Ok I'm really sorry if this is gross but I've never had a boy dog before and I worry about everything so here we go - Last night, Geno was humping my arm which he usually does before bedtime. Well when he's done, he starts to fall asleep on my arm, so I moved my arm. He woke up and started to hump air which he's never really done before. So I'm like, Geno you're so weird, and I lift him up so he was standing on his hind legs and oh my word....what I saw was not what I thought I'd see. He's never popped out before so when this happened, I was obviously incredibly surprised. Not only that but it looked weird. Like i've been around boy dogs before and my sister's dog ocassionally pokes in and out but Geno's business was all the way exposed. I was freaking out cause I thought I'd have to put it back. Like I'm sorry if I grossed anyone out but is this normal for a boy puppy? Like not popping out after humping and then all of a sudden you completely pop out!? It's like he hit puberty!!! Sorry if this post is crazy but I have to know! haha

It is normal to see mr peeker after humping. You shouldnt let him hump your arm though its setting a pattern and sometime your gonna have a guest in the house and hes gonna start humping them and Im sure you dont want that. Chachi has a stuffed bear that he is allowed to hump we call it his humpy bear hes had it since he was a pup

hahahah Obviously the trainer told us to not let him hump cause it's shown to be a dominance thing so letting him hump us, means he is trying to dominate us. We were slowly working on getting him to stop and then every time he did it, the spray bottles could never be found. It does actually calm him down and gets him tired at night so we just let him do it. We are hoping he'll end up cutting the habit after his neutering in two months. If not though, then we'll have to get back to spraying him with water.

Coutney, it is not a good idea to let your dog hump people. You are not his mate. You are in the parent role. When a dog becomes sexualy aroused and the penis comes out, that is normal, it will go back in when the excitment is over. At first he will be confused that you won't let him hump, say firm No and give him a back rub instead.

I know, I know. We can't let him do it. A trainer we went to at petsmart told us it's normal and ok if he humps. We thought that was really weird. When the trainer we ended up going with told us not to let him do it, we were like yeah that makes more sense.

We'll try being more firm with it and try doing belly rubs instead. Geno gets riled up when we discipline him so we have to find ways to calm him back down so hopefully a little belly rub or back rub will do the trick. It's weird though. He doesn't hump anyone else. Only one instance was when he was staying with my boyfriend's parents for the week. He started humping my boyfriend's mom and she told him no, this is a hump-free house. He did not do it again. Obviously, my boyfriend and I probably won't have it as easy. lol

You're silly! You don't wean him off that habit, you just stop it. If the humping doesn't bother you, remove your arm and replace it with a teddy bear or something more appropriate to hump. The longer you let him do it, especially to you, the harder it will be to break him of the habit.

I thought me play fighting with Kaji at night was weird. Play always makes my boy nice and tired. :)

Good point. We need to find him a little humpy toy. All his toys are too little right now. Does this make him think we're promoting humping though? I mean obviously it's natural for them to do it but will he get the idea that he can do it, just only to his toy, not to us? Or should we just nip it in the butt completely?

You can do it either way. I personally have your boyfriend's mom mentality. My house is a hump free zone! I don't like it, and it's not allowed. Period. My boy caught on quick. If it doesn't bother you, giving him a live toy will work. Others can attest to that. It's your choice. Stop him cometely, or give him a love toy.

Harry caught on extremely quickly, too - it's not difficult, it truly shouldn't be happening to your arm every night, and - in reality - it shouldn't be happening this frequently at all. Good luck! lmao! um, i let ziggy hump my arm too! its so bad i know! and i always start of saying no but it somehow becomes a Ok, but this is the last time. i feel bad for him coz he's not neautered! lol.. but i havent seen his lipstick come out! I am def going to stop! the people on here are right.. We should make a pact to be strong together and just say NO!!!!

Awe I'm glad I'm not the only one!!! lol Every time he would do it before, nothing ever happened but then it was just there last night and im like oh my word!!! I think he knew we were talking about him cause he jumped off the couch and ran into a corner to go clean himself haha But yes! Lets definitely make a pact!

I did get a text from my boyfriend earlier today saying, "Geno is trying to hump, I'm scared..." hahah I told him the tips everyone here gave me so I'll see if he did any of it.

Letting him hump your arm though - not okay. Not sure why it's so hard to stop him?? Just stand up. Tell him no. Crate him if you have to. I would not wait until his neuter to make him stop. It's a bad behavior and needs to be stopped.

I honestly do not know why they allow their dogs to hump them or give them toys to hump. A dog should NEVER be allowed to hump a human, period. Its very simple to stop, especially with a little dog laying in bed with you. Pick him up and put him on the floor or in a crate. Done, Problem Solved, Issue Over. There is no weaning him out of the habit. It is something that shouldn't be allowed and should be stopped immediately. Do not wait the two months for him to be neutered.

