New puppy by the end of the year?!?
 

So I was talking to my mom and she mentioned something about if i keep my job then maybe I could get the girl yorkie ive been wanting....but first she said and get rid of ozzy. I said no I cant get rid of him, and I said why not just have 2 yorkies? She said I dont know...I said you gave sam til the end of the year to move out, what if by then I get everything together with ozzy and then maybe get my second yorkie, a baby girl and have them both....and she said as long as i take care of them then maybe by january i can get one!(:

I don't understand why your mom would tell you to get rid of Ozzy before getting a new puppy. As long as Ozzy is fixed they could be great together. I am glad your mom agreed. :) I could not give up on my female yorkie in order to get a new one to me that makes very little sense.

i think she just didnt like the fact of her, my dad, my sis, her 2 kids, my youngest nephews dad, and me and ozzy and another dog all in a 4 bedroom house. lol. But my nephews dad will be moving out in less then a month. and my sister and youngest nephew will probably be out by the end of the year....so hopefully right now i can find a good breeder and start looking and find on within a cheaper price range!(:

I have read a couple of your threads and I'm seeing that you and your family simply dispose of dogs for various reasons. I'm certain that if you get that female dog you want because "I just wanna spoil her!she would have so many pretty dresses and bow and harnesses and leashes because everything i see and everywhere i go everything is pink and girly and adorable!" then you'll probably get rid of Ozzy just like the rest of them.

So my suggestion to you is just dress Ozzy up in drag! He could be that cute girl you always wanted! I personally will purchase pretty dresses, bows, harnesses and leashes and send them to you.

I'm serious.

That would be so mean just to get rid of your boy to get a girl to play dress up. A puppy is a life choice not just all fun. It's a responsibility I agree if you want to play dress up drag your boy out don't just trade him in.

You have to be kidding if you would even think of getting rid of one dog to get another. Believe there should be no dogs in your household.

Please don't give up Ozzy. He has feelings, too, and he's not a throwaway or disposable little guy. He loves his family and I wouldn't get another dog until I could commit to the one I already have. Just my personal opinion for what it's worth.

Are you sure that as a student you can afford to take care of a second yorkie? Yorkies cost money to take care of properly. Their little bodies need a healthy diet (not some cheapo food like Kibbles 'N Bits). They need regular veterinary care which includes annual exams, vaccinations, blood work, dental cleanings, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative - and that's all just routine maintentance care that runs several hundred dollars a year per pup. It doesn't begin to cover the cost of a sick or injured pet, or the spay/neuter a new pup will need.

Once you make the commitment to adopt a pet it becomes YOUR responsibility for the rest of it's life. They are living creatures who deserve the very best care and lots of love, which does not include getting rid of them because they get sick or because you want to get another puppy. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but real pet ownership is hard, time consuming and expensive - when it's done right. If you aren't going to do it right, don't do it.

Ozzy is not an old pair of shoes that you don't want anymore. Just because you want a new dog, you don't get rid of the dog that you already have. I realize that you are a kid, but you should not have a pet until you are mature enough and financially responsible enough to properly care for one.

Kaji can so work a skirt and he honestly didn't care. I've only done it once, and it was because my roomie's dog was too fat for her cute school girl outfit, and she wanted to see a cute pup wear it. Kaji looked adorable!

I think wanting to add to your pack is a good long term goal to have. However, think it through. If you can be financially independently taking care of both dogs, without asking mom or dad for money, then do it. It's my long term goal too. :) By this time next year, I want to be in a place where I can financially and physically be in a place where I can have 2. I want 2 little boys running around my house, playing and making me laugh. :)

I think that the best for Ozzy and you is for you to purchase pet health insurance. Then look for a steady source of part time income; babysitting, working as a cashier etc.

Two dogs are a large responsibility. How will you care for them when you go off to university for example?

I know that you have not been shown the best example of pet ownership, but pets are a lifetime responsibility. This is something you willingly take on prior to owning a dog.

Focus on Ozzy right now; if you want to dress him up there are lots of ways to do so. There are pretty nifty boy clothes; and if you are set on the girley girl stuff, just dress him up in those clothes. Most of the time my Razz is referred to as a she anyhow. IDC he is just one gorgeous dog.

In terms of finding a "cheap" Yorkie there is no such thing. Just read the sick and emergency section ... this will open your eyes to their health concerns, the cost of same; and I'm not just talking in $$ but the emotional toil to see your beloved dog unwell.

I too dont understand why you would have to get rid of one dog for another. And yes yorkies are VERY expensive to "keep up"..Trust me I know..Please listen to the wonderful advice others have given before making your decision..

