Does Anyone Have Victoria Stilwell"s Number on Hand? 3 months into adopting my now 4.5 month old yorkie/maltese mix Zoey and yes, I am venting! First of all, which of the two breeds are the nicest? Is it the Yorkie or the Maltese? ZOEY has apparently inherited the more aggressive side of the two! Grrrrr! She's evil I tell you! LOL I wanted a prissy dog. The type that you can put the bow in the hair and carry around like youre "rich"....LOL...Is that Zoey? HELLLLLLLLLL NO! Just trying to brush her turns into a wrestling match! Oh, and cuddling? Uh-Uh! She prefers to be on the ground wrestling with my other dog. She is sooooooo not girly at all! Just yesterday, she was sitting so nicely staring at me and I couldnt help but lean over and give her several kissing on her cute button nose. AFter the third kiss, Zoey the "hell puppy" decides she wants to jump up and try to bite my nose off! Really Zoey??? Oh and snarling is her specialty... Another thing she likes to do is pull my 3 year old son's "drawers" down, exposing his bottom. I mean what kind of sick and perverse dog do I have! She gets a kick out of doing it too! LMAO! I swear she is the little sister of 'Wilfred' (a show about a man dressed in a dog suit on FX)! Dont get me wrong, I love the little girl to death, but I really envy all of you who have a prissy girly dog that loves to be groomed, kissed, cuddled, carried, and love having a bow in her hair!!!! |
LOL...sorry I shouldn't laugh but just picturing what you were saying I couldn't help it. It sounds like Zoey has come in and established herself as the pack leader of the house...lol My suggestion would be to try a bit of training. More than likely she will calm down a bit and everyone will be happier. As for the prissy dog with bows....well you could sneak up on her while she's sleeping. ;) |
Aww, she is just being a dog. She might get more cuddly as she ages. |
Thanks for responding! I dont think she thinks she is leader (im the HBIC in this place! LOL), well, i hope she doesnt!....When I say, "bad zoey!", she stops and goes onto her back. LOL. One thing, I will mention is that she does have a weakness for belly rubs. It stops her dead in her tracks! As far as napping, she usually does it in her crate! She is scheduled to be fixed on the 1st of September. Do you think she will calm down afterwards? I just wanna hold her, cuddle her and put bows in her hair! Is she showing her "yorkie" side or is this the trait of the maltese with all of this aggression!? |
She is just doing what puppy's do as she ages she will mellow some. She is teething and still growing. Puppy's have lots of energy. If she knows what no means that's a great start. I too smiled as I read this post as she is just full of so much life. She may never be the purse dog you wanted but look at all that personality she has... :) |
1 Attachment(s) Your post made me laugh...your dog sounds exactly like mine! I also have a Yorkie/Maltese named Lucy. She is 6 months old, and let me tell you, she is a WILD one! She loves to play with my dads Pekingese. She jumps on Lizzy constantly, never giving it a rest. If Lizzy is around, she wants nothing to do with anything else! I am continually trying to separate them. A couple of weeks ago we were playing with a ball. She jumped up and hit the bone under my eye really HARD with her skull...just being crazy, exicted to play with me. Well, the next day, I had the biggest shiner you ever saw, lol. It just went away completely. I had it for almost 2 weeks! Only I could get a black eye from a 7 pound dog. I think Maltese are supposed to be a gentle breed? I guess she is more Yorkie. I love her like crazy! As far as bows go, I let the groomer do it:) The feathers you see in the picture below are gone now...she got them out somehow. They only lasted a couple of days. I guess she didn't like them! Attachment 351296 |
AWWWWWW, but I wanted a "purse" dog!!!! Please, if anyone can give me any advice about turn her into a prissy girly dog, I would appreciate it! |
They do mellow as they age. Believe it or not, you will miss these "hellion" days! They just get a little big for their britches at times when they're young. |
Well, her britches must be sized "XXX-Large"!!!! |
lol too cute! My little Ahi is also a spitfire but she does let me dress her up and put bows on her. But she thinks everything is her chew toy...oh yeah and everywhere is her potty pad. ahhh...the life of a puppy! :D |
4 Attachment(s) This was my Gracie Ruth. All tomboy, all play, all full steam ahead, all the time. She didn't want to have anything to do with cuddles or snuggling or the Momma. :( She was so focused on Boo, her toys and finding something stinky to roll in. She was spayed at 7 months of age and that first day afterwards all she wanted was to snuggle with me. After that she would come to me for cuddles and snuggle with me in bed at night. From day one I put her ponytail up in clips until it got long enough for scrunchies and although she didn\'t like them, she did figure out resistance was futile. :p After she turned 1 she really settled down. She\'s 3 1/2 yrs old now and she\'ll sit still for me to do her hair and will even, begrudgingly, wear clothes and poses for pictures. Just stay consistent, and give her time to grow up and settle down. If you give her a good base of discipline now, it\'ll pay off big when she\'s older. Baby G "tearing the flesh from her most recent kill" Attachment 351304 G in the clips I used until her topknot got long enough for scrunchies Attachment 351305 My precious girl Attachment 351306 Posing so sweetly for her Valentines Picture Attachment 351307 |
