| getting a puppy to sit still for a topknot Hi, My puppy, Coco, is 4 1/2 months old. While her hair is really not completely long enough for a topknot, her 'bangs' are pretty long and need to be 'controlled'. I had a Yorkie for 15 yrs. and had a topknot in her hair every single day. However, I do not remember how I 'trained' her to stay still long enough to let me fix her topknot. I have the tiny elastics, but, she just won't stay still. Does anyone have any secrets or tricks to help get her to sit still?? Thanks in advance for your advice. Pam |

| I've always been very lucky with our little Lily in that she loves getting brushed and so sits well for her top knot to go in, however i find when i am having bother with her sitting still i give her a wee treat or teething chew and she sits and chews that while i pamper her, but probaby the best advice is keep at it and eventually they get used to it although im sure there are many Yorkies who hate wearing top knots and never get used to it good luck yvonne xx

| Teach your pup "down" and then teach her to rest her chin on a little pillow. Choose a relaxing time of day to work, when she is drained of energy. Work on this daily and it will become routine. Maintain a calm, confident demeanor. Be patient, but assertive. Speak to her in a soothing, praising voice when she is still. Once the topknot is in, give her a treat and praise her some more. I started by associating grooming with walks. The boys know they have to have their hair done before they can go out for a walk, their favorite activity. Hope this helps, and good luck.
