| ![]() Well, not sure how bad it may be. We have had Fergie three weeks yesterday and I brought her to our vet three weeks ago today (the first day after we picked her up). She's a rescue and has had a horrible itching/scratching problem. The vet gave her a shot and some pills that she took for right at 2 weeks. Her skin cleared up beautifully and the new pink skin was a beautiful site after seeing her covered in sores and scabs. Well, about two days ago I noticed she was starting to scratch real bad again. She never stopped completely, but it was 100% better than it was. So I brought her back to the vet today for a follow up and the vet now thinks that she has Sarcoptic Mange. One of our other dogs, Ta-Tudie has Demodectic Mange which is hereditary. I did a search and found this site that has a definition of each type of mange: Mange: The 4 Types Of Mange That Effect Dogs. Sarcoptic does not sound like much fun and I'm worried about her long term prognosis. Anyway, they gave her another injection and more pills today and he has already set her up for followup visits and shots for the next two weeks. He's hopeful that the three consecutive weeks of shots will kill the mange lifecycle but he didn't mention anything about our other dogs/cats and how this could affect them. I guess I will ask when I go back next week. They (the other two dogs) haven't shown any symptoms thusfar and at 3 weeks they should have been exposed to one laying cycle of the mites. Hopefully they are still cleared but we still have to get Ferg's fixed up. I guess nothing to do but give the meds and worry until next week when I go back in to ensure my other dogs are going to be fine but I'll be keeping a close eye on them. Hopefully the meds help Ferg's with the current bout with itching. Sorry for the rambling, just lot's of worry right now... ![]() |

| ![]() I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. Ferg is a lucky girl that you adopted her and getting her the care that she needs.
