I agree with those who say that there should be a call placed to animal control. This pitbull is dangerous and I think she is hiding her dog. The last thing that you would want is to have this animal back home again. I am in Ontario Canada and there is no reason here that we cant have 10 yorkies if they are taken care of properly. I can't imagine that there would be any issue with the number of wee little dogs that you have! The bottom line is that the pit bull really should be taken care of (even if that means destruction :( )and the owner should be taking care of ALL the costs for Deeogi. The rule here as well is that it doesnt matter where or how a dog attacks, the owner is ALWAYS responsible for the actions of the animal. Thats is one of the reasons that I ensure that I only have animals that I can guarentee will not cause serious injury to another living creature. I will take a look online and see if I can find out what the laws are in your area regarding number of pets so that you wont have to be afraid to call. |
I'm so sorry about your baby first off, but sorry, too, about the way your neighbor is handling it. My guess is she's taking the pics herself to ruffle your feathers so you'll back off, I honestly cannot see what any of her picture would prove. I'm sure the vet can tell by the pattern on the leg wound or something how most of that injury happened & can back up your side of what really happened. IMO I do think the dog needs to be removed from that home or something if she can't keep him contained to say the least. He's done something so terrible, who's to say that wont encourage him more to do it again. So sorry, we will continue to pray for you & your family. |
Checking back in. If your neighbor has homeowner's or renter's insurance - they might be able to cover the actual medical costs for the damage her dog caused. A lot of companies have exclusions for certain breeds; but most pit bulls are a mix and therefore, it is hard to enforce that exclusion. Just something to think about in the way of getting the vet bills paid. |
I am so sorry something this horrifying has happened! Sending prayers for Deeogi for a fast recovery. I don't think you need to call animal control, call the police. They will advise you if you need to call animal control. She should be responsible for all the vet bills. In CA, the dog cannot be leash free or roaming around, it's the law. There should also be a record of the attacking dog, so I think it needs to be reported to the police. This is from http://doglaw.hugpug.com/law/califor...01-31609.html: (c) Any dog which, when unprovoked, on two separate occasions within the prior 36-month period, has killed, seriously bitten, inflicted injury, or otherwise caused injury attacking a domestic animal off the property of the owner or keeper of the dog. |
Where is the pit's yard???? I'm confused. If your dog was in your fenced in yard and there are no dug hole he escaped from she is to have control over her dog at all times. Right? |
I'm so sorry this happened to your beloved pup. I hope he is able to recover from this awful ordeal. The owner of the pitt is probably looking for weaknesses in your fence to argue that your unleashed dog was out on the street (against least laws) and antagonized her dog. If I were you, I'd check your fence for weak spots and see if there are marks or indications of Deoogie being pulled. |
I understand not wanting to get animal control involved because of the number of dogs you have. However, what happens if this dog attacks again? The next dog may not be as lucky or it could easily be a small child that is injured or even killed. |

I still think you need to make a report as soon as possible. If the extra dogs you have are rescues animal control may be more understanding. Do you have friends you can put some of the dog at for a few days.. until things calm down. I would be so afraid of that dog and the owners lack of control. To attack you little one through the fence in his yard is horrible. I think you could even have grounds for a law suit if you wanted to go that way. I am glad the baby is getting better.. and I have you all in my prayers that he heals and the whole situation works out. |
