i need to find a way to get over Rusty and a new dog is probably not the answer. Ruty's little face looked just like a purebred Yorkie. missing him has got me wanting that again. :( |

I know that it is a common belief that neutering early helps to prevent the males from marking, but research is not bearing out that belief. Nor does it help with aggression. I have posted links before to research that seems to point in this direction. Some females also mark as well. The only way and even that is not 100% guaranteed is to train your dog not to mark in the house, just like you train them not to urinate. The only time I have a problem with Razz inside, is if my female is in heat. Then I watch him like a hawk, and if I can't he is either crated, or wears a belly band. My other male does not mark in the house, even with Zoey in heat. Both are un-neuteured males. I agree with Nancy, regular exercise and walking outside does allow for the dogs to happily mark every tree if they so desire. Plus exercising is such a boon to their physical, mental, and emotional health. There is a saying which I've found to be true: " A tired pup is a good pup". If they have had lots of physical and mental stimulation, they usually relax or shall I say poop out happily at home for the evening. My Razz although only 6.5 lbs can easily keep up with my BRT's who are about 80 and 120 lbs respectively. We hike for hours particularly in the summer. The only thing I need to do differently for Razz, is put warm winter wear on him for the cold months. And even in summer he can't swim for as long as our double coated Blackies who adore keeping cool in the water even if the outside temp is only 65 degrees. But I just make him come out of the water and warm up in the hot sun, and in about 20 to 30 minutes he is good to go again. |
Just throwing my opinion in!!! :D Of every dog I've ever had - male and female - Harry has been the easiest to house train. Extreme diligence was the key, and he was clean within a couple of weeks. Good luck with your decision! :) Sally + Harry x |

So just make sure you're ready. This site is great for support, we're here if you need to talk :) but to address the subject, my male has been very easy to housetrain. I think it really just depends on the dog and the training it receives. |

Thanks everyone for the great info and advice! I'm going to give it some more time. I think if I do ever get another one, it will be a little purebred Yorkie boy. While I'm going thru this healing process, I'm going to continue spoiling Ziggy and sophie and loving them, as well as Leo and Ella ( my Labs) and my family & friends, like there's no tomorrow! |
I filed a complaint with the Attorney Generals office against the emergency vet clinic that I took Rusty to the day he died. I won my case! All I asked for was to get my money back because of the way I was yelled at and blamed for Rusty's condition and sent out the door to my vet with no treatment. My vet is on the board there and spoke up for me, thank goodness. I could have sued them for all the bills and loss of Rusty but I didn't have the energy. I just got my check in the mail tonight! I know it won't bring Rusty back but I feel like I got some justice for him! I hope no one ever gets treated like I did at that clinic again! |

No, no they are not. I beleive they are easier because they crave attention, praise, pleasing you more than females-but I'm a dog gender racists.:p |
My Brodo was spoof easy to potty train. He always let's me know when he needs to go. Sissy on the other hand, goes when and where she happens to be. I take her out when I take Brodo though so we don't have many mishaps. And for the record, Brodo taught Sissy all the wonderful male things like marking ( thankfully he only marks outside) and of course humping. So Sissy marks her territory and tries to hump Brodo. Now if he could just teach her to tell me when she has to potty, and come to me when I call her..... |