She will be a girly dog when she gets older she is a pup now and doing the typical things pups do |
2 Attachment(s) Hahaha this made me giggle lol Poppy is a little tinker at times too! She kills her eeyore toy like she is really killing it the sounds she makes are terrible and scarey haha. Then she runs around my foot and tries to bit my toe off like its a mouse or a nice play toy. She jumps up to bite the cats face every day and run after the cat growling and barking. I have to say she is a girly girl tho. She loves to cuddle and get attention off mum.. altho she cant keep still she wriggles trying to lick my hand haha! I can walk around the shops with her in my arm and she will stay still and be ever so good and not move or bark or anything. I love putting bows in her hair at first she hated it but i just kept putting them in and now she wears a bobble ALL the time (apart from bath time) Just keep going she will give in in the end when she knows she aint gonna win haha! Poppy was spayed just a few weeks ago at a year old and she i think has calmed down a little :) Here are some pics of Poppy..... Attachment 351312 Attachment 351313 |
Thanks guys for the postings and the beautiful pics!!! This morning, I was near tears because she is so rough and I really wanted a lap dog!!!! Hopefully she will let me put bows in her hair so she can be as gorgeous as all your furbabies!!! I swear I am sitting here in envy and Zoey is in her cage sleeping and not giving a $%#$!!!!!! |

She is just precious! I love the pics! :) Quote:
When I started putting bands in Ahi's hair she would fight me tooth and nail...but like a pp said she gave up because it was futile. She now wiggles a little but realizes if she just lets me do it, it will be done and over sooner. LOL :D So just do it and be consistent. She will realize. ;) |
Gotta love "Terrier" in Yorkshire Terrier!;) |

Silver was just like that when we first got her. We had her fixed 2 days after she hit 6months and she'll be a yr old in a few weeks so she's calmed down A LOT since we got her. So like others have said it's pretty much just her being a puppy. |
Aw, she is just being a normal yorkie puppy. Mine all went through the same thing but they all calmed down when they got older. I remember when Lillie was a puppy. She wouldn't let me hold her or kiss her, she just didn't want anything to do with me. I was so disappointed because I like to have cuddly ones and all she wanted to do was play with the others. Shortly after turning a year old she was completely different!! She is now so cuddly that she even sleeps under the covers with me every night and has earned the title princess. Just give her time to be a puppy and she'll come around. Oh and maltese are generally calm lap dogs. My maltese is nothing like my yorkies personality wise. Yorkies are terriers so you can see which one your little girl is taking after. |
Awwwww shucks! I have to wait a whole year? Bummer! I was so hoping for the Maltese personality...Oh well... |
I'd have to really question anyone who claimed to have a 4.5 month old cuddly yorkie.:D She'll grow out of it. I had to laugh when you said she's pulling down your babe's drawers. When I was a baby, we had one that did that, too. |
I'll let you know if Scarlett ever gets cuddly and girly. Right now, she's a total Tom-boy while Rhett wants to be the pampered pooch. |
Your post brought back memories of my SophieKate that is exactly how she acted for the first year of her life. I thought I would have to play tug of war with her and my pant leg for the rest of my life (usually she would grab when one of my legs were in the pant). Now SophieKate is 3 years old and she is Miss Mellow and sweet but still likes her play time. Oh and no bows for SophieKate, she is a bandana kinda girl. Dresses??? oh heck now, she will wear a sweater or a t shirt As other have said, you will miss these wild puppy days when she gets older but I am sure your lap dog will come around. (great now I have puppy fever). |
I hope you don't take offense by this bc I don't mean any disrespect, but if you knew you wanted a calm prissy lap dog you could carry around in your bag, why didn't you look into adopting an older dog? I was also curious, you said you were a month into adopting your yorkie/maltese mix, but she's only 4 1/2 mo now? So you got her at 6 wks old? I'm assuming you purchased her and not actually adopted her. She is just being a puppy, she is not evil. However, it is really hard if not impossible to determine the look or temperament of a mixed breed dog. Even if you met her parents, littermates can look and behave totally different. That's why I always suggest if you know exactly what you are looking for, you should get an adult dog. Puppyhood is difficult. If not properly trained, puppy could develop many traits that you may find undesirable and will be hard to train out of in adulthood. |
