ceeby got a piece of kibble stuck in his little throat when he was about nine weeks old. I grabbed him up and whacked him (gently) on the sides of his stomach right where I could feel his ribs. it came flying out and he was fine. I am a retired nurse and have been taught to NEVER stick my finger down a person, especially baby or child, to dislodge something unless you can see it. You might push it farther down and really choke them. I would say in my limited yorkie knowledge that this would apply to yorkies also. I nearly freaked out the other day when someone posted their yorkie had gotten choked and someone couldn't get it out but pushed it on down. Lucky for that little dog that it worked that time. I was so glad that dog was alright. Maybe they are more resilient than I think.

OMG you saved his LIFE !! Thank God you were right there !! This could so easily happen to all of us - I always give mine treats like that after we eat and I'm sitting right there....after reading this - maybe their days of Bully Sticks are over....

i give lexi 12 inch bully sticks, so it cant get lodged in her throat, when
it gets small like 4-6 inches, i throw them out....

That is probably smart.....there is just nothing that is 100% safe.
