Finally got my yorkie....
 
For several months I have been wanting a yorkie and finally got one. Gus is 9 weeks old and weighs 1 pound 14 ounces. He has quite a personality and is as sweet as can be. I keep attempting to attach a picture....but I get this message "Invalid Post specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster" Could any one help?

I'm so glad you got your baby! Try clicking on the FAQ's and reading how to post pictures. There's a link in there for downloading Irfanview, which resizes your pics and it's easy to use. It changed everything for me! Good luck.

You only had to wait several months??? Lucky you!!!

I'd been wanting one since I first saw Joan Rivers' little Spike YEARS ago!! lol Hubby didn't want little 'girlie' dogs, though, so we got bigger ones. Then this spring he surprised me with Dublin, and then at the first of the month I got Widget!!

You should see him smoochin' up those little dogs now!!! He's totally gaga over them!!

Can't wait for the pics!

I'll take more pictures tongiht and post tomorrow. Also - I'm sure I will have lots and lots of questions to ask tomorrow about training!

Question - the hair on the top of Gus' head is really thin and gets really oily. Is this normal? Also, I was closely examining it and although the hair on the top of his head is black - it looks like the roots are white. Is THIS normal?

Sherry -- actually I've been waiting for over a year, but it's been several months since my husband finally caved and said I could get a yorkie. So then the hunt started for the perfect breeder and perfect puppy...
My husband is a 6'6" ex-football player who has a german shorthair pointer. But you should see him loving on Gus :aimeeyork (when he thinks I'm not looking that is! ;) )

I'm not the most experienced one to answer, and I don't know about the oily part, but the coloring is normal. Evidently they go through lots of changes until they get their final adult coat. It's neat watching them go through it!

about the hair, i think it's normal since he's a baby and still growing. My ginger's hair used to be very thin on top of her head but grew.. now she's a hairy monster! lol jk, but she did grow a lot of hair on top of her head :)

OOH, he is a cute LITTLE guy. Congrats.
Okay about the hair on his head. It could be a condition such as some sort of mite BUT it does not look like that. It appears to me that he is starting his adult coat and the black puppy hair is growing away from his scalp, making it look like he is going bald. Lots of new Yorkie owneDs ask the same questions.
If you would want to e-mail a pic to me, I would be happy to take a better look. Just PM me and let me know if you want me to do that..

HI! Congratulations on Gus! He is a cutie!
My Abbie has the same type hair, that is the silver coming through that will be the final color and I have heard people on here say that the coat can look a little oily even with frequent baths. Here are some pics of mine, you can see the black ends and silver roots:

I brushed his hair right before taking those pictures... why does it not look brushed? Is it his puppy hair? Or maybe the kind of brush I am using? What do you think?

Hi and Congrats on you new baby..I think all puppies look that way,I know mine does..she is 15 weeks and I brush her but she look like she has not been brushed ..lol ..It's a puppy thing.

He has the CUTEST face! I love how he has the gold over his eyes - looks like eyebrows in your pics. TOO CUTE!

The hair coloring you describe is very normal. Joey is the same. At 10 weeks, we thought he was balding on the top of his head because of the white. He wasn't. He currently (at almost 6 months) has a very light face and his back is turning light silver. No telling what color he'll end up...

Enjoy him. Especially enjoy all the little naps he probably likes to take in your lap. Soon, he'll be too busy for many naps!
