| ![]() Do your Yorkies allow you to trim their nails? If so how do you get it done. My Zoe who is almost 5 months old will allow me to bathe her, brush her, check her teeth, but she will not allow me anywhere near her with the nail clippers. She screams, and squirms and I am afraid I am going to hurt her by holding her so tight. Any suggestions?? |

| ![]() Maybe try to get her used to you touching her paws like try rubbing them and just gently touching them.

| ![]() I agree, work with her daily, touching her feet and have the clippers nearby without always actually clipping her nails. Give lots of praise. Choose a time when she is not full of energy. Last but not least, you could try a Kiss-E Collar (sold here by Mom to Hot Rod) to block her vision and make her less aware of what is going on with her feet. Sounds silly, but it works in some cases.

| ![]() This has been a huge work in progress for Jackson. It's really difficult for me to cut his nails. But we've slowly been de-sensitizing him to the clippers. I'll hold his paw, treat, etc. Each time I hold it for a bit longer so he's used to me holding it. Then I hold the clippers close but don't cut with them yet. So far I'm down to about 5 minutes per nail, LOL. Needless to say, I don't get too far. I usually bring him to the vets.

| ![]() Princess used to be terrible when the clippers would come out. Someone else would hold her, or I would and she would squirm like crazy. I started out touching her feet a lot as a pup but it didn't really help I guess. She'll let me trim about one nail every day or two. I finally found this nice little boutique & I just walk in and hold her while they clip away and she's none the wiser. That's the easiest thing for us at the time.

| ![]() Yup, my suggestion is to hold her tight. ![]() Desensitizing is the best option. Won't hurt and could work. My dogs let me clip their nails. I usually have somebody restrain Rylee though. He's got springs in his butt. I try to avoid having anybody else do it. At vet offices (here anyway), they cut quickly and aren't afraid to make pups bleed (because it's just unavoidable sometimes and owners usually want more than a tipping). I prefer to just take a little bit off, avoid all pain, and hopefully the next time it will go smoothly. If mine get hurt, I know they would scream bloody murder the next time I did it. So we are very careful.
