YT Addict | Need suggestions please Rylee Belle is one year old now and has always done her "business" on the pads in the house. Been pretty good.....has the odd accident here and there. I would really like to train her to go outside now.....we have an enclosed backyard (would never leave her out there by herself) and I would like her to be able to go out and do her business along with our chihuahua. When we let her out she will do it usually but how do you train them to go "only" outside so that we can get rid of the potty pads? Any suggestions are welcome!!!!!!!!

Put the pad by the back door....everytime she starts to go on it, be ready to quickly place her outside.

Maybe you could put a soiled pee pad in the area outside where you would like her to use. That way maybe she will get the scent from the used pee pad and use that spot. Good Luck!!

We used the pad (and still leave it out at night). While we have a small enclosed patio, Bailey doesn't like it. We walk him 2 or 3 times a day and praise him everytime he lifts his leg or squats. This way he and I get some exercise and he is doing all his biz outside. Knock on wood, he's not made a mistake in the house in weeks.

Yes, you can put a soiled one outside in the area or you can try moving the pad about a foot closer to the door you use to go out to the potty place. Leave it there for a week, then move a foot closer again. Gradually move it closer until you are right there at it. Then the next week move it to right outside that door. Keep doing this until it's setting where you want her to go. It's not fool proof, but I've had success with this method and have heard of many others who it worked for as well. Hope this helps and good luck!
