Live & Learn First, let me start off by saying that Brutus is a little mut, he is Yorkie and Pom. He resembles more of a Yorkie, but I do see the Pom in him - especially his fuzzy fur. This is how we met.... I went to a client's home and when I pulled into the driveway (out in the middle of no where) 2 little dogs come running up. They were adorable, and I kept playing with them the entire time I was there. My client said to me "I am really having a bad day, if you want one - you can have that one" and she pointed to Brutus. Well, I am a super OCD planner type that has NEVER even considered a dog before in my life (I'm 43 and have a 19 old son). I really brushed off the idea and went right over that subject. However, in my mind I was thinking "how will I get him home, I have nothing, I have to go back to work, I haven't talked to the family about it, etc". I thought about that little dog all night and made a plan. The next day I called her and told her if her offer was still open, I would love to have the puppy. Her response was "I'll let you know". At that point I am disappointed, but thought, if it was meant to be it would. Two days later I am an hour and a half away for work and I get an email on my phone from my Admin gal that said "So and so called and said she is dropping your dog???? off at the office in an hour??? Please advise!" Well, holy crap! On my way back to the office I picked up what I thought I needed, I had no idea what I was doing..... She brought the dog to my work in a little carrier. I left early for the day and took my baby to see his new home and meet the rest of his family. I never called my boys to tell them, they found out when they got home. They LOVE him. Now, my little adorable FREE dog hasn't really been free.... He had never been to the vet or had any shots. He just have his 3rd set recently, and he has been sick, so we got to pay for blood work, x-rays, multiple trips to the vet, emergency hospital visit, puppy classes, and special food. He is part of my family now, I don't care how much he costs now or in the future. I didn't do ANY research (so unlike me) and have learned so much from this site. I feel like such an idiot when I read some of these threads - I have never even looked at his nails! His hair covers them (going to the groomer for the first time on the 14th) and I never thought to look. I am also using bad food, but just ordered some highly recommended food off of another thread yesterday. With all of his stomach issues, I never thought of it being food realted because I continued the food he had been on. I am now mixing the kibble with the I/D food, weaning him off the I/D gradually. And here's just one more funny thing.... I have always had anxiety over vomit. If someone ever says they feel sick to their stomach, I run for the hills. My son had migraines when he was young and the vomiting would throw me into high panic. Of course my little baby dog gets sick and still occassionally pukes - this morning at 5 am in bed actually. Anyway, in the middle of his illness, I was not only cleaning the puke up but looking at it to see what in the heck he had been eating. Never in my life.....boy these little dogs sure do change you. Sorry for the long post, but figured I'd get it all out in one rather than multiple ones. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Oh, we have his neutered scheduled for 11/26 and the vet didnt say anything about pulling baby teeth. I guess I will call and ask. |
Welcome to YT. Sounds like your baby found the right home to me. Good luck and enjoy all the adventures you have ahead of you. |
What did the vet say after all the testing? It sounds like it may have just been the food. Good luck in the future they do win your heart. I examine everything in poop too. lol |
Wow! Good for you, he needed a good home! I know what you mean, I have never in my life cleaned up nasties, and I do for the yorkies:) they just burrow into your heart! Good luck at the vet.:) |
Sounds like you got into it up to your ears! You seem to be adjusting to being a fur baby mom pretty well. Checking out the vomit is a really good doggy mom thing to do. His picture is adorable. How old is the little guy? Did the owner say why she decided to give him up and not the other one? Was she the breeder? Did the vet say when they thought the stomach problem was caused by? |
I enjoyed the story. Sounds like you two were meant to be! It is funny what you will do for these little ones. They have a way of wrapping your heart around their little paws. Congrats on your new addition! |
Awww, what a sweet story. Sounds like you two were meant to be. And you are right, dogs are never "free". Lol. I do have one question. Not to stir up any debate on Science diet but I am wondering about you taking him off the I/D. You said he had stomach issues which is probably why the I/D was recommended for him. I too have a pup with tummy issues and IBS. I have tried to change foods but ended up back on the I/D because the others caused her to get sick. Not starting a debate, just want to make sure you talk this over with your vet before you have other issues to deal with. Congrats on your new addition!!! |
one of my favourite parts is that she dropped the dog off at your work and you got an email from admin about it hahaha. that is funny. i love this story too, it looks like you are doing everything for him that his old owner failed to do, and that is awesome! so happy you guys found eachother! |
Congrats! Sounds like you found a new love of your life! :) This is such a heartwarming story...he needed you and unbeknown to...you needed him. You are giving him a wonderful home and unconditional love as he is giving right back to you. LOVE it! I agree the call from your admin...really cracked me up. Can't wait to hear all your stories and see lots of pictures of your little love bug...just look at that sweet face...precious! |
Sweet story! Isn't it crazy how you can fall in love with these little guys so quickly? I'd do anything in the world for my little man. :) |
What a sweet story :) I'm glad to hear your new pup has changed you... These lil guys can definitely pull at your heart strings! |
We love your story. I think you needed Brutus, and he surely needed you. Sometimes God says forget your plans, you need this and zap our life is changed in a heartbeat. Welcome to YT ! :) |
Brutus sounds like a sweetie and sounds like he now has the perfect home! |
Mamma's Boy What's the saying? Who rescued who? Only yours might be who found who? But at this point who cares sounds like LOVE, oh and BTW congrats on your new baby! |
Welcome to YT. In the library section, there are some permanent threads great articles for the new puppy owner. Along with nails which need trimming regularly (probably at least monthly or more often), ears should be checked, and the anal glands. Your vet is a good source of advice, she can explain what a healthy ear looks and smells like, and how to tell if the anal glands need expressing. Also prior to any surgery it is a great idea to get pre op blood work done. I'm happy that you and Brutus found each other. |
