I think I saved Amara's life.
 

Saturday November 5th Amara was attacked by a pit bull. The dog came out of nowhere. She has a cut in her mouth and she cannot walk on her left front paw. She has a bite mark on her chest where her front paw and her leg are together. The dog sniffed her at first and proceeded to clamp down on her throat. I was screaming histerically for the female pit not to hurt her. But the dog didn't care. The dog was snapping and snarling while clamped down on my little baby. I summoned up my courage and charged the dog and shoved her off of Amara. Amara ran away and the dog went after her again. I shoved the dog again and gathered Amara up into my arms. I ran back into my aunts house and told them what happened. Because of my screaming they came to the door. I was in shock. I walked to get Amara's crate to lay her down in and clean her bites and scratches. I called the police and they came and they found the dogs owner. I was in Abbeville when all of this happened. I am now back in Greenville. Amara's arm is hurt and she cannot walk on it. The police told me to watch her closely or take her to the vet. My mom says we're taking her to get checked out. I have been hand feeding Amara and taking her outside to potty with extreme caution. I am now more aware of my surroundings. Somewhat I feel this is my fault. Completely my fault. If only I had been more aware. :( My baby would not be hurt.

I hope her injuries aren't too bad. Let us know how she is doing. Don't blame yourself, you didn't know it was going to happen.

Poor baby!! Great job on getting her to safety, but I would have her vet checked asap!! You never know how bad these little ones may be hurting!!

How terrible for you both. I hope she checks out ok at the vet. You really want to get dog bites/punctures checked out as quickly as possible since they can become infected easily.

Oh, my gosh! Get your baby to the vet and have those wounds properly cared for. She probably needs to be on antibiotics as bite wounds are full of germs. The pit has to be quarantined, too.

I am a pitbull LOVER. And what would have made me mad is that the pitbull's owner allowed this. Was the pitbull off leash? He/she was obviously poorly socialized. I specialize in this breed, and they are by nature animal/dog aggressive especially when not properly socialized and consistently worked with. I Love pits but would never all Maci to play with one that was more than just a tiny puppy :/ It's ignorant owners that help these dogs get a bad rap for situations like this. It's sad!

I'm glad Amara is okay as far as alive, def get her to the vet to look at her wounds and leg. Praying she is okay!

What a horrible experience for you and Amara to go through. I know the poor baby must be traumatized. I'm glad you called the police. They need to know what happened.

I'm sorry your dog was attacked. It's very scary when that happens.

I do hope you brought her to a vet before you posted this. She needs to be treated for infection, trauma, shock, and possible broken bones if she's not using her leg. She could also have internal damage done to her neck and chest area.

You really need to get her to the vet as soon a possible like now!

Amara needs to be seen by a vet immediately for possibly internal injuries or broken bones. Dog bites need to be taken care of with an antibiotic and any puncture wounds need to be addressed as well. If she has a puncture in her chest she could have a Pneumothorax. Please get your little one medical help NOW :(

How scary OMG:eek: I'm glad that you are okay, and that Amara appears to be okay so far. Please do take her to the vet ASAP, there could be internal injuries that you cannot see and you won't see any symptoms until it's too late to help her.

Wow I am so sorry to here this, I know you had to have been scared! This is not your fault how could you have known? Don't blame yourself. My heart goes out to you and your poor baby, I hope she makes a full recovery.

I have nothing against pit bulls (what beautiful animals) but it's a whole other story when they are in the hands of " Irresponsible " owners. Most states have strick regulations about pit bulls running freely and being muzzled while in public. The owner should be held accountable !

Dont for a minute think that you did anything wrong. . .

I would take your gal to the vet to be totaly 100% sure she is ok!

The suspense is killing meeee! I hope she is doing good... when there's long pauses to reply I always assume the worst :/ but hoping for the best!!

How is amara??

Amara is all right everyone. Her wounds aren't too bad and they told me to keep an eye on her leg to see if she starts to heal ok. But I am to take her back in a couple of days. I bathed her tonight to try and relieve some stress with some soothing dog shampoo and conditioner. She's asleep right beside me right now. Her leg still hurts so she carries it in the air still. But I have antibiotics and I cleaned her little wounds. They are not too bad. Just where the dog attempted to kill her. I reacted in time I guess. But she's ok. I cuddle her alot and we sit at home and watch tv. Cartoons and stuff. I take her outside in her little crate in the evenings to watch the sunset and the cars go by. She still tries to protect me and bark at people when they get within walking distance of me. I love her to death. Will keep everyone updated. Sorry it took me so long. I'm still in shock. But she is ok. I just have to keep a close eye on her. Will post more later.

It means alot that alot of people responded. I needed the support. I've been in shock for days. My hubby told me she is alright and comforted me alot. He's a big help. But She's alright. Resting alot. I keep her laying down and well nourished. I treat her very well and she may get a piece of chicken. A small piece as a little snack. But she is just mainly resting. Until she potties or tries to follow me. It makes me sad when she does. I try to stay beside her because she wines and will jump down to follow me. I'm going to put her to bed soon but I am just letting her rest beside me right now. Thanks guys. Hope everyone and their babies are doing ok.

Did they do an X-ray on get limp leg? So glad to here she is okay poor baby! Glad you got her to the vet and away from the dog in time! :) prayers and thoughts are for you!

No they didn't. They're pretty sure its not broken. They say more likely sore from the trauma. like spranged. I'm going to take her back in though.

I'm sorry but if my dog was holding up a leg and not using it I would DEMAND my vet do an x-ray. "they don't think its broken?" I don't care what they "think", I'd want proof. An x-ray takes all of 30 seconds to do and will determine if the leg is broken or not. What if you don't have an x-ray done and after a week or two she still isn't using it? then you go to get an x-ray and they realize it IS broken and has been broken since she was attacked. Now you and your vet have let this poor little dog suffer for weeks because you "think" she is ok. And now you have a broken leg that hasn't been properly set or fixed immediately so it is starting to heal wrong. Plus the ends of the broken bone parts are no longer sharp because they've been grinding together so they won't fit back together perfectly. Most likely the leg will need surgery to fix because it was neglected and the surgery will probably be harder to do because its not a "fresh" injury.

Please do your dog a favor and take her to a proper vet to have an overall evaluation and leg x-ray done.
