All dogs that make it out of shelter alive are required to be altered. Those that actually do make it out are very few. This is a country of quick satisfaction and if you decide your life circumstances change drop your pet off and never look back.

As for Barney, you went above and beyond most every owner that I know for not only him but all your dogs! You are an amazing owner and advocate for proper ownership. If only more people did even a small percentage of your care there would not be he issues that we see far too often.

All Gemy was doing was to present scientific info that she was aware of on this topic.
Why oh why, except to disparage Gemy and her views/info, did you have to bring up her terrible experience with Zoey???? She freely admitted and documented this 'error' and to me it made a very important point that heart worm prevention is really necessary. Anyone reading this would take note and think seriously about preventive measures. Would you rather she keep quiet and say nothing?
As some have said this was such a mean out of context low blow attacking a very conscientious member here. In my view you should apologize for this and have it deleted by admin.
I would pray that you never ever make a mistake with respect to the care of your pets. To err is human and the respect comes when one has the honor to admit it and hope it helps others.
I have found it hard to keep quiet in this, at some times, malicious thread, but I cannot sit by and see a great person like Gemy treated in this horrible way.

Early neutering can lead to a predisposition to ACL injury in large breed dogs--that's in the most recent article that Gemy cited. There is little or no data on small breed dogs. I don't think that anyone here is lynching anybody as if they were a shelter dog approaching the gas chamber.

Well it was my posts that was quoted. I am defending Jodi because I know where she was coming from and the whole Gemy should not have negativeness directed at her because she is a respected donating member bothered me because I have seen some respected donated members have the crud bashed out of them but they keep coming back and keep helping and no one goes hey this is a really respected donating member so leave them alone. I get where lisaly is coming from and EVERYONE donating member or not does deserve respect but I don't feel there was disrespect given.

I thought this was a forum that we should feel free to speak openly. I was not trying to be moderator; I was just telling you how I feel.

We are not in a courtroom where we have to discredit someone to make a point. This is forum with real people who have feelings. We all have different views, and it's great that we can share them here.

You may feel this is all a crock, and that's your opinion. I live by a different set of rules. You say you are attacked here, and I guess it happens to everyone. If it's happening often, did you ever stop to think about why?

Everyone makes mistakes, and I can forgive that. Not taking ownership for them and trying to make amends is different, though.

You don't need to listen to anything I am writing. I don't wish to moderate anyone, and I really don't want a response. I rarely speak up, but when I see someone getting hurt, it's difficult to sit back without saying a word. If it were me, I'd want to know if I hurt someone. Sometimes I do it unintentionally, and I'm always glad to find out so that I can talk through things with the person I hurt.

When someone is told that it could be there fault something terrible happened to there dog it hurts especially when we are talking about someone who really cares massively for her dogs. That is also a low blow. Saying an owner did something that caused harm to there dog when there is nothing that proves that is so much more lower of a blow.

Contributing vs Donating
 

I read the 'contributing' word as meaning contributing posts to the threads not as contributing money donations! I agree donating money should not earn one respect. Just saying!

Whether you are a donating member or not has nothing to do with respect. Respect is something that is earned, not bought. I don't care whether Gemy is a donating member or not--she has earned my respect.

I accept Megansmomma's explanation that mentioning Zoey wasn't meant to be hurtful. I'm ready to move on...

Well, yes, I can see that. I was not in on that original conversation, so I do not know what was said and what was meant. And I don't see the point in opening old wounds and causing even more hurt, unless it is followed by healing.

Spaying, neutering, vasectomy, tubal ligation....whichever way its done, it needs to be done. Birth control pills? I disagree, they can't even get that right for humans....and, lets face it, people forget to dispense their own medication veryyyyyy often and pet owners forget to dispense to pets as well, as documented in this thread and several others and not just heartworm meds.

I don't like to see a thread on any dog board that even slightly justifies or could be perceived as a reason not to spay/neuter, especially since there are more dogs killed everyday, then there are dogs in homes....working in a shelter, brings it home, really brings it home.

Bringing it to the forefront is important, every chance you get, because while many can sit back and pretend millions of dogs aren't killed each year, many more of us can't. The perfect world doesn't exist, have we become so desensitized and removed from reality that people are immune to REALLY caring about the plight of millions of dogs that are killed? I hope not.
