I Died Today
 

You got tired of me and took me to the shelter. They were overcrowded and I drew an unlucky number. I am in a black plastic bag in a landfill now.
Some other puppy will get the barely used leash you left. My collar was dirty and too small, but the lady took it off before she sent me to the Rainbow Bridge.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't chewed your shoe? I didn't know what it was, but it was leather, and it was on the floor. I was just playing. You forgot to get puppy toys.

Would I still be at home if I had been housebroken? Rubbing my nose in what I did only made me ashamed that I had to go at all. There are books and obedience teachers that would have taught you how to teach me to go to the door.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't brought fleas into the house? Without anti-flea medicine, I couldn't get them off of me after you left me in the yard for days.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't barked? I was only saying, "I'm scared, I'm lonely, I'm here, I'm here! I want to be your best friend."

Would I still be at home if I had made you happy? Hitting me didn't make me learn how.

Would I still be at home if you had taken the time to care for me and to teach manners to me? You didn't pay attention to me after the first week or so, but I spent all my time waiting for you to love me.

I died today.

Every dog owner that doesn't dote on their baby should have to read this before breakfast, lunch and dinner the rest of their lives. Still wouldn't change some but I'll bet it would others.

:( I just don't understand how people can't love their pets unconditionally. I literally can't comprehend it. Even when Rory and Lane are acting rotten (who made them that way anyways :rolleyes:), I still feel like I have the sweetest girls in the whole world.

This is so sad, it should be shoved under the nsoe of every person considering getting a dog!

Very sad.:( I went over a year without a nearly fully potty trained pup who chewed everything under the sun & I could never imagine that being a "deal breaker". It was what I signed up for, the great & the bad. I wish people didn't think animals were disposable for any reason.:(

I hesitated to read this at work, because I knew it would make me cry,but I kept being drawn back to it. It just simply breaks my heart that so many will get a pet and then just consider it a throw away item, instead of a member of their family. I will never understand that mentality.:(

So sad and true. People should really think before taking on a pet if they will be able to keep it under any circumstance

I just did read this at work and am crying. like you all said everyone considering getting a pet needs to read this. they need to realize the committment they are going to be making.

That is so sad. It's also so sad that it happens over and over again to poor pets. I like the idea of posting this somewhere.

When I take a dog in my life it is a forever commitment no matter what/ I knew when I got my dogs what I was in for/ my dogs depend on me and I took that responsibility but what I get in return is priceless

I was scared to open that post BonBon! Such a sad sad post, cause it is too often true.

There has got to be something missing inside a whole lot of folks that can share their life or at least part of it with a dog or a cat, and not have a heart that gets filled with love for their pet.

Most of us here I think would never "get" a mindset/heartset like that.

Anyone who cant take care of their dog for any reason should read this before even thinking of taking their dog to a shelter.

I posted this on my facebook, and Craigslist here in my town-----I have already been red flagged and it pulled off craigslist. I guess i must have struck a nerve with someone. As sad as it might be, and/or offend people--i think everyone thats getting a new pet should read that. maybe it would make people ask themselves----Im a really ready for a pet?

As I was reading this, I looked down at my "bundle of joy" sleeping in my lap. Tears came to my eyes. I cannot imagine someone being that cold and unloving. My heart breaks for the animals who are treated this way. Pets can be your "best" friend in the world. They love unconditionally and would never leave you even in the worst case scenario.:(:(
