AKC Registration Question I recently purchased a puppy. He was listed as AKC Registered. He wasn't though. Instead, they gave me a form to register him myself. I completed the form and then decided to go online and do it instead. The site was a little confusing. It listed a section for "Previous Owner" and I completed it but the information did not transfer back to the main page. I entered it again and it did not show up on the main page AGAIN so I decided that was the way their site worked and continued with the registration. There was a section for type of registration. When they sent me the papers, there was a box there and they had written the number 453 in it and outside and to the right of the box it said LIMITED. Online I put in the 453 and continued. I finished the registration and left the site. Today I got the official "papers" and it looks like it is a FULL registration. I went on the site and it said FULL registrations are purple and LIMITED registrations are orange. I have a purple one. Do I need to contact them to fix this? If so, WHO?? Is a full registration the same as an OPEN one that I see people speak of? My Lazzy is cute as a button and lovable and sweet and smart but he just isn't breedable (IMO) - he has a cotton coat and one floppy ear (not that there is anything wrong with that, I wouldn't care if he was bald). I am having him spayed when he is old enough. From what I read, dogs cost a lot more money when you get the open registration and I do not want to end up owing anyone any money. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! |
I wouldn't worry about it, the seller will always black out the # 's if it is to be limited in your case since you are getting him neutered anyways i can't see a problem |
I agree, since he's getting neutered anyways, there's nothing to worry about. |
OK. I won't worry about it then. Thanks guys! |
I think I would tell the seller about this, maybe she entered the information wrong. It doesn't matter since you are getting him fixed, but other people aren't as honest as you. Open registration dogs aren't necessarily more expensive. It really depends on the breeder. Really good breeder know that only some dogs should be bred, and they will hold certain puppies back, you really can't tell before the age of 6-9 months, and if someone is selling a dog with an open registration younger than that they are just a back yard breeder and in it for the money. Dogs sold with open registration by good breeders are usually sold with the stipulation that they will be shown first. Many people will probably try to get you to stud your puppy, don't do it, his personality will change! |

He is 17 weeks old and I want to have him spayed at the earliest available opportunity. When is that btw? I do not want him sprinkling all over the house. He has been 3 times to the vet for his cough but I haven't even bought up the neutering. I am trying to get this issue behind us first. Then the shots. THEN the spay. |

I would get it done in a few weeks before he starts to hike his leg and pee on everything |
For now it's Belly Bands to the rescue but when he isn't wearing one, he takes an occasional squat. He prefers carpet and refuses to pee on hardwood. He goes for the pee pad about 50% of the time (cloth ones, not paper) but sometimes only his front legs are on it. I still get really excited that he tried though...lol. |

That is really good though that he is trying :) mine miss occasionally but they try |
That's good to know. Maybe around the holidays will be a good time. I'll probably cry and be a general wreck. |

I do have an ex-pen that he sleeps in but he spends most of the day out and about. I haven't quite figured out how to catch him yet. He just stands still and looks all sweet and pees. He squats but you really can't tell much. I am getting wise on the sniffing around though and grab him and get him to the pad or the pen. I'm not mad at him. When he is fully trained, I'll get a new area rug if I need to. |
