*I* am not putting a small dog in cargo! This makes me sick, but what's done is done and I was just looking for some advice to give her if she needs it. She was actually referred to this website by a legal assistant who takes her dog into work. The puppy is being shipped American airlines cargo. Quote:

Here is a case of more money than sense. 1.3 lbs at 3mths old is not tracking to be 2lbs fully grown. I'd bet a dollar on that. What I will bet the bank on is this pup is going to be stressed after "only" a 40 minute flight, and she better go straight from the airport to a vet's office to get this dog assessed; and oh yes plan on taking off a couple of days from her high price work to actually care for this dog, until it is stable. That is at this point the only valuable suggestion you can offer this purchaser ...take the pup to the vet right away, stay home with him and make sure he is well; arrange for a babysitter until he is old enough to go out in public. Oh and by the way that is 40 minutes in the air; do you know how much earlier they load the pups on the plane, plus how long the pup will be in a cargo hold until off loaded??? I feel so very very sorry for this pup on a number of fronts. |
As an atty, has she read all of the things that are not covered in the buyer's contract? |

Not sure if someone is pulling on legs or what is going on, but here is the link to AA's policy on shipping animals: https://www.aacargo.com/shipping/animals.jhtml#temp Specifically states: Shipping Animals in Temperatures Above 85 Degrees Fahrenheit Warm-blooded animals (including birds) will not be accepted for transport if the actual or forecasted temperature exceeds 85 degrees Fahrenheit at any city on the routing. It is hot as hell here in Texas....and rarely is it forecast lately to be below 85. Now, I suppose it is possible for an early morning flight...but I don't know. I think the lowest temp I have seen is in the high 70s. To me it is a ridiculous situtation and if AA allows it, shameful imo. |
Dallas 10 day forecast...unbelievable. I guess because the forecast is for a low of 80 they will probably allow this. The other question is this: What kind of breeder would sell a pup to someone sight unseen AND stick a young puppy on a plane like this? Certainly not one I would do business with. 10 Day Weather Forecast for Dallas - weather.com |
When I take the subway I have to put coco in a carrier but i dont because i dont want coco to feel dizzy so i carry her (luckily no one has said anything but this mean lady and i said why dont u put ur baby in ur bag and that was the end of it :P) So if a yorkie can get dizzy in a carrier on the subway i can't imagine what a tiny puppy would do in a cargo! Like someone mentioend if shes a partner at a spiffy firm why doesn't she hire someone to bring the dog back in the cabin? if its domestic and is 40 mins away, it can't be that expensive... plus she gets paid well so this would just be a small change for her. and lastly, i checked out this dude's page and i think its hilarious he has a back to school sale on the dogs... seriously, these dogs are living breathing beings and he's treating it like an object. major red flags... however that being said, I understand the type of person ur friend is.... they have the money and they want what they want NOW! I really hope she is ready to face the consequences of taking care of this dog... good luck to her and the pup. |
I would caution OP that her boss may very well see these posts. Here she will get a lot of outrage, because we Know about so called tea cup puppies and unscrupulous breeders. I am sad that so many people are still buying puppies bred in puppy mills. It doesn't do any good (except allow us to vent) to shout at the OP. She tried to give her boss good advice, and now she is expressing concern about the coming puppy. I am glad anevarez came here. We may be able to help if problems come up for this tiny baby. Keep us updated. |

No one is shouting at anyone. Valid points are being made in a valuable discussion about this breeder and his tactics yet again. He has been mentioned many times on YT. Does a lot of good imho to keep letting people know about the red flags with this breeder. No one has a problem with anevarez...as for helping the puppy, I doubt she is going to be in a position to do much. Clearly her friend does not listen to her. |

I have no idea. At this point she has made it clear that I have crossed the line and have pissed her off. I don't know if she cares, in her mind her puppy is a fashion accessory. I have known Megan since we were in elementary school and she has always had everything handed to her. This will be no different. This guy told her he was the best, he could get her a small yorkie at a decent price. I do not feel sorry for her, I feel sorry for this puppy. She was told she needed to give the puppy pancake syrup as soon as she got to the airport. Does that sound normal? Quote:

oh I know.. I just hope that no one here thinks I am as shallow as my friend. She is not a super close friend, we were best friends until high school and then she went off to college and we only saw each other maybe once or twice a year. She is now in San Antonio and I am about 3 hours south of that. However, she did see my Chloe last year and she mentioned how she wanted one of those dogs... exactly her words. A couple of days ago she came over and she saw Chloe again and let me know that she was talking to someone at yorkiepup.com. I was pretty clueless, but she did tell me that she wanted a small dog and that Chloe was way too big when I offered my breeders info. Chloe is 4lbs. I can honestly say my breeder would never have sold a puppy to her. I was pretty hurt, but oh well, Megan has always been shallow and seems to be lacking a filter between her brain and her mouth. Now today she calls and says she has made arrangements and paid for the puppy... and what does she need to do. I have brought several concerns to her attention and she has gotten pretty upset. I think I will leave it at my last comment and hope that she will figure it out if her puppy needs emergency help. Thank you all for your help. And again, PLEASE don't think I am as shallow as my friend. Thank you! Quote:

