Harley was groomed several times by the breeder before I got him (more to get him used to the noises than actual grooming). She came to my house two weeks after I got him and taught me how to groom, and he's been done every 2ish weeks since. I def recommend getting some clippers and scissors and just getting the dog used to having the noises around them, before you even send them to the groomers. That way they aren't scared when you do have their vaccines done and they can go. As a pup I would just turn the clippers on and rub the back of them along his body, so he got used to the vibrating tickle. He now only takes 15 minutes at the groomers for a full groom and trim (he's in a long coat). |
I groom my own. My friend has a mobile groomer come to her home. They are very professional and have a germ protocal which is why she uses them for her poodles. She said and I agree Puppies should have their shots & KC before going to a groomer. |
Mine both had their first visit at 5 months. I am fortunate to have found a mobile groomer that comes to the house. The first visit was more of a get to know you familiarization type visit. I got to sit in the van with them while they had their beauty day. They got their face feet and tail done. They did not even flinch when they got their nails done. They were good with everything - which was amazing because they cried like I was cutting their tail off when I trimmed their poppy butt hair. They even liked the blow dry! The clippers were the only thing that seemed to give them issue. She let them sniff it off and turned it on and let them get use to the sound and let them feel the vibration. She did not use it on the first visit. The groomer gave me some homework to help my pups get used to being groomed. It is easy to forget that this is all new to these guys and a little scary. For example, I play with their feet and run my fingers in between their pads. Also, gently hold their muzzle (for when she is trimming around their eyes) for s few seconds. I can hold their little muzzles now and brush the hair around their faces with no issue. The groomer is coming this afternoon and they will get a a nice trim up. We will see what they think of the clippers today! |
I have been wondering this same thing. I was thinking about taking Paisley now just to get her introduced to it. |
