What does it mean when... Your dog lifts his leg while looking at you and pees on the kitchen cabinet? Yes this is what Peanut did!! I have no idea how to discipline this! It seems like he did it on purpose, I mean why else would he look at me?? |
What did you do while he was "in the process?" |
Well .. I said Peanut "NO" he didn't stop |
I"m thinking possible insubordination because Peanut's very upset with you over something  or maybe "look at me mama, I don't feel good" :(. |
Yikes, have you got any new furniture or any new guests in the house? If not it sounds like he is trying you, not sure why though...I know when I first brought Prissy home that Yoshi hiked his leg on my sofa skirt right in front of me the next day..Well I said no and put him outside and he hasn't done it since. |
Nope- no new anything. I must say he isnt 99.9% potty trained he still has accidents, but the way he did it was shocking! I don't know what to do with this dog, he is 4 years old he should know where to go potty!! To dicipline them for potty in the house don't you have to catch them in the act- has anyone tried squirt bottles, he apparently isn't scared of me lol |
Has he been under any undue stress, or have you? Dogs can sense when we are going through things. Dogs mark to show ownership and a sense of belonging. You were probably too shocked at the time, but if you can’t say "no" while he's doing it, it's best not to discipline him afterwards. Their memory isn't that long; he'll have no idea why you are upset. |
:eyetearss I believe this is a milder version of "Piss on You!" :lol tears I am sorry, but I almost choked, from my side of the monitor it is hilarious. But from yours I'm sure it isn't. I would call this attention getting behavior and  it worked. Why he is doing it isn't nearly as important as how you react. I would remove him to his "timeout" place, clean up the mess, wipe the counter and floor with white vinegar and then take Peanut back to the exact spot and tell him "NO" in a firm voice and then take him to his regular potty place and give praise. I would repeat this several times today to "remind" him. He will remember the scent and start to associate the vinegar smell with do not peepee here! |
:eyetearssChattiesmom... you crack me up :D |

That’s my problem I don’t think I react very well. When I do find pee on the floor it is always to late, so I cant do much to him. He does see me cleaning in up and I know he knows. Peanut gets all the attention in the world, I am not sure why he would want more.. What is a good “time out” place? I have his pack n play, he goes in that in the day when I am gone at work, he also has his crate that he sleeps in, he loves both of those so I don’t want to put him in there for time out- then he might not like them as much… I will def buy some white vinegar tonight and clean that area, What is a good cleaning product to use to clean up pee? Is it just the white vinegar, or like the distilled white vinegar? |
When my boys act up... They have to go to time out! I know it sounds ridiculous, but they KNOW I'm not happy.... Why peanut did that though.....hmmmmm no clue!! |

Harry did this a few months back, in my mum's house, against a kitchen unit!! Never before - been house-trained for months - but he did this too! I caught him mid-pee and picked him up - he was still going!!! :( Took him outside and he finished off in his normal place. I did the really sharp 'NO' during the whole fiasco - and praised him for going in the right place. I was practically stroking the bird-bath with praise!! :D I know a lot of people have had great success with the squirt-bottle. Harry being Harry sits there with his mouth open waiting for his next drink - strange boy! :) Think a lot of diligence at the mo and catching him 'in the act' is the way to go. Good luck! All I can say is take him out more often...I think that's what Peanut is trying to tell you. lollll Momo lifts his leg when he pees, so I have a water bottle wrapped w/pee paper propped up on top of their pee pad against the wall in the bathroom. He always goes there, it's kinda like his 'post'. |
Nicky did this after me being positive he had gotten the "outside for potty" instructions. I narrowed down most of the reasons I think this happened...Some times it was something that scared him in the backyard, like the crazy winds we get up here (once it turn a large glass table upside down). Other times it was just too unbelievably cold outside, or he was sick. One time Nicky did the same your baby did; he looked at me, lifted his leg and did it right there. I said 'no, baby, no' and I carried him outside while he continued to wee-wee and leaving a trail behind. I realized that when he goes #2 outside, I make a party and I wasn't doing the same thing when he went #1. So I started to do an even bigger party when he went wee-wee as well. Now he goes out for potty even in the freezing rain ;) Poor baby, he shakes when he returns cold and wet :( I used the spray bottle on a neighbor's large doggie, once. He kept escaping the neighbor's house, coming over and wee-weeing on my two little ones in the face (Nini caught an eye infection). My other neighbor yelled at me not to do that, but I was already feeling like a monster after I done it...I don't know why  Point is, the water spray didn't work on my neighbor's doggie, he still escapes at least 3x a month and wee-wees on my babies. And praise did work wonders on Nicky :D I hope you find the way  |

