I feel like giving up on finding a puppy!
 
A few weeks ago, I found an awesome breeder in my area. She had an adorable little girl. I fell in love. I put my deposit down and everything. Well she took her to the vet today and it turns out, the puppy has bad knees. The breeder explain to me in a few years, the puppy might need knee surgery. I could tell in her voice, she was hesitant about selling her with bad knees. :(

Now Im back to square one. I feel like I wanna cry my eyes out.

I'm sorry. It's hard when you feel like you found the one and then you need to back away. I hope you find a yorkie that is meant to be yours. Hugs.

Sorry to hear this, but it is better to know now than find out later. At least the breeder was honest.

Did the breeder tell you what grade of LP the puppy had? If it was not high then the puppy could be ok and not need surgey. I am sorry this happened. Try not to feel like giving up. Their is the right yorkie puppy waiting for you.

Your post sounds sad and full of frustration,I am so sorry. Dont give up,maybe step back and take a break from looking.

No she didnt tell me. She just said she would probably need surgery in a few years.

Luxating patella is so common in Yorkies. Some never need surgery. Puppies knees could probably tighten a bit (or get worse). Surgery for LP isn't the worst thing in the world.

If you're looking for a totally healthy pup, I'm sure one will come along in time.

Is your heart set on a young puppy or would you consider a rescue? An older breeder female?

I've found that the few great Yorkie breeders tend to have waiting lists. Have you gotten your name on any? Filled out apps?

I would like to get a puppy. Around 12-16 weeks. I know I can take a chance and still get her. I just dont wanna have her and 2 years down the road; she'll need surgery. I have a good job, but I dont think I'd be able to pay thousands in vet bills. Thats another reason I dont wanna get a rescue.

my girl is a rescue. i got her at 1 year old. and most are vet checked and have all there shots, and spayed or nuetered. there are alot of babies that are in need of a home. not to mention older dogs are easier to train than a puppy. and rember there are no gaurentees on any pet you get. There will always be some expenses at some point in there life. i understand you may want a puppy--but please dont rule out a rescue---you would be saving a life...... and it may be one of the best choices in your life you ever made. i know it was for me, and many others out there.;)

Rhett and Scarlett are both rescues that came to me as puppies. Both have perfect knees and hips. Not all dogs end up in rescues because of health problems.

If your heart is truly set on this particular dog, then you can begin setting aside money now for the possibility of surgery later. It may become necessary and then again it may not ever be needed.

It's does sound like you are on the right track with the breeder since she has been honest with you about the pups knees.

Keep at it girly! I've been looking for 6 months for that perfect baby. It takes time to find your doggie soulmate but it is so worth it in the end :)

If they worsen, they would be thousands to fix.

Whatever pup you end up with, please consider getting insurance. Thousands of dollars do need to be available for non-routine vetting.

Pups don't always end up in rescue over medical issues. We just rescued a pup. He has a couple minor issues, but should be fine. His insurance covers pre-existing issues as long as there were no symptoms before the waiting period is up, etc. So even if you get an unhealthy dog that seemed healthy at the time of purchase, there is still hope that things will be covered.

Your perfect pup will come along.

I plan on getting insurance, but I didnt think the insurance covered surgeries like LP.

Depends on the insurance and the waiting period. None will cover it this time because it is already diagnosed. If pup had been with you for 6 months with no symptoms and then it came up (and vet didn't diagnose it yet), then most companies would pay.

im sorry to hear this but i know that u will find the right yorkie for u :) i know this because ive been searching for 2 years for my little one
