Is THIS one an Australian Terrior Mix, too? 2 Attachment(s) Every time I look for a Yorkie at a local shelter, it is posted as a yorkie but ends up being an Australian Terrior. Do you think this guy is a real yorkie? lol His face doesn't seem like one. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to most dogs other than Yorkies and Tibetan Terriors. Thanks guys for all your help. You've saved me from a lot of headaches. |
1 Attachment(s) No, that looks like a Yorkie to me. Aussie's are usually very easy to tell apart because they often have wirey hair (that needs to be stripped, NOT shaved or groomed like a Yorkie) and they have a more distinct look. Here is an Aussie. Attachment 352782 |
Looks like a Yorkie with a really bad haircut :( |
I agree he looks Yorkie to me! |
Looks like a Yorkie who needs some love! |
I don't see the difference in the pictures what am I overlooking? |
<---- looks like my Bubba. |
Hmm I went googling and now I am wondering if my boy is a Yorkie or a Silky or even a Australian terrier. |
1 Attachment(s) This is my baby Sadie Mae, she is 100 percent silky terrier. She is a lot lighter than a yorkie. |
I think personally its pretty hard to tell. Not all australian terriers have the standard haircoat, and it often looks and feels like yorkie hair. I have groomed australian terriers that have hair just like yorkies. And same goes for yorkies, there are alot that are much larger than the standard, and such huge variety in haircoat. I goom a yorkie that is the size of an australian terrier and looks alot like one, but i have seen both parents and she is a yorkie for sure!!!! Personally the above photos look alot like an australian terrier to me, but then again, like i said i have seen alot of yorkies that looked like that too. |
Thank you for your responses. What does anyone else think? Yorkie or Australian terrior? Or mix? The fur on his face looks like that of an Australian terrior, I think. |

Or you could always try one of those dna breed test. Otherwise you will never know for sure. I think it would be soooo much better to adopt than buy from a breeder if at all possible The dna test are only like 50 or 60 dollars at the petco in our area. |
He looks like a yorkie mix |
He is adorable!! I don't think he has a "bad haircut!!!!" He looks a lot like Ian, who is all yorkie. |
Go with your instinct. My husband is very allergic to anything besides Poodles and Yorkies. (I have heard that you need to spend at least an hour with a dog to check allergies. Some dogs will trigger an instant response, with others a slower response.) |
Since you are highly allergic to any other breed I would go ahead and get a yorkie that is for sure a yorkie. It would be sad to bring home a dog thinking it was all yorkie and have a adverse reaction , then have to rehome your new dog. Just to be safe try a yorkie rescue or adopt from a reputable breeder . |

He looks very silky terrier to me, but only a DNA test can veryfy that, I will need to see him to determine if meets most of the Silky standards or at least a mix of one..:D |