If you wanted a girl dog why did you buy a boy? I bought a girl because that was what I wanted and then I bought a boy but i didn't get rid of my girl. I had them spay/neutered also. Then I added another male and female also spayed/neutered.

Dogs are not disposable objects. You just don't give one up because you want another. My dogs are members of my family. They eat with me, vacation with me... etc. I would never think of giving either of mine up for any reason. I can't imagine anyone even thinking like this, I guess this is why alot of the rescues are full.

I have a little niece thats 12! She is dying for a pup but her parents said no. She came to me this past weekend to see if maybe I can talk them to say YES. So I said to her, Miranda, Tia Tanya (me) has 2 dogs. You can come over whenever you want, sleep over and play with them when you want. You don't need a dog right now. You have 2! lol

I didn't intend for my post to be so obnoxious. But I still do believe that dressing your boy up is a simple solution and I'm seriously offering my help.

My fear is that it seems you keep wanting something else. You must have gotten a male dog for a reason. What happens if you get a female dog next and then say "gosh, I really want a larger breed dog?".

I was just telling someone at church today that my girls didn't like to dress up, now that I read your post I bet Hobbes wouldn't care if I dressed him as a girl,( he is so easy and laid back) as long as I rubbed his belly.;)

I agree, I think she will too...A friend of mine just rescued 2 kittens..they are beautiful to no end...someone just dumped them like they where yesterdays trash...People like that make me sick to my stomach!!

OP....I think, you shouldn't get another yorkie, And I think you should take your boy to a Yorkie rescue, so he can find the love and commitment of a forever home...cause you don't have the love and life long commitment for any pet. I'm Sorry JMO.

Your post was not obnoxious in the least. IMO it is a better solution than getting a female dog, just so you can dress her up in frilly,girly things. I would dress Bogie in drag any day over dumping him because I wanted a girl:(

That's a tad harsh. The OP isn't the one giving up the pup, her mom is the one that made that suggestion. And she didn't buy a male, she accepted him as a rehome.

I do agree with Karen on this one. I think 2 dogs for a 15 year old is way too much responsibility. It's a lot more money, and a lot more time. School will be starting soon, and if she were to get her new little girl on a break, like Christmas, it will only be a few weeks. What about training a new little girl? Making sure she is eating? Has clean potty pads? etc.

I can see why the OP's mom would suggest to make room. I don't understand, or agree with that idea, but her house is crowded enough. If dressing a yorkie in cute girly clothes is the reason for wanting a girl, dress up your boy in girls clothes. Most people think my boy is a girl anyway, it wouldn't be a big leap for me. :p

Just wonder what will happen one day (hopefully not for years) she has children and doesn't get the boy/girl she wanted.

Just remember to remove any skirts prior to letting him outside to pee :D otherwise you'll have an icky mess to clean.

It's sad that your mom things pups are so disposable. Maybe you should wait until you move out and are financially fit enough to afford another yorkie before adding to your "pack".

You say you feed Ozzy Kibbles and Bits and it took you 8 months to get him to a vet after getting him. IMO there is no way you can afford or take care of a second dog, because you can't take care of the one you have.

On the other hand, why is everyone jumping on her because her mom told her to get rid of her dog? I don't see how she can be responsible for the things her mother says. She said she won't give up the dog like her mom asked, anyway.

I dont understand why everyone is being so RUDE for? We do not DISPOSE of our dogs, one of this was very sick and I was only 7 or 8 and my mom didnt want him to die while we had them then explain it to me. I have had ozzy since january and hes the best yorkie ever. I would never dream of getting rid of him, and my mom was only joking when she said that. If I got a girl I would love them both equally. That isnt the ONLY reason I want a girl. I want a girl because I have a boy and Ive heard so many great things about girl yorkies. I would never get rid of one just to get another. And when I said a cheap yorkie I didnt mean like under $300 like most people think, I meant around $1000 or less. And I am only 15, 16 in a few days, but that doesnt mean anything. I am a better yorkie mommy than many people that are twice or three times my age. If I got another yorkie and it was a girl they would both be spayed/neutered and I would never even think about breeding them because I am not a breeder! So I am just going to ignore all of your alls comments, the rude, think they know it all ones anyways! Oh and if I got a second yorkie, it wouldnt be until maybe next summer, when I can properly train her!

you don't dispose of dogs but you give up a sick dog for selfish reasons just because ur mom is too scared to explain the facts of life to her kids and you dump another dog because ur sister had a baby. that seems that you don't value as a family dog's lives you just get rid of them when it fits you better. it's terrible and you shouldn't get another dog until you learn to keep the one you have for it's entire life.
