Middle age baby replacement...ok, I can live with that one. My last one is leaving the nest in 2 weeks!!!! He is getting married!!! I'm sad I suppose, but it is time. So...it will be hubby, me and my furbaby, middle age baby replacement. We are turning our son's room into a sports room man cave with a bed for Copper...baseball themed bed, hubby's idea. :D Can't wait! |
Teddie is my baby. He's bonded strongest with me, follows me everywhere, and I do everything for him. I'd say that is as close to a baby as you can get. My kids are 19 and 16 and don't need me as much as they used to, so...Teddie gets that extra attention that I would otherwise shell out on the kids. Nothing wrong with that. LOL |
I got Gypsy after dtr got married. Though the couple was living with us at the time. She filled a hole in my heart. Dh says sometimes I love them more than him. He also wanted no dogs in the house. LOL we had our first dog when we had been married 2 wks. I now have 4 small dogs. I keep telling dtr they are my grandkid replacements. It is her fault I have so many! if she and boyfriend (she is divorced from 1st hubby thank goodness ) would give me grandkids I would quit adding new dogs. She keeps giving that line about plenty of time. She will be 25 this year. Did I mention I am ready for grandkids? |
Sammy is my baby!! My oldest son laughs that I have more pictures of Sammy on my phone, plus pictures of my best friend's dogs on the phone, than I do of him and his brother. And it's true too!!!! Oh well, what can I say.:) |

OMG... And I thought I was the only one !! Where do I sign up for this wonderful social group.... I am a stay at home wife and mother and one of the biggest benefits of having my fur-babies is companionship. I Love them hairy little son-of-a guns to Death as I do my husband and kids. But the love and affection that they give me is unconditional. They provide me with so much love and affection who wouldn't love them like one of the family (a child...) per say. And yes, I would have to say...I too got at least two of my fur kids during a "Honey I want another Baby" disagreement. Hmm ...FOur fur and two skin kids later we now have a family of eight ....... ( :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork + :boy_hug::girl_hug: = 8 is Enough) for now! I think my hormones are in check at the moment and I have NO desire what so ever to have another child or addition to the family. Our newest is just under two. |

I think our babies come into our lives when we need them the most. Kaji came into my life when I was feeling very unloved. Guess who's feeling the love now! :D :D |
I'm only almost 30 so not midlife yet (I hope) but my yorkies are for sure my only babies. Nothing against people that have skin kids but it's always seemed like such hard work to me, you give so much of yourself to them and they usually hate you up until the time they are old enough to leave. I dunno, I like being able to leave the kids home alone and going to the movies or putting them in thier kennels for a time out- you cant do that with real babies. Plus they will always love me, no teenage angst years for me! My mom even calls them her "grandpuppies" and shows everyone thier picturers. Boyfriend knows the puppies come first, he always jokes that he is #12 in the house......what the other 10 things ahead of him are I dunno, but yorkies are for sure #1 |
I told my 14 y.o. tonight about this thread & how everyone complains we love our dogs so much...she said "yeah, you do!" I told her that Princess doesn't require a hefty allowance, rides every where, a cell phone, on & on....she said "yeah...that's true".;) I think I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can show her next time she complains about having to stop at the pet store.:p |
Well, I got Shadow after my 17 yr old cat died and my 3 yr old grandson (that I was taking care of 5 days a week) moved to Norch Carolina. Shadow helped me get through it all and gave me someone to take care of again. My husband and adult son thinks she's spoiled rotten, but they don't let a day go by without cuddling and talking babytalk to her. Go figure! Does she come first? I would have to say it's a tie. |
I do not have kids but fall into the age group. I think it's something Yorkies bring out in people, because I sure wasn't like this with my last dog, they have more character and personality than any other dogs I've encountered. But I think your men folks called it correctly. |

Guess I'm in this club as well, my Gizmo is almost 5 yrs old and I got him in my late 40's, I'm 51 now. Hubby and I have been married going on 19 yrs and he of course along with the rest of the family always point out that Gizmo comes first not only in my home but in my life. Hubby can get his own dam dinner....Gizmo depends on me to get his dinner...lol I mean come on its just the correct order of things and besides my baby give me more attention than any human, so really I'm just following his lead....right! I could see if making our fur-babies come first caused some sort of harm...as a matter of fact these little guys in my opinion were put here on this earth to bring out the best in people, because that is exactly what my baby does in my case. I have never had children nor ever wanted any, Gizmo fills my life with joy, peace and happiness and he has made me a better person...so the family needs to get over it. I still take very good care of the hubby....it just happens to be ''AFTER'' I take care of Gizmo......lmao....:biggrin::biggrin: |
