Leaving your puppy for a few days I was wondering if anyone had experienced this before? I am off for a business trip tomorrow and I thought Teddy (7 months old) was to be at home with my husband, but then he just found out he's got to fly out on Wednesday too. And we don't have anyone to babysit him at home, so we'd probably have to leave him at petcare (they do allow you to leave your pups there). I am a bit worried about this, since he'd never have to stay there before. He was always with us, but it's such a short notice. My husband will be gone from Wednesday to Saturday, so Teddy'd probably stay at petcare from Tuesday night till Saturday. If you'd experienced something like this before, please please let me know what I can do to make his stay more enjoyable??? |
Has he had a bordatella vaccine to keep him from getting kennel cough because that is common for dogs to pass around. Other than that im sure it will be fine |

Now I dont know if its the same now but it used to be that it needed to be given every 6 months to be effective. It might be good to let your vet know your going to board him. The only time I did I let my vet know and he gave me some tips. I cant remember if he gave them another bordatella shot |
When we have to leave Annie, I talk to my Vet and there are a couple Vet. Techs that take care of puppies. So Annie goes home with a Vet Tech. I know she is in good hands and gets individualized care. |

Food + treats for the duration of the stay Bed + 'mummy smelling' blanket Towels Food + water bowl Harness + lead Brush Toys Certificates of Vaccination Any necessary medicines Poop bags Harry's crate Hope that helps a little - and I really hope it all goes happily and smoothly for you (all!) :) Sally + Harry x |

They told me they'd give him food as the cost of stay includes food (the same we use), but I'll bring his bowls. I am already missing him! :-( |
Hi OP and I understand your dilema in having to leave your baby in "strange" surroundings while you're on a business trip. Do you know if the petcare place has webcams? That would give you peace of mind if you are able to remotely view what your baby is doing. We have Best Friends Pet Care (I've not had to board Romeo) in our area and they were highly recommended and are equipped with webcams that pet parents can view anytime. |
Any way a friend could take your yorkie? I am so against bordering.. |
He should be fine. You can always ask your vet or others for references on where they would recommend. You got some great advice. |
You might be surprised at your options. I take Teddy to doggie daycare that has two trainers working there full-time...and one of the trainers boards dogs in her house. She only boards small dogs because she has a small dog and she's a certified trainer AND Teddy sees her on a regular basis so I feel comfortable leaving him there...you might consider looking for trainers in your area/daycare people that might do it. |

The stinky (!!!) t-shirt's a good idea - and I was going to ask about webcams too? If not, whether a member of your family or a friend might be able to have a little pop-in, just to check how he's doing? I'm sure everything will turn out just fine for you, but I do know how you feel! Sally + Harry x |

I would make sure that the kennels are indoors, we have some around here that have outdoor kennels- I shudder at the thought! I am so beyond lucky to have wonderful next door neighbors with a shared yard to watch my babies, I totally feel your pain but I am sure your baby will do just fine! |
it is tough when one of us goes away, but i cant imagine both. there is a place that alot of my friends take their pups to when they go on vacation and someoen is not around to watch them. it sometimes is good for the pup to be socializing and playing and they have fun. the place naer us is called the barker lounge, they do parties and events and doggy day care. from what i hear the pups love it, but i have not yet had to take lola. if we go away for a night she goes to one of our parents houses which are more than happy to take her id make sure she has all her favorite things, her bowls, toys, smelling item of yours to sleep with. |

I am very lucky. My vet does not board animals. He just has one vet tech with a very loving, nurturing heart. My vet supports her love and he then allows her to bring the babies along to work with her so they get a great day of interaction and fun. |
