| New to the site, proud new owner Hi, after waiting and looking for the right puppy we brought home our 12 week old baby on the 29th. She is beautiful and weighs 2lbs 3oz. We are having issues with her eating. We have tried her breeders kibble, Royal Canine, and Nutro Kibble with little success. It is like she eats everything once but refuses it the next time. We have tried canned also. I don't want a picky eater but she does need to eat something, any suggestions? I have had yorkies before as well as other breeds and have never had a puppy be so picky. Where is the line between making them a picky eater and keeping them healthy? |

| Yorkies are very self willed little dogs..they will try and be boss...and you will "work" for them... Changing food makes them more picky...select a quality food and feed 3 times a day...if she skips a meal or two it will not hurt her..just when you think they are going to starve, they eat...and a 2 pounder realy does not need much food at once to be full... I have two, 3 pound adults and they eat one a day well..and nibble at the second meal. I would give her Nutra-cal for good measure. Mine take IN vitamin suppliment..used it for 30 yrs...rarely have a sick Yorkie. |

| Welcome and congratulations. Good luck on the eating thing. For months, Murfee sat in my lap and I fed him piece by piece.

| Welcome to YT! Congratulations on your new furbaby. I fortunately don't have a picky eater, I worry that she is eating too much. She is 5 months old today and hopefully now, we have found a common ground between too much and not enough.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congrats on your new precious baby. I don't have feeding advice for a picky eater. My Jada doesn't turn her nose up at very much. I have to watch every bite as she tends to pork up very easily. Good luck

| Thanks, It is hard not to be over the top over this baby, she is our dream girl. Our other Yorkie died at fifteen in January and left a whole in our hearts. We tried hard to go with the a good breeder, did all the right things and now I find myself worried sick she isn't eating right. I so appreciate your kind words....most everyone else is so sick of hearing PUPPY. |

| Abba is 13 weeks old weighs 2 lbs 3 oz. He nibbles the dry kibble off and on. which I leave down. At real meal times I mix a tablespoon of moist kibble and a table spoon of Gerber Baby food meat. I feed him this in his crate. What he doesn't eat in 15 min.s is picked up. I only fed him Nutra-cal (twice) that first day because he was stressed and did not eat any food. I do not change the brand of kibble. He was eatting it fine in 3 days. Good Luck |

| Welcome to YT! So sorry to hear that you recently lost your furbaby. Sounds like you have a new special friend though to help start filling that hole in your heart. I wish you all the best with this new one. I know how nerve racking everything can be. Can't wait to see pictures! What's her name?

| Her name is Gabryella (Gabby). Thanks to all for the advise on feeding! Sent my husband for Gerber Baby Food Meat. I did try to download a picture, didn't work so I will try again. Getting her to hold still long enough to take a picture is interesting. |

| Welcome! My lil girl is 5months old, she gets Wellness,it doesn't take much, mixed with about a tablespoon full of wet food,in the morning. I have tried sprinkling parm cheese (just a tiny bit) on her food in the morning and after a while she didnt like that either. Right now I mix a few pieces of dried Gerbers baby apple with it in the morning, she gets a couple of baby carrot sticks in the afternoon ( I usually quater these length wise) and in the evening she gets kibble and wet food again. There is almost always kibble in a bowl but I have to make sure that my poodles dont eat it because it makes them sick. There are several people with great ideas on this forum. I had the same problem with Mina not eating and was able to read about some really good ideas. Good look!! |
