Since there isn't any redness or swelling, I don't think it's something super serious. Def. want to call your vet about it however it can just be drainage or a reaction to the sutures, it happens often after spays (same sort of incision just not as big) but because there isn't inflammation (is it hot to touch?) I wouldn't be think it too serious. (I went to vet tech school and we had routine spays like every day and it was pretty common to see lumps beside the incision site) I know his surgery was exploratory surgery but it looks like a similar reaction |
He doesn't have one on either side right? |
I have human med background, not vet med, but my first gut thoughts would be fluid accumulation or herniation. I'd like to actually touch it, but that's not happening. Have you PM'd EllieMay? Have you heard back from your vet yet? |

Vet's probably going to want to see this in person. |

Still praying.... |
Saying prayers for Mack's continuing improvement. Hope the swelling is just a side effect from the surgery. Mack looks great in the picture! |

Mr. Mack, you need to stop scaring your Momma! It looks like fluid build up to me as well. But it's a good thing your could text your vet a photo. Still sending prayers (for health and poop)! |
Checking in on baby Mack. Have you heard back from the vet about the swelling? |
Kendra, back in 07 when my sheltie had a hystorectamy and also had tumors removed her insision sight looked exactly like that, it even ended up getting red and looked like a hicky, I paniced and took her to the er vet as I was worried (she was 14yr old at the time) Vet said its normal after surgery and would go back down in a few days! Not saying this is what Mack has, but it does look the same. Try not to worry, unless it starts causing him pain I would just follow up with your vet in the morning. |
Bumps from incisions are just one of those things a vet needs to see/feel, palpate. Most are nothing at all. Some are abscesses and they have to be taken care of. Some are just trauma/irritation related. Ellie got a bunch of little bumps under the incision post spay and one really big one. They (after palpation) were deemed to be nothing serious. As much as a vet should probably feel it, I don't think it warrants an hour's drive tonight bc your vet has already seen it. Wouldn't hurt, but probably not necessary. Gums pink and wet? Any temp? Any pain in the area? Didn't read this whole thread, but something about him not pooping. Very normal post abdominal surgery. wouldn't even worry about it til 5+ days post unless he's straining and can't go or throwing up. He has to re-regulate. Weren't his intestines just sliced open? Even after a spay it can take several days. Heck, even messing with Ellie's diet or whatev can stop her from pooping for like 4 days. Wouldn't be too worried. |
