Ok so I work for PETsMART and Yesterday we were busy non-stop and I had a man come through my line with a beautiful Rottie sweet as can be too!!! well the guy had a choke collor on him with those spikes I believe or it may have just been a regular choke collor but anyway... He was telling his baby to sit and it wasn't really listening because there were so many other things going on around him. So this man lifts his leg behind the dog and gives it a little boot in the butt, the dog still doesn't comply so he does this agian. He probably did this three times. By this time in the back of my mind I'm going "Dude, you shouldn't even own such a beautiful dog. The poor baby!!!" I even said underneath my breat(loud enough for the other cashier and maybe even him. He didn't say anything) "Poor dog!" He looked up and I gave him a look like "what do you think you're doing?!" I could have asked him to Leave the store because we do NOT tolerate people hurting their dogs or any pet for that matter on the stores property, but I just hurried and helped him the best I could and He left but he kept pulling on the leash and repeatdly telling the dog to sit. Can't a dog just be a d@!*& dog?!!! He was distracted! He wasn't trying to run off or anything. Just was standing there looking around!!! What's wrong with that??? Even the lady behind me remarked on him and I said to her "Poor baby." I may have said something else but I don't remember. What do you all think I should have done? did I do the right thing but Just helping him the fastest way possible or should I have asked him to leave???? I felt like crying for the poor dog

i would have just explained to him that in a busy situation like that was not the time to train the poor thing and that the dog was being good just standing there.
some people sure dont have the "I know how bad you feel" attitude towards their pets. In the position you work, it is hard to say anything unless they are really beating the dog. you complain to him about his treatment of the dog, then he complains to manager (about you) for your treatment of him. sounds like that man needs obedience training him self.

I think you did the right thing. He may have taken it out on the dog if you said anything to him! People?? like that shouldn't be allowed to have animals.

Yeah! that was a very smart customer, not!. He is totally a jerk and disrespectful to all the pet lovers who feel ofended by this behavior in a store that should be all about the animals and fun for them.

I understand where you're coming from, but The look on the dogs face said it all. It wasen't like a little tap on the butt with your shoe, it was a small forceful kick. and it was done repeatedly. In my book that would be considered abuse, and it should have not been permitted. It made not only him look like an a$$ but it also embarrassed the dog and infuriated customers who had witnessed it. I'm sure that had he said anything to my manager, that whoever had witnessed it would vouch that what I did, they themselves too would have done. But with the store being as busy as it was I chose to not say anything to him in hopes I wouldn't need to wait on him agian. This being said, it may make me sound snooty(which I am certainly not) but I don't know how much longer I would have been able to keep my cool had he actually hit or done any further abuse to the poor thing. It makes me wonder how they treat their loved ones if they treat their pets that way and in public.

Unfortunately, there are still an awful of trainers out there that teach this is the right way to do it!

Sad, but true....
