Some Yorkies have a silver or light blonde coat. There is nothing to "fix", it's just their natural coloring and it does become more apparent as their puppy coat grows out or is cut off. The dog in my avatar is one of those. She started off the traditional black and tan and then started to show "gray roots" at about 16 weeks. Now she's completely blonde and gray. |
Tibbe was still very black and tan when I got him at age 9 mos. and very soon after that, he began to break and soon was quite gray. Now he is light gray, which is not at all according to the AKC standard but still very nice, with a clear light golden face. |
The same thing pretty much happened to me as well. However, I could tell by his roots, that if his hair got cut short he would be a total different color as only the tips of his hair was dark. I didn't want them to cut his hair, so I was SHOCKED as I was not prepared for the drastic change. Took me a few days to get adjusted to it, but he is still cute, just not "fuzzy" cute. |
I think the puppy coat is gone. My two puppies are very different. I will try to get a picture of Ginny Joy and Abba Boy this week. Abba at 8 mos looks about the same as he did at 12 weeks. He was given a light trim up. But, Ginny Joy at 7 months is a beautiful blue gray and pale peach color, no black or rich brown in sight and that is a dramatic change. She was given a very short puppy cut at 5 months. Gosh I had forgotten how beautiful Rosie is ! Also Hank is so gorgeous I haven't seen a picture of him for awhile. |
Thank you for all your help. I guess I need to do some more reading up on the breed. When I first saw Teddy I was sooo shocked that I thought they changed dogs on me. I had no idea he was going to get shaved. The groomer said she tried to get his tangles out but couldn't so she had no choice. I do wish she would have called me to prepare me before I picked him up. At least I can tell the two apart now! LOL ....I do like the silver color, I was just surprised |
