i had my 2 female chihuahuas for over 2 years. they are sisters from the same litter. then i adopted Peyton from a girlfreind of mine who was not well. Peyton was around 2 years old also. My chihuahuas are very good natured dogs and they know i love them all, so there is no jeolousy. they accepted Peyton and they all get along really well. :) |
I had and will have again shortly 3 females. There is an alpha female for sure and the others soon respect that and they all love eachother . I know its sounds too perfect but it is! LOL Get another female if your heart so desires I say!! |
I had three females all within a year of each other. They were all babies when we got them. They were all very close and didn't have trouble getting along. Our little one, Gracie, was a complete terror and at times my other two got upset with her. It was minor sibling rivalry, and I don't believe it was because of her sex. She was also the sweetest little dog ever, and they loved her. All of my girls were spayed when they were young. My girls readily accepted each other once each of them became a part of our family. Two females are wonderful, three divine. |
I have 3 females that all get along very well. First came Maddie and when she was 2, I got Libby. Then a few years later came Faith. It took a couple days of having an attitude before accepting the new one, but once they did, all was well. I'm so thankful mine all get along. I know someone with a female that fights with her other two, but I also know many more with more than one female that get along well. Best wishes to you! |
I have 7 girls, 5 are yorkies and 2 are yorkiepoos. They all get along great. We've never had a fight with them. They are very loving with one another. However they are all pretty much related to one another so I don't know if that makes a difference. Oh and they are all different ages. I'm not even sure which one would be considered the alpha, they are all so laid back. I would say though that my small male (the smallest dog, lol) is alpha or tries to be. I also have 3 boys and they fight all the time. I have to keep them all separate. So I have a lot more trouble with the boys than I ever do with my girls. I think if you have 2 spayed females you will be just fine. |
I think in general male/female combos give you the best chance of them getting along really well. However, that doesn't mean that 2 females wont get along or that all male/female combos will work. In the end though- you get another dog for YOU, not your dog- so you should get the gender of dog you are most comfortable with. In the end when you add a new dog to the home, you make a lifelong commitment to that dog- that means working through any problems that arise- that may mean keeping your dogs separate if they don't get along and spending individual time with them. So really, you should get the dog that works best for you and then take every precaution to make sure it works our between all the dogs in the house. |
