YT Addict | Need help with this Riley has been attacking his left ear when we go to bed at night. He swats it like crazy and even whines. This goes on for about 20 minutes then he goes to sleep. I mentioned it to the vet last month when he went for his shots and the vet says he doesn't see anything. Maybe the hair is bothering him. He was groomed since then and it still goes on. He goes back on Thursday for his last shots but I was wondering if anyone else had this happen and what it was. |

| My lab and shih tzu did so and it turned out they had an ear infection. I would get a second look or opinion. Especially if they whine. Also have them checked out for ear mites. Wish you the best! |

| Ask your vet to test for an ear infection and ear mites. This requires a swab and a microscope. Sometimes an infection is deeper than can be seen by just looking in the ear. |

| You may want to read up on Mometamax. It's a Rx med for yeast ear infections. It made Ian's ears worse, and I stopped using it after 2 of the 7 days. $40.00 in the garbage!

YT Addict | Thanks, he goes back to the doctor tomorrow so I will insist they research. He saw nothing the last time but obviously something is bothering him. It is kind of weird that it is only at night when it really bothers him. I will watch closer today to see if he is bothered during the day. |

| My shih tzu did that when he was a puppy, and it was mostly at bed time. He did have an ear infection, too. They can't tell just by looking, they did an ear smear under microscope. Hope Riley is better soon.

| My girls do this, not only with their ears but their chins too. For my girls it is allergies that causes it

| Izabella has a heck of a time with her ears. I use an ear cleaner in her ears every evening. It seems to help. I bought it at the grocery store. However, when it is gone I was going to try to fnd a recipe for a natural ear cleaner for a dog using olive oil or something like that as a base. I put some on my finger and rub it into her ear and around her ear and all over her ear.

YT Addict | Riley update We just came from the doctor and he does have an ear infection. They gave him a good ear flush and we started him on drops. Hopefully he starts to feel better soon. On a happy note he now weighs 7lbs and 5 oz. I think he just graduated to TeaPot status. Good job Riley! |