Also, don't squirt him wit water for humping. Since this is a behavior where he actually has to be on you to perform it you can end the behavior simply by picking him up or moving away. If he persists, then you must be even more persistent.

I know giving them a toy to hump isn't harming anyone but its still letting the dog know the behavior is acceptable. So what's to stop them from doing it when you have company or to something other then their "hump toy". What if they find something similar at a friends house or a child's toy? not acceptable in my book.

Now while in a way I do agree with you I wanted to let you know that in my chachis case he would never mistake or use anything but his humpty bear. He is very attached to that bear I cant even put it out of his reach he will whine for it. Also he rarely humps it. Like once a month if even that so just because you allow them to hump a toy doesnt mean they are going to be a humpung fool.

I know she is a girl but Ziva liked to hump ( a toy) and I found it was out of boredom- we upped her activity and it all but stopped unless she has an over-tiring/stimulating day. We still let her know it was a "no" and turned our backs to her.We have not seen the behavior since we got the new pup!

Excuse me, if you feel sick cause a dog humps, you must get sick pretty often cause so many dogs try to do it, even girl dogs. For me, personally, if it wasn't associated with dominance, I would let him hump. I don't really care but he does need to know we are the parents so I do agree with everyone about having him stop and I appreciate the tips given. I am definitely going to try them. As for the condescending remarks, you can leave those at the front door...k thanks! :)

While it may be unwanted by people - I'm hearing people say it's unacceptable behavior - I would have to disagree. Seems to me it's very natural and part of life for most animals.

Sexual behaivor isn't unacceptable or at least shouldn't be in my humble opinion - but like all things, there's a time and a place.

Very weird! Nothing wrong with the dog, just the owner. You definitely have a

Hmmmm.... I agree with breaking him of humping your arm... I have 2 male yorkies. Bevo had a favorite loofa dog.... After he was neutered, he hasn't "humped" anymore. Luckily Mack has never humped anything (that I've witnessed anyway).

Just like it's been said, he will think it's ok to do this to your company and anyone else. I'm not going to be judgmental, but as much as I love and adore my boys, I would never allow them to hump me!!! Best of luck to you in correcting your situation!!!

Then you can refrain from commenting. I do not tolerate negativity in my threads. YT is here to be helpful to yorkie owners/breeders/lovers of the breed/ect so if you can't handle that then you need to keep your comments to yourself.

I'm sorry if you think it's weird but there is a lot of other people out there that do a lot of weirder things with their dogs so if that's all you got on me than I don't really care. Just because I let my dog hump my arm does not give you the right to judge my intelligence. The fact that you think it is a test to my intelligence obviously shows your lack thereof. Unless you have anything else positive to say, then I am going to put you on my block list because I have the right to pick and choose who I care to listen to.

Some comments made on this thread were a little upsetting but I know everyone means well. So when people tell me I should not allow him to hump me, and although some posts sound stern, I do take them seriously because they are looking out for the wellbeing of my puppy. I greatly appreciate that!!! Attesting to my intelligence on the other hand...yeah I don't tolerate this.

Anything helpful and positive from now on only please. So far, a lot of people have really given good insight and tips on helping me. Thank you! :)

Unfortunately, you can't dictate the tone or the direction a thread takes. However, a very wise YTer told me to put things on personal ignore. Take what you can learn and grow upon, and ignore the rest. That helps! :)

when i got Bentley the first day he humped my arm on the ride home. i just pushed him away and said NO and after a day or two of learning that i don't allow it he stopped for good. never has tried it again. i understand humping is a normal dog thing, but i just don't like it and taught my boy it's not ok to do and he doesn't. Sadie humps him sometimes and i usually just distract her by getting her to play with toys instead. she's all dominance though. it just looks icky to me and i don't want it done around me.

someday i'll have a human son and wouldn't allow him to do "normal" things boys do in the living room around us. he'll be taught that it's something to do in private and not in the presence of mom or dad or anyone else. a simple please go to your room if you need some private time is all it will take and he'll understand it's not public stuff it's private stuff. not wrong, just not something we do in front of the whole world :D and i agree dogs or humans it's not gross to be our animal selves, just not ok for public

Anyone who signs up on YT can post in your or any thread, and unless they are breaking any rules, they have every right to, and can agree or disagree with you. This place would not be as informative as it is if all of us agreed all the time. How boring, and what would we learn?

Now as far as your issue, I agree with the others, since he only seems to hump your arm, just take your arm away. It's that simple.

Now for myself, my Uni who is a girl, humps her beds. She's always done this, with all her beds, and once with her dragon toy after she killed it. I believe it is a dominance thing. She has never humped a person or another dog. I continue to let her do it.

I agree that humping is a normal and natural behavior. However, I'd definitely put an end to allowing your pup to hump your arm. As you've said, it's a dominance issue. If you allow him to do it to you, he will do it to others. The longer it's allowed, the longer it will take for him to break the habit.

If you need to tire him out and calm him down at night, there are plenty of other ways. :)
