Take the Pledge! Don't shop at stores that sell puppies! Nopetstorepuppies.com | A campaign by the ASPCA I know some of you have already seen the ASPCA ad with Larry the "dog". Take the pledge to not shop at any store that sell puppies, and pass it along! Also after you pledge, you can add in any stores you know that sells dogs that may not yet be on the ASPCA list yet. These people need to be stopped! Don't support stores that support puppymills! |
Great idea, there's no reason for people to have to shop at stores that sell puppies, I know some people don't think a pet store should sell any animal, like fish or birds, but I haven't read enough to see why that's wrong. We bought fish at a pet store, and they are very happy in our pond now. I personally don't like to see caged birds, it's just goes against my nature, but I know lots of people enjoy them as pets. Anyway, I'm jabbering, I took the pledge. |
Took the pledge!!!! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: |
I took the pledge:) |
I took the pledge! |
I took the pledge begrudgingly. I love our Uncle bills they sell neat big koi in the summer so I love to get my fish there but from now on Ill buy them from the pond store. |
I signed and passed on the link on my FB page. |
Did it!!! |
I haven't bought anything or even gone in a petshop that sells dogs in over 10 years. Years ago I got to the point where I could not see those precious dogs' faces and then walk out, knowing they had only a 50/50 chance, if that, of getting a decent home and life. As far as spending my money there, I had stopped doing that long before I quit stopping in just to see the dogs. I took the pledge and hope we all do it! Those people should be drummed out of business as they have no feeling at all for the well being of the little sweethearts they sell to whoever walks in the door. Great thread! |
I must already be shopping in the right places. I cannt remember the last time I saw a puppy for sale in a petstore. There is a rescue that frequents our area petstores, usually with only 2 or 3 dogs for adoption at a time. |
I took the pledge!! |
I refuse to go into a store that has puppies. My heart would break. :( |
I took the pledge. The one that is on there Man's Best Friend in the town I live in is horrible. My sister and I went in there a few months back when we were in the mall. The dogs were in glass enclosed cages with a tiny air vent. We complained to the staff that some of the dogs looked like they were overheated and not getting enough air. She said oh we trade them out every so often to the open enclosure. This was a pen where anyone can manhandle them. I called the mall and complained and they called back and said they passed on my concern to the store and they assured them they were all fine. I also talked to the shelter I volunteer at and asked about a humane investigation and she said it is almost impossible to close them down because the laws are so lenient. Just sickens me. I will never buy from a store that sells dogs. |

I took the pledge. This is a dog-lovin town and I have not yet seen any stores that sell puppies. Thank goodness. I probably just offended some of my friends on FB. Both of her dogs came from a pet store. And she is a smart and educated woman. I know she knows where those dogs come from. |
I took the pledge also. I don't believe there's a store here that sells pups, or anything except birds, fish & reptiles, unless they're having an adopt-a-thon. |
well don't just jump on any band wagon...find out if it's a store that sells puppy mill dogs - then don't shop there. |
I took the pledge and will encourage others to do so as well. |

You may come out with a very healthy pup, bird, rabbit or fish, but are the parents hidden away and living in horrendous conditions,as with puppy farm pups? :( |
I am going to take the pledge. Thankfully, there are no stores here anymore that sell puppies. We had a PetLand, but it went out of business :D Even when they were here I only went there to hold the puppies because I felt guilty that they were locked in cages. |
I've taken the pledge and also posted the link onto www.puppylovecampaigns.org which is a group of people here in the Uk who are dedicated to exposing and trying to end puppy farms. They are very passionate about the work they do, and protests are held regularly outside stores selling puppy farm puppies. |
Done, and done ! I took the pledge and shared this on facebook so my friends could do the same ! I once went into a petstore in Baltimore who sold puppies, oh my god my heart broke when I saw those little pups, maybe 6-8 weeks old, with no food, water in little bottles made for rabbits, with nothing to lie on except a little peace of a blanket whitch wasnt big enough ! They had eye infections and were not in good condition some of them, poor guys !! Thank god that selling dogs and cats is banned here in Iceland where I live, only pets that are legal to sell in petstores here are hamsters, gerbils, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, degus, parrots, fishes, frogs and newts as I can remember, no cats dogs or other bigger animals. |
Okay just pledged both my bf and I!! :p I added it to my fb and added a petstore onto the list! It makes me so sad seeing those puppies in there!! UGH!!! I'd like to see the owners behind glass cage all day and night just so someone can make a profit of them. |

Apparently many people think that. check out this notice posted on the petian site (they are a "grooming salon" that SELLS puppies! :thumbdown) "Dear Customers We would like to inform you that several new policies have been made. The reason for us to make these new policies and enforce it was due to the fact that many people have a misconception that our store is like a petting zoo. If you are interested in the puppy and true buyer, you would definitely make an appointment to see it again next time right? · In order to touch the puppies, you must make an appointment ahead of time. · You may not touch more than 3 different puppies at once. · You can not touch the puppies more than 2 times in total, this means per family, two appointments are allowed. · Hands will be sanitized before and after handling the puppy Puppies will not be sold to families with children under the ages of 5 due to health risk for the puppy and children." The underlined I'm surprised they actually post this. I wonder if they actually follow their own guidelines. I'm sure anyone with money who comes in they'll sell a dog to. I read a review on yelp that a girl who lives at home, walked in and put a deposit on a puppy, then went home, told her parents who said she can't get it. Of course they said, oh you can put that deposit towards any other puppy later. |

Pass The Word, We Can Make a Difference! Took the pledge and posted to my FB page. I have NEVER shopped at a store that sells live dogs/cats. Not by choice really, I am proud to say they aren't readily available in my city. |
