Neuter and dental at the same time? has anyone had this done? |
We did a spay/liver biopsy/dental. Combining procedures is fine although some vets won't do it. If pup is sick and going under anesthesia to save its life, that is a bit different - obviously no dental should be done. healthy dog being neutered and having a dental - perfectly fine. They will do the procedures in order of importance. If at any time during the process he reacts poorly to anesthesia, they will stop and skip the less important things. |

Peanut had his neuter/ pulled puppy teeth out. If he is healthy I would do it at the same time.. neuters don't take all that long if the testies are intact.. if not it could take a little longer. |
He has one puppy tooth that needs pulled. How long does the dental take? They need cleaned but aren't too bad. |
After the pup is under, neuters usually take less than ten minutes (if testicles are descended). Pulling a baby tooth takes a couple minutes (usually). Cleaning time varies, but should take less than a half hour. I would do it all or he will have to go back under in the near future for the dental. |
Yes def get everything you can in one shot- and get them to trim his nails while his under! Peanut hates his nails cut.. so on his dentals they always make sure they cut them really short!! |

I agree that I'd rather it all be done at once if possible. |

Beemer could have used a dental when he was neutered last month. My vet wouldn't do them together. He said something about the dental releasing bacteria and not wanting to do that with an open surgery. I've been going to him forever and I trust him so I Just had to go with what he wanted. When Sadie was spayed he did pull baby teeth but he said that was different. I'm not saying not to do it, this is just my vets opinion. Beemer will go back in a couple of months for his dental. |
Hot Rod was 6 1/2 mos old and had dental at the same time of his neuter. Just make sure to get pain meds just in case. Our vet didn't send us home with any and I wish I had some for him. |

I wonder if I'll have to keep Sophie away from him? |

after dexter got his neuter though, we were having a hard time stopping him playing the night after it- he was trying to get everyone to play zoomie-tag! he also had quite an extensive dental done at the same time- 3 (adult) teeth pulled, a complete cleaning, and deep tissue injections into his gums. i need to point out that the state of his mouth () was Not my fault- i was given him like that, but he's awesome now! so don't you worry; he'll be grand, and back to his old self in no time (be that a good or bad thing ;))! |

Sophie was spayed at 8 months so I was in no hurry. She was a breeze except for a small bump of fluid down there that went away on it's own. I'm glad to hear that he did so well. Ziggy is suppose to go in on 12/23. I'll be a mess from now until it's over. |

The injection was for the major gum infection the neglect had caused; as far as i understand, it had to be injected downwards in the gum- right beside the jaw. Yet when I collected him that evening after everything that had been done, he still kissed the vet nurse who handed him back to me! |

Ziggy's always been on dry food and his aren't that bad so hopefully he won't need the injection. They will be giving an antibiotic thank goodness. How funny that the age is about the same!:) That makes me feel better! He must be a sweetie, still giving kisses after being put through all that! |

Dexx was close to having a jaw bone infection, that's why the injection was so intense. But Ziggy having the antibiotic jab won't even register with him by the time he wakes up! |
