I would throw out those potty patches immediately. Double bag and taken outside. I would put them on pee pads until this thing straightens out and call the vet. Those worms if alive and moving could move throughout your apartment if just left there. |

If this was me I would have been washing it every day. I hope you have thrown that thing out now. Have you also gone thru your whole place to make sure they aren't anywhere else? |
Have you been seeing any flies in the house? The maggots usually stay where they are hatched, and the eggs are normally laid in garbage cans, feces, in wounds or open sores on the skin, etc. May just be the weather causing fly reproduction where there has been none previously. I would clean the potty patch more frequently... and soak it in hot water with a bit of bleach for 20 minutes or so... this should kill any maggots or eggs still in the fibers. House flys hatch out in less than 24 hours, so if you're not killing the eggs, you'll see new maggots everyday. I would wash the patch everyday for a week or two till you break the life cycle. Might continue to do that thru the summer months... and invest in a flyswatter. I don't think extermination will help as flys can leave and return at their will... maybe find something that would discourage them from coming around. Fly tape is great, just don't get stuck in it yourself! Fix any holes in screens and doors, etc. |
Gross me out with a spoon....YUK |

If fruit flies are what you think are your culprit, there is an old orchard farmer's trick to catch and kill them. You put out a small container/dish with vinegar and a couple tsps of sugar in it. It attracts the fruit flies, and they die in the liquid. |
