Just Found a Yorkie!! Need Help!! I just found a little female yorkie....she's maybe 3 lbs. I have a male yorkie 4 lbs. I took her to the vet to see if she had a microchip....no luck. I gave her a bath because she was a little dirty but seems to be taken care of. she's groomed. I'm not sure on her age but I'd say 1-3 years old. I looked on cragslist to see if any adds have been placed....and checked the gas stations up the street for flyers. I been checking lost dog adds online. I am going to put a flyer up at a few places later today but wanted to see if anyone had advice on where else to look for her owner. I even drove around with her looking for people looking for her. |
You might try your local police station or if you have a local humane society, just to check to see if anyone reported a missing yorkie. I know I would be frantic if mine were ever lost. Thank you so much for looking for her owners. I would be eternally grateful to you for returning mine to me. |
I'll do that, thanks. I don't know what I would do if I lost my little guy, I am going to do my very best to find her owners. |
i assume she has no tags on, perhaps go to the town hall of the city you found her. she may be registered, but they might be able to help. |
Bless you for trying to find the owner. Check this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/mis...ir-owners.html Hope you find the owner soon - and hope they get the little one microchipped! Please, check out this too to help YHR http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...-help-yhr.html |
Just called the SPCA they have no reports of her missing. It's so sad, she is such a sweet little girl. |

found little yorkie I would ask for proof of ownership before giving her to someone that makes claims to own her.. many dogfighting rings get their bait dogs this way...(found ads) also the "free to good homes" adds in the paper or on the side of the road... if they are the owner, they will have photos and/or vet bills for her... roxanne |
Bless her! Poor little thing, but that is great of you to take her in and take care of her. I hope you can find the owner. I would be so sick if I lost Katie Scarlett! I was thinking to check with the local police station, vets, humane society too. Good luck! |
I would be going nuts, frantic trying to find my babies ! I cant imagine that there are no lost Yorkie reports. If you do put up ads or any type of advertising I would not put pacific things about her on it. I would not list her size, weight or color. Be sure that whom ever contacts you has to identify her instead of just taking the information right off of the flyer. I would hate to see her get into the wrong hands. Or to someone just looking for a free Yorkie ! |
Years ago, we found a beautiful husky. You could see that he was very well taken care of but he had no collar or ID. So I put an ad in the paper for the next day and I also called my vets office. That night a woman called because the vet gave them my phone #. Her and her husband came to get him and you could tell they were the owners by the way the dog ran to them and kissed them. He had gotten out of the house because one of their doors wasn't closed all the way. They were so happy to be reunited with him. I refused a reward but they gave it to my boys. I was glad that they were back together again. They even gave me their address if we ever wanted to visit them. Maybe you could contact the vets in your area to see if anyone reported their dog missing. I'm sure the owners would be thrilled that their dog was found and being taken care of. Good luck! |
Oh, I hope you can re-unite her with her owner! Animal Control will take the report and tell you what to do. Good luck and thank you for looking after her. What a loving and caring kind thing to do for this poor little girl. |

If you put up flyers do not put pictures on it.... the owner should be able to describe the dog in detail. I found a dog a few months back and posted posters with just the dogs descriptions. I reunited the dog and owner within 3 hours. She described the dog, said it's name, and described the collar in detail. This will prevent someone trying to take the dog without proving they own it. |
So wonderful that you found her and she's not out in the cold of night. Good luck finding her home. |
We found the owner!! We put a flyer up at the gas station up the street that just said Lost dog, call with a description and show proof of ownership. She seen it when she was putting up her own flyer, she came to the house with pictures proving she was hers. She was crying and everything. It felt good to find the owner....her yorkie's name was cocoa which fit because she had chocolate coloring in her hair. She was also AKC registered. So happy!! :) |
Yay!!! Great job!!! |
 |
How wonderful that you took her in and able to reunite her with her family. When our Tana wandered off (she couldn't see or hear well anymore), I was beside myself with worry and immensely grateful for the kind lady took her in and returned her to us. My girls are now microchipped, but getting our furbabies back ultimately depends on the heart of those they wander upon. ;) |
2 Attachment(s) Here is a couple pictures of her with my Bandit....she is the smaller one. |
That's great! I am sure she was pleased that she was in the care of someone who knew yorkies and knew how to care for her. |

Definitely call around to local animal shelters and also local vets. I know they'll probably get a call if someone is looking for her. I'd also make your posters vague just in case someone is looking for a cheap puppy. :( Also agreeing with the proof of ownership before handing her over! Glad you found her though and that she has a nice warm place to stay! |
The same thing happened to me on 8/6/11. I already have a wonderful Yorkie, Bailey. He is now two. My son's girlfriend found the stray Yorkie. I had her do posters, the vet, ride around the neighborhood, call the shelters, no microchipping. No luck. I called shelters, no kill, they did not want him. I was busy calling places when my son's friend arrived with him.I took one look at him and said he was mine. I took him to the vet, had to neuter him, shots and teeth cleaning. He was very under weight and appeared he was abused. He is house broken. The vet said he is four. Bailey is two. I named him Benny. He has turned out to be a wonderful dog. We just love him. He gets along just fine with Bailey. The best we can tell, someone did not want him, did not feed him, and put him out on the street. The economy is so bad, people are just dumping their dogs. Yes, even wonderful Yorkies. The no kill shelters are filled and or want a "shot record". They said the dog had to be released by the owner. I never "rescued" a dog before. Always bought puppies with long lines so I knew what I got. Well, I took a chance and went with my heart. I now have two wonderful Yorkies and am very happy. It feels very good to have saved this wonderful dog's life. The vet gave me discounts on his services. He rescues dogs too. Try to find the owner, we did for days, but, if it fails, think about what happened to me. |
What a great story. I am so glad this furbaby is reunited with his family |
tatertot15I couldn't help but notice the Yorkie is keeping it's head low no eye contact almost appears to cowering without knowing you can see which dog appears to be lost, confused and scared. You did such a good deed! How happy was Coco to see her mom? |
Oh my goodness! This story just makes me so happy!! Today when I was at the vets office, a woman came in with an elderly lady whose Yorkie was missing. She said he'd been missing for two days. They were going around to anywhere they could think of to see put out contacts in case someone found a Yorkie. My heart went out to her. She came over to say hi to Peyton and Sophia and showed me pictures of her "Buddy." I told her I'd be praying for him. So, if you can...please say a prayer that Buddy finds his way home. His momma is missing him. I wanted to add that it made me happy that this sweet elderly lady had someone with her (perhaps a neighbor?) who was willing to take her around to look for her dog. That was a sweet thing to do. She said to me on the way out, "I'm so glad you are here today...she needed a little Yorkie fix." |
Kudos to you for doing the right thing and finding the owner. This story just makes my heart sing and restores my faith in people. :) |
Isn't this just the greatest story? I'm so thankful a real Yorkie-lover found her and worked so hard to reunite this darling little girl with her mommie. I wish every one that found a stray dog was as responsible and dedicated to helping the dog and its owner get together again as you. That lady should be eternally grateful to you. Job very well done!!! |
Awwww..I just LOVE happy yorkie endings!!!:D |