Well Dh made a potty area for Pnut, he bought a semi large kennel and stuck it against on of our side doors and we keep the door open so he can go in and out- we thought this would work- lol for the most part it does, but he does still have accidents! |

I have had simular situation.... cant help but wonder why they do it. A quick correction and right off to the appropriate potty area works well. As far as where to put him in a time out that can be hard. I do use my cage for time outs but only when they have not been too harshly reprimanded vocaly or they will like you say associate that area in a bad light. I have some useful tips on my site that might be helpful including the shaker can. Dawn's Yorkies / Yorkie Puppies / For Sale, Ohio |

Ah thank you, I will check out your website! It is so frustrating to deal with, and I know a lot of it is my fault bc I am not good at disciplining him. We had some rain too a couple days ago- he will not go in the rain, nor if the ground is wet!! I think I just have to put my game face on and get serious!! No more Nice Mommy!! LoL. I am going to clean the floors, get a squirt bottle and can of pennies, and try to really watch him- take him out randomly every half hour and make sure he goes!! I will need to figure out where a good time out spot is.. I guess I can only use the time out when I catch him in the act.. right? If I come across pee it is too late? The crazy thing is if I am watching him like a hawk he will be sooooo good not one accident, but when I start lacking he has accidents. Then I think about it.. am I going to have to watch him like a hawk 24/7 or will he ever be 100% LOL That’s the million dollar question I guess. |

I'm glad I didn't offend you! :D I would not use his crate or his pack-n-play for timeout. Maybe put him in a bathroom and close the door (with lights on of course). I would just use the white vinegar on the peepee. It will clean AND nutralize the odor PLUS leave an acid scent behind which you can substitute as your pee. What you are telling Peanut is that it is your cabinet, not his. |

I remember one time, he lifted his tiny leg & was going to pee by the corner of the bathroom entrance. I ran over saying 'No! No! bad boy' & w/out hesitating, I cupped my hand under & collected his pee! |

Then DH bought a large dog kennel and stuck it against the door. We have like a French door and it has a door in the middle and then to little side doors, those just open with a screen . Dh used one side and cut the screen to make a little door so he can go in and out and be protected. He loves it- he has a little grass and little concrete, and he loves to lift his leg all over it! He was doing pretty good, till it rained the other day. I think that is what started this whole thing! DH needs to get like a tarp to put on it when it rains… So that’s where we are at. I know he knows that is where he goes, he knows how to get out ( when we are home the door is always open) I think he just gets lazy or something- Who really knows what goes on in these spoiled yorkies head!! Haha! |

Beleive me that day will come . . It will take some time and a lot lot of training and being right on him every minute. I would not hesitate to put his little butt out there in the rain and wet ground. If not you are creating a bigger problem in the long run. I did with all four of mine. At this age when they are still learning guess where you will be? Right out in the rain with them. I just set up a patio umbrella right outside my door and always took a flashlight with me at night so I knew exactly where they were and if they went potty or poo. If they didn't go, they went right into the cage. Than out a few minuites later, even if I had to do it 2*3 times. Whatever it took to get them to go potty outdoors and not in my home. You may also want to read the part about the proper cage set up. |
He Peed Where ? I know ! It is like OMG Hello ! I am right here ! When Rubin lifted a leg and marked the stack of clean towels; I just forgot everything I teach, I stomped my foot and screeched at him, " RUBBBBBBBBBIN !! What the Heck is wrong with You ?!! Have you lost your mind ?!! He cringed and ran to his crate. The other dogs stopped playing. For a micro second they were in a primitive terror freeze. Just like ancient dogs of long ago used to freeze, when a saber tooth tiger roared at them. They blinked off the fearfull trance and ran to me, licking and jumping in a frenzy of doggy comfort. They were doing a canine version of "it's going to be ok, there, there, just calm down" . I felt so embarrassed, even if the Yorkies were the only witnesses, to see my moment of crazy. Rubin never marked clean towels again. Maybe he was traumatized. I just don't know. But, I do not advise you stomp a foot like it is on fire or scream like a bee stung banshie. My throat was sore for two days, not to mention my shattered illusion of self control. That was several years ago and this is the first time I have been brave enough to tell the whole, truth ... I hope you still respect me in the morning. :D |
