Doggie Rent
 

I wanted some input from fellow YT members. My bf is leaving because he found a job closer to home. We moved to LA together because I have school. Well, I have to stay here for another year and it's just been frustrating trying to find a place within my budget and also allow dogs. Well, the girl is asking additional $50, but I lowered to $30, a month for my babies because they take up space (the pen pictured)...Do you think that's fair? The reason I'm setting up a pen is so they will be comfortable while I'm at school because there's more space. I am really not comfortable with crating them. Anyways, I was also wondering if others are paying rent for their yorkies and how much.

In my apartment complex they charge an additional $25.00 per pet per month. That was on top of the $400 non refundable deposit per pet I paid with my security.

By the Way- that is a really amazing set up you have!

There are lots of apartment complexes that make tenets pay additional rent for pets.

Is that for both? Does that include the new puppy?

I'm sorry if this insults property owners, but I think a pet rent is completely unecessary, and way over the top. I agree with a non-refundable pet deposit, but not with pet rent. If you didn't have a pen, you would have other belongings that take up space.

Setting my personal feelings aside, $30 does not sound too bad. I've seen places that charge $80-$100 per pet, per month in addition to an outrageous non refundable deposit.

Most of the time apartments will charge extra a month for a dog. PLus there are breed restrictions. More and more places are allowing dogs and this is the reason why.

We just moved from an apartment that was charging us $45 per pet, per month, plus $400 pet deposit. Seems like a common practice. Pointless IMO but common.

Thanks!!! Omg nonrefundable?!? That doesn't make sense to me...I would understand refundable deposit just in case the pets made a mess in the carpet.

Just wanted to add, the apartment management DOES NOT charge for dogs. We currently live here in a studio and why we like the complex (one lady has 4 maltese!!). It's the person that's under the lease that wants me to pay $30 monthly rent for my yorkies. I was able to get it down by offering to pay $200 extra refundable deposit. Original plan was that I was suppose to rent the apartment as she already put in 30 days notice. The manager said I can see if she wants to be roommates with me and this other girl. Well, she didn't seem to like my dogs so I chose to rent it myself. Well, I found out today, she retracted the 30 days notice and wants to find roommates now...:rolleyes: Now, my option is to just take it or find another place further from campus and more hassles too. Last resort is for bf to take Carmel and Emma with him for until I move out, but I really don't want to do that :( I think I'll just pay the $30 monthly rent. Honestly, I don't think it's fair because the pen doesn't even take up that much space...oh well...

I've been calculating and I think the time I get the puppy, I will be out of here. I'm only staying here for 9 months. Then I'm moving back to the bay and bf and I will find a place that will allow our babies. ;):) Rent is much cheaper there, I guess it's because I won't have to be close to a particular area. I can't wait to finish school!

If you are subletting, it sounds like the person is just making a profit. Try to find another place to rent that won't rip you off, or rent directly from the apartment management company.

I own now but I never heard of a monthly rent charge. It was typically a non-refundable deposit for the "assumed" wear and team on carpet/etc. Been quite a while since I rented though.

I agree!! I think pet rent is unfair too...WOW!! You are paying $150 a month for your pets!! :eek:

Charging a non refundable deposit is very common here in Fl. as is an additional charge per pet, per month. It was cheaper for my son to buy a house(per month) than to rent an apartment in a nice area. The apartment charged $500 non refundable deposit and $50 per pet, per month ! Also if there were 3 complaints you had to get rid of your pet or move out !