You have been a good friend to her by telling her the truth! :) |

Sigh.. this just makes me sick. One would think having such an education she would have a brain. But many times book sense doesn't mean common sense, and she's obviously lacking common sense all together. OP you tried your best to inform your friend. All you can do. Let's just pray this poor baby makes it. Poor thing when from hell right into another fire, literally. |

I agree, Let's all just hope this little puppy makes it. It is all anyone can do. You did good OP for trying to inform her, but some people are just a bit hardheaded :( |
OP, I think that you are a good friend and really are concerned for this tiny puppy. Sadly your friend, Megan will no doubt come crying to you if this little baby is unwell and costs her huge vet bills. I hope the puppy will make it safely to the airport but even that is up in the air. Megan may be in for a whole lot of heartache. BUt it might teach her a lesson. You did write that your friend was mad at you when you talked to her about this . SHe does not want to listen. Your friend has a whole lot of education, & money but does not care to learn the facts . I really do not think she has any idea what she is getting into. :( As for you thinking that your shallow too, in no way does that ever come accross in your posts. |
I feel so sorry for this pup. :( OP, you have done all you can and I applaud you for trying to get through to your selfish friend. Hopefully your friend will turn to you when this poor baby shows up sick, which sounds inevitable, and you will be able to offer her some guidance. Please keep us posted. |
Heck, for what it cost to ship the dog, I would have picked it up and driven it to her..... But I also would never buy a dog sight unseen from someone that had bad reviews. The breeder I'm looking at is highly recommended! And I'll drive to her location and pick up the baby myself! |

The reason that she was told to give pancake syrup it to bring the glucose levels up after the flight. Personally, I believe that Nutical is a better choice for this but *I* do not have any experience with a tiny puppy and hypoglycemia. TOMLYN NUTRI CAL PUPPY 4.25OZ | All Pet Outlet What I do know is that your friend had better make sure she does not leave this 1.2 lb puppy alone until is gets bigger. The tiny little ones like this need to be tended to like a baby all the time and cannot be left for more than a few hours at a time. I don't have a lot of time to search but this is the first article that I found: Puppy Hypoglycemia: Low Blood Sugar If your friend does not know what to watch for and know what actions to take this is very dangerous for the puppy. There are plenty of stories on YT about hypoglycemia and of puppies that have even died. :( Is your friend still speaking to you? I'd try to keep the communication open for the sake of this puppy. I am very worried........... |
Does anyone know if this little pup made it alive or not? I really feel sorry for the pup. The human has a choice in her actions. The puppy doesn't. This is not directed at the OP. I think we're all just really concerned about the welfare of the dog. |
Supposedly (according to her FB) the puppy who she calls sebastian has arrived and is as cute as can be. She has pics of him and he looks itty bitty. That is all I know as she stopped responding to my texts yesterday. |
I'm sure if the puppy takes a turn for the worse, you will be the first person she will come crying to. I hope the puppy is healthy though. |
I'm sure she will. She has never had a small dog so I worry. I did text her to let her know she could contact me with any questions or Concerns. |

WooHoo roadtrip!! I just can not imagine putting a puppy on a plane unless it was in someones arms. How is it right to put them in cargo? Like they are just luggage. I am watching Mina sleep and the thought of her being in a "box" like a hat and shipped in an unairconditioned area makes me want to cry. I made a trip from FtW to SanAntonio many years ago to pick up a pom puppy. Half the fun was the anticipation of getting there and spending the rest of the day with each other in the car. Somebody else drove for me so I could just take care of the puppy. It isn't about the destination and acquisition, its about the journey and the developement of a new relationship with a new friend. Oh ya and to the OP,Your baby sounds very sweet and you seem like someone that cares. I am sorry that you are stuck in the middle with a friend whos common sense isnt so common. Be sure to come back and spend time with us here at YT. Lots of knowledge to be found from alot of wise and passionate people. |
There's no way I would hand over $1200 - $2000 for a dog, sight unseen, to a person or company over the internet. That site could be gone tomorrow, and you either don't get the dog or maybe the dog is sick or dies. Probably comes from a sickening puppy mill. When we were talking about getting a puppy, I looked on the internet to find breeders, and came across several of those types of websites. You call a 1-888 number or something and deal with a "broker" in Florida. No thanks. I'm really happy that we got to see Ozzy, pick him up, see his personality, could see and observe his parents, and talk with the breeders. We know where they live, and have the phone number and email address if we have any questions. We fell in love with Ozzy not only because he's cute, but because of his personality and those of his mom and dad. I'm so so glad we went the route we did. |
I sure hope this little guy does ok. |
Poor thing, hopefully his health will come first instead of this woman's stupid pride. |
